Title: BPH/prostatitis
Post by: spiro on October 30, 2018, 04:26:53 PM
I posted this over on the AAS forum but it's so dead. I figured this could happen even without using anything it happens with age. I need some opionons.

For those who have dealt with prostate issues how do you know the difference. I started having the urge to piss more and I feel swollen. I went to the doctor they did urine and blood test, no finger test it was GP. My PSA came back .72 pretty low. I was prescribed antibiotics. It's been two weeks doesn't feel like it's improving. I feel tired and down bad mood lethargic. My urine showed some extra white blood cells but no clear sign of infection.

I probably had this coming long high test blasts with no AI lots of masteron etc. It came on so quick though that's why I'm not sure what it is. And it actually started once I started to cruise. I'm being refferd to a urologist.

I'm about to turn 35 been using on and off for awhile.

No medical expert here but  you possibly have an enlarged postrate but at 35 I hear it's not too common.

I play Poker with doctors, lawyers, and thieves frequently so I'll ask a doc what medical "stuff" treats enlarged prostates other than surgery.

One doc recently mentioned "ultra sound" and a drug that reduces postrate size but I wasn't interested at the time, so I'll ask and pay attention next poker sesson.

BUT ... Eventually some doc is gonna have to stick his finger up you ass .... and it could be much worse if he has to stick a tube where no tube should ever enter.

But don't let me scare ya .... Just yet!

Google 'Enlarged postrate" and you'll find numerous   suggestions regarding clearing and avoidance, but it's best to follow your doc's advice and get it taken care of ASAP.

MARTY, Give me some time (like tomorrow) and I'll provide some legit answers!

I think that it is 50% of US males over 50 years of age who  suffer from enlarged prostate. And like 90% for those over 60.

But I gotta check to see if those stats are stil reliable.

Never the less ... Enlarged prostate problems are very common and there are many Prostate Supplement scams happening today.

But you mentioned Saw Palmeto (?? Spelling} which is siupposedly one of the most reliable ingredients for postate treatment on the market.

Pay attention because one day in the future you will MOST LIKELY have an enarged postate ... like it or not!

Hope not though!

No doctor here.  PSA is a test for cancer. You can have an enlarged prostate with a negative PSA test. Quit steroids and see a urologist. An enlarged prostate is something that hits a lot of steroid users. Tell the urologist everything about what you take. Then take his advice.

Anything over 4.0 is bad.

The PSA test is part of an array of diagnostic tools to determine what’s going on with the prostate.  I knew a fellow cyclist whose PSA was regularly in the 7-8 range, but he had no prostate issues.

An increase in the PSA over time is a potential cause for further investigation.

Just tell him the truth.  Tell him exactly what you are doing.

No doubt he'll advise you to stop but knowing what you are doing will help him diagnose your problem.

I'm about to turn 35 been using on and off for awhile.

If you have prostatitis (prostate infection), it might take more than one round of Ciprofloxacin to get rid of it. Also, alcohol sometimes causes prostatitis.

I'm about to turn 35 been using on and off for awhile.

A few things..

Quote
prostate issues how do you know the difference
Enlarged prostate typically presents with signs/symptoms that include:
Difficulty in starting to urinate
Urinary urgency (especially at night)
The feeling of not able to fully empty your bladder
Weak stream of urine
Dribbling at end of urinating

Urinary tract infection in men typically presents with:
Blood in urine
Urinary urgency
Burning or tingling sensation during or after urinating
Fever
Urine that doesn't look clear or yellow, but cloudy
Smelly urine

Prostate issues, particular Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia can increase your odds of getting a Urinary Tract Infection.

Your doctor should have ordered, in no particular order:

CBC W/DIFF (Complete Blood Count with white blood cell analysis) - Here you can usually catch issues like an early infection by way of elevations in your WBC, Neutrophils, Lymphocytes, Monocytes etc
Urinalysis - This is done by way of collecting your urine, look for WBC>10 + positive for nitrites + positive for bacteria + RBC>5, when you see values that look similar to this, could mean an infection
DRE - Digital rectal exam, used to see if you have an enlarged prostate
PSA - An "ok" marker for possible prostate cancer, but in MY OPINION, not very reliable. I've heard of men with normal PSA levels that end up with prostate cancer and then need to get a prostatectomy
CT Scan KUB - more useful when suspecting a kidney stone and most outpatient clinics don't have the scanners in-house

If your urinalysis raised enough suspicion and you were symptomatic, by way of your urinary urgency, it probably prompted your GP to place you on one of these:
Trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim, Septra)
Fosfomycin (Monurol)
Nitrofurantoin (Macrodantin, Macrobid)
Cephalexin (Keflex)
Ceftriaxone

If after taking your antibiotic for 2 weeks you feel like shit (tired & lethargic), it's most likely because of the antibiotics, as they really do a number on your body. Hydrate, rest and take some probiotics and you should start feeling better.

Can your steroid use possibly be causing some of this? Maybe.

While steroids are generally believed to be causatively associated with prostate cancer, the evidence is minimal at best. (Check out this study in pubMed: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3263527/)

Best bet, if your general doctor can't properly treat it, is to see a Urologist, have them get more specific with your workup maybe get a urine culture + CT KUB or Prostate MRI. If it still doesn't show anything, maybe he can get intimate with you and perform an ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy and then see what's really cooking.

I doubt the urologist will be that extreme, most likely will just place you on a stronger antibiotic, have you hydrate very well and call it a day.

Relax brother.

So as long as you're not passing blood with your urine, experiencing severe lower back pain, fevers, loss in appetite, unexplained weight loss etc, I wouldn't get terribly worked up.

Most likely you have a stubborn UTI requiring a different antibiotic. A good test they can use is a Urine C&S (Culture & Sensitivity). This test identifies the exact type of bacteria that could be causing a UTI and then tells you which antibiotic would work best to treat it.

Assuming it is not a UTI, but instead BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia), all it really means is that you have an enlarged prostate and there are meds that can help with that, as well as ambulatory same-day surgeries.

If it's prostate cancer (highly doubt, but you never know), let me make you feel a little better. Check out these stats:

At diagnosis, 79% of prostate cancer cases are localized; in 12%, the cancer has spread to regional lymph nodes, and 5% have distant metastasis. The 5-year relative survival rate for localized and regional prostate cancer is 100%, compared with 29.8% for metastatic cases. ~ https://emedicine.medscape.com/article/454114-overview (https://emedicine.medscape.com/article/454114-overview)

So, assuming you have prostate cancer, you have a 79% chance of it being localized (limited to only the prostate and no surrounding issues). If it is localized, you have a relative survival rate of 100%, because it can be treated surgically and with other agents and essentially eradicated.

Even if the prostate cancer has spread to lymph nodes (12% chance of this being the case), ie regional prostate cancer, you still have a relative survival rate of 100%.

Only in the small, 5% chance of you having prostate cancer metastasis would you then have a 70% chance of having to delete your GetBig account due to needing to make funeral arrangements. But realize you have about a 91% chance of being fine even in the presence of prostate cancer, as it's typically a very well-contained cancer.

Again, that's assuming the worse case scenario were to be at play, but I highly doubt that my man.

Yours in gay porn,

In my older age, I've come to appreciate medical literature and research. If not for the fact that I am so old, who knows. Maybe would have become a proctologist of some sort.

ONEMORE, Great response, but I'd just like to add that I think  it's an enlarged prostate situation similar to what I had a couple of years ago and which a lot of GetBiggers will experience at sometime in their life-line.

While I  was in a hospital bed for a non-related injury I was paid a visit by a doctor in his 90's who stuck a finger up my butt and told me not to worry because it was not cancer, but JUST an enlarged postrate.

At first i thought it was a sick prank pulled by my very sick buddies but a nurse eventually told me that this old doc was a very prominent doctor (urologist?) who was giving a lecture to younger doctors and was asked to check me out before he departed.

That finger-check took all of 10 - 15 seconds and if there was a bill involved ... my med insurance paid for it.

I'd like to add that I have two medical plans .... One from the VA which cost me nothing and one more that cost absolutely nothing as far as I am aware and I have no idea how or why I got that one, but it could be Medicare of which I am completely ignorant.

So I called the number on the card to inquire and was told that my present  med plan is among the very best plans available  within the USA and includes free rides to and from med appointments, free prescriptions and totally free health care products including tooth paste, deodorant, etc. up to $240 a year.

And there was nothing anyone could do to  improve it unless I was able to get free dental work someplace.

I guess I am writing this to encourage all GetBiggers to insure that you have a good med plan for youself and your family because you are definitely going to need it ... when you need it....  sooner or later.

PS... Today I got a tetnus shot and a flu shot and asked the nurse to please hurry as I had a ride waiting for me outside. She just laughed and said, "I'm all done and was wondering what you were waiting for."

Why are needles so pain-less now-a-days!?

Title: Re: BPH/prostatitis
Post by: stuntmovie on October 31, 2018, 03:26:43 PM
QUESTION: Ae there any GetBiggers on this Board who have  no form of Medical Insurance?

I know a good number of former military members who have yet to sign up twith the VA simply because they think that they are too healthy to so.

In this case Uncle Sam's Mis-guided Children definitey does apply.

Quick update just had my appointment,  it was a lady made things interesting. She put her finger in my butt and looked and touched my penis lol. She said my prostate didn't feel enlarged at all just "boggy". She wrote me for 3 weeks of Cipro. I asked her for flomax so I can get some sleep.

I didn't tell her my whole history I thought about a lot if it comes down to it I will.  I'm going back in a month for a follow up. They are going to scan my bladder when I go back. I'm going to drop the flowmax a week before I go back if I'm still having issues I'll tell them about the juice. I don't want my insurance screwing me over.

Im a bit skeptical I feel like I could still have BPH. My PSA was low and my rectal exam came back negative. So hopefully not  If I'm still having problems I'll ask for the camera up the penis or whatever it us they do.

Isn't this directly the opposite of what the research says? I mean, throwing around huge amounts of weights like Ronnie may make your tendons brittle?

But working out in general?  ??? ???

I didn't tell her my whole history I thought about a lot if it comes down to it I will.  I'm going back in a month for a follow up. They are going to scan my bladder when I go back. I'm going to drop the flowmax a week before I go back if I'm still having issues I'll tell them about the juice. I don't want my insurance screwing me over.

Im a bit skeptical I feel like I could still have BPH. My PSA was low and my rectal exam came back negative. So hopefully not  If I'm still having problems I'll ask for the camera up the penis or whatever it us they do.
DONT TELL ANY DOCTOR YOURE USING STEROIDS. IT WILL BE REPORTED TO YOUR INSURANCE AND YOULL BE FUCKED!

This is bad I'm tired and mentally drained. Hopefully things will become more clear.

Try not to stress out. It won't help and it could make matters worse. If one urologist doesn't have the answer, try another.

I was prescribed a med in the past I only used for a short time. If I have any complications from what the med was prescribed for I will be on my own to pay for it. Unless the ins laws have changed in the patients favor which rarely happens.

Please don’t take any of the bro-science meds that these people are suggesting...

Enlarged prostate is most likely going to occur to all of us men — >65 yrs in age..the size will increase..

If labs are coming out negative and very low PSA count then you have nothing to be concerned about (meaning = malignancy concerns) other than the symptoms that are annoying such as: difficulty urinating, hesitation w/ flow/stream, pain w/ urination.   PSA analysis is not a good screening tool for cancer but it does help us Doctors navigate a person who has already been diagnosed w/ prostate cancer and quantify it if it does start to increase again AFTER already receiving treatment.

How to tell if your enlarged prostate is benign?   Well, if doc does digital rectal exam on you..and feels a smooth enlargement that is enlarged homogenously (all-around) then you are good to go..  only complication would most likely be obstruction to your urine stream.. if enlarges enough..can be risk factor for further UTIs in the future...

If malignant= Prostate enlargement wouldn’t be so uniform (irregular- and most likely in a posterior portion of prostate)

BOTTOM LINE:    You might want to ask doc for Alpha-1 blockers= if affecting your urination..  these line of drugs will cause relaxation of these muscles .. but be weary if already using other anti-hypertensive meds... as many older men can experience orthostatic hypotension (syncope/fainting)

Another line of treatment would be  Androgen Receptor blockers.. as more TEST will further exacerbate the the growth of the prostate and cause further obstruction

So if you are feeling burning sensation..raise of temp...etc.    think UTI. =(.

BTW i didn’t name Generic brand name of medications.. as it is best for you to understand the mechanism of action of these type of meds to ask for.. there are several different brands... Tamsulosin aka Flomax is the Alpha-1 blocker

And Flutamide (androgen receptor blocker). But dont be concerned w this unless you got full blown malignancy =(

Most likely a case of urinary tract infection due to urinary obstruction from enlarged prostate...   the increase in WBC is a nice indication of inflammation and increased urgency to pee....  bacteria love to thrive  in the areas of the urethral tract that is obstructed...    and yes.. prostates will enlarge for us all. BUT TEST does exponentially increase the rate of growth

Yeah flomax is usually ok in general population.. but unfortunately should be used w caution in an individual w other co-morbidities that is ALSO using anti-hypertensive medication.. cause this synergy of medications can cause severe hypotension—-that light-headedness that you speak of...

A sports doctor told me that for the 1952 Olympics, the Soviet lifters were given cypionate  during training.  Modern ancillaries were non-existent. They had to be catheterized in order to pee.

Danny Boy, You seem to be very intelligent regarding this subject.

Do you work within the medical field?

And what is your opinion regarding Dr. Champion's advice?

I drink Cranberry Juice  almost as much as I drink water but still had postrate probems in the past, but cranberry juice seems to be recommended by many non-professional, cure advisors.

Or is it 'quackery'?

MD here...  I would first ask the guy’s age.   >65 yrs is pretty much the age population you see this growth.. NO to Spironolactone as this would likely increase ratio of estrogen and cause other unwanted complications!     Cranberry juice wouldn’t solve the prostate enlargement but may help with urinary tract infection caused by an obstruction...   basically, any form of TEST will further exacerbate an already enlarging prostTe that is inevitable for all us males...  which is why the mainstay of treatment for those w prostate cancer is an androgen receptor blocking agent.     Most enlarged prostates are benign and usually don’t get worked up unless you are showing symptoms of other associated problems of malignancy such as lower back pain.   As malignancy from the prostate has a preference to metastasize to the bones of the spinal column

So for this forum population.    If you are experiencing symptoms of urinary retention, urgency, burning sensation , fever.. lay off the test and get a urine culture to determine specific bacterial infection and specific antibiotic.   Urinary obstruction can also lead to epididymitis if not treated urgently and can be quite painful....  all this more annoying than life threatening

Basically. You got to see the anatomy/location of the prostate. As it is in direct contact w the urethral tract exiting the bladder.

Also. If this individual does have an enlarged prostate and confirmed obstruction, drinking excessive fluids is THE WORST thing to do. As this will further lead to urinary retention. NO BUENO!!  As increased urinary retention will back up and cause serious issues with both of you kidneys.... leading to bilateral hydronephrosis and possible acute renal failure if you keep poking the bear...

Dr. DANNY, Thanks!

I read somewhere that 90% of the male population will eventually have prostate problems  if they live long enough.

Here is some info I found on the net .

"Saw Palmetto has been used for centuries but recent studies have also revealed new herbs that work even better in reducing Enlarged Prostate symptoms such as Pygeum Africanum which is now the number one therapeutic treatment for BPH in France and Beta-sitosterol."

I think Larry King was suggesting a product made in France as the best available.

I've also read that this is a 50 BILLION dollar industry (bigger than the steroid market??) .... so there will be a lot of internet scams involved .... so it's best to follow the doc's advice.

Thanks, DOC! Would you be able to suggest an over the counter product/supp that would help with prostate complications?

One website recommends PROSTALEAF because of its Ingredients:
Saw Palmetto 300mg, Pygeum Africanum 150mg, Beta-Sitostrol (Plant Sterol Complex) 450mg, Vitamin-E 30ui and More.

But other websites suggest other brands, possibly because they are 'pushing' their own products.

All you GetBiggers will most likely have prostate problems before or shortly after retirement so take heed and take a close look at your medical coverage!

You're gonna need it!

Just so you know...your bladder believe it or not knows and has a set residual volume of urine that is always acceptable for your body ..so if there is any kind of retention beyond this parameter, you body’s autonomic systemic knows to relieve itself..giving you that urge...   basically, if your obstruction is large enough to still complicate urination... look at your options to decrease the size.... depending on your age and if you are a good surgical candidate.. you may resect part of the prostate....  most do not as most are over 65 and would have worse setbacks by just being under the operating table....  there is also radiation therapy...   it first line of treatment are the medications I had listed above..  try them out first and avoid anabolics..esp if you want this taken care of

No worries.. but I will have to be perfectly honest w you.  I do not have enough experience to refute the
Over the counter supplements that you have mentioned and their effectiveness..  I just know what works and what can treat the symptoms in clinical /hospital setting...   surgery is definitive.  But need to find out if you are a good candidate for surgery...     and yes you are right... we are all fucked w the prostate sometime down the line if we live long enough

THANKS, DOC! (I say "DOC" because I used to train docs how to survive within a combat area (FMSS) many years ago, so I use that as a term of respect!)

So with everyone's permission I'm gonna post 'stuff' regarding YOUR prostate (spelling?) when I find 'stuff' that may be of interest to most prostate owners.

Here is one of those 'stuffs' ...

BPH: Otherwise known as an enlarged prostate, and generally is the most common prostate problem by far.

It typically affects older men the most, as only 1 in 12 suffer from it prior to age 40, while nearly half of men over the age of 50 will experience the issue, and the percentages continue to get worse with age.

By age 80, roughly 8 in 10 men will experience problem with an enlarged prostate.

NEXT UP: What a prostate does. Why we all got one!

I gotta apologise for the length of of this one with a few more to follow but it appears that most of us have an interest in this subject ... so here is more stuff that I anticipate will be of interest ...

"The prostate is a gland that is located in the region between the penis and the bladder, just in front of the rectum. A healthy prostate is thought to be roughly the size of a walnut, and the urethra runs right through it, transporting urine from the bladder to the penis and eventually out of the body.

Additionally, the prostate nourishes semen by secreting a special milky, alkaline fluid that helps to protect it and makes up roughly 30% of semen that is produced by the body. There are also smooth muscles within the prostate that help to expel the semen when orgasm occurs. It is necessary for sexual performance.

Unfortunately, it is also vulnerable to a number of conditions such as cancer, an enlarged prostate otherwise known as benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH, and inflammation.

The prostate is key in the production of semen and the regulation of urinary flow. Let’s take a deeper look at those two bodily functions that they prostate helps to perform: Proper Urinary Function

As mentioned, urine passes through the prostate during the urination process, as it is located right between the bladder and penis. An enlarged prostate, or BPH, can put pressure on the bladder, which makes the body feel the need to urinate more frequently, which is most annoying at night when you’re trying to sleep. Additionally, it can lead to pressure being placed onto the tubes that transport the urine, leading to inconsistent urine flow or dribbling or leaking urine."

Next up ... Regulating Sexual Performance. I believe that Marty questioned this earler someplace up above.

Marty. You seem to be offering a 'second opinion' which is common within the medical field and maylbe SPIRO would be willing to contact you regarding this topic.

Here's a question for ya.

DO you believe that sometime in your lifetime, you wil have prostate problems?

If you think NOT, what are you doing now that will prevent you from having prostate problems in the future?

Saw Palmetto .... check .... I tend to agree with ya
Cranberry juice ...check..... I tend to agree with ya
Lots of water ......check ..... I don't know for sure but that has already            been refuted

Thanks, Marty..... Stay healthy!

The garlic plus ciprofloxacin group showed a statistically significant decrease in bacterial growth and improvement in prostatic inflammation compared with the ciprofloxacin group. These results suggest that garlic may have anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects as well as a synergistic effect with ciprofloxacin.Apr 17, 2009
