g thang what is truly baffling about roy jones was how fast his decline was, when he was a mw and smw he was a beast, he should have never went to lhw and hw.

Went up to HW, cut +20lbs of muscle to get back down. Hence his punch resistants and reflexes went to hell. Unlike FMW, if he never goes up to HW, he does take an L at some point b/c he was a risk taker but he slaughters Tarver, Glenn Jones and Calzaghe before that happens.

You nailed it. The move back down to light heavyweight was stupid. Plus, it was way too fast. Roy was so fucking stubborn that he priced himself out of the Holyfield fight (which James Toney took and destroyed Holyfield) and then cut 20lbs of muscle to fight Tarver for much less money. It was all mapped out for Roy at heavyweight. Holyfield, Tyson and possibly Lewis to really cash out. The only one of those fights he'd have lost was to Lennox.
That said, he is the best fighter I've ever seen. At his absolute best, I'd favor Roy over any fighter under 200lbs in history. Prime cruiserweight Holyfield and Ezzard Charles would have been pick em.

True, at his best he was on another level. One thing is for sure. All fighters fight until they are beaten by lessor fighters. Only guy maybe in history that knew when to quit was Rocky Marciano. This is where someone throws in Mayweather. I'm talking about guys that fight and not those who run.

roy vs michael spinks would have been good as well at lhw, ezzard would have taken him and i think cruiser weight holyfiels would have as well, roy couldnt hang with holyfield for 15 rounds
-
Roy said in plenty of interviews at the time theres no way he was gonna fight Tyson or Lennox as both would have killed him if they landed and 12 rounds is a long time, it takes just one shot from Tyson (See Botha fight)
Holyfield on the other hand was made for Jones Jr.
-
well that’s a highlight reel moment on not taking a fight seriously :) :) :)

I forgot about Michael Spinks. Probably another pick em fight. Bob Foster had the power to KO heavyweights but I don't think he'd have caught a prime Roy clean.

By 2003, Tyson was a pinata. Roy would have made him miss for a couple rounds and made him pay. It would have been a terrible beating by the end of the fight.

Love seeing guys like that get knocked the F out! Clown

Roy Jones Jr, probably the most overrated boxer in this history of boxing.

I'll give you two things, a soiled glittery thong and a packet of mentos.

Spinks is substantially older than RJJ (1956 vs. 1969), I don't think a fight anywhere near both of their respective primes would have been possible.

Roy Jones and Sugar Ray Robinson are the most naturally gifted boxers to ever enter the ring.
