Title: Golden Boy Productions
Post by: Coach is Back! on November 21, 2018, 10:50:31 AM
Who's watching on Saturday? I thought I would be in the corner for one of the fighters on the PPV card but just found out I might be in two

Chuck was great fighter. Wonder if he partied his health away?  Toward the end it seemed everyone had his number.

Will be cool to see these guys fight again but also sad because it is probably because they are broke.

Chuck is 48 now. Walking up to the stage he seemed like he was in pain from just walking, just real stiff. But he has a great coach with Antonio McKee. But watching Tito train for this, he really looked good and had limited back pain.

Credit to both guys as they were in shape. Tito looked about 80% of his former self....poor Chuck looked about 20%. Making 200k + for a couple minutes isn't too bad for these geezers.

He got his check so now it's time to look for another way to make money.

I just got home from the fight. Good night for Tito, he looked great, better than I've seen him years. Chucks mobility is what I thought it would be when the did the presser on Tuesday. He looked almost scared, guard wide open and Tito took advantage of that, he was much faster than Chuck. On the brighter side, I made bank tonight.

Chuck hasn't been able to take a shot for a decade.  The punch resistance is long gone.  If Oscar wants to stay in the MMA game, he is going to have to do much better than this.

This show went really smooth from Monday to the last fight. Damn near sold out the house (from what I saw). I sat ringside in the celeb section with Micky Rourke and Bisping and they were even commenting on how smooth it was run. I think this will be a home run for Golden Boy from here on out.

I hope so.  He needs to shit can the ppv's until he has ppv worthy talent.  PPV almost killed boxing.

Not only that but he looked out of shape and walks so stiffly. Reminded me of Fred Sanford. Kind of a pigeon toe/knock knee limp. He's in his early forties which isn't really that old. Couture was still kicking major ass at that age.

I wonder if he was hurt. He seemed like he didn't really want to fight and just kept running from Tito the whole round.

BTW, Tito, in stark contrast, looked in great shape and had some real pep in his stride. It was funny when he pinched the belly fat on Chuck during the weigh in. I thought that would piss off Chuck but he just shrugged his shoulders as if saying, "Yeah, I'm fat. What am I suppose to do at this point?"

Tito was in great shape and moving extremely well.  This is the best he has looked in a long time.  He had serious neck and back injuries that fucked him up for years.

Chuck is washed unfortunately.  I hope he got a big payday for this, he deserves it.

Hopefully both of these guys will be able to hang it up for good now........but I doubt it.

Person: Tito, those are some nice shoes.

Tito: I've had 80 surgeries, I've been a fighter for 66 years. I have kids. I'm a dad. I've been through a divorce. I have a girlfriend now. I feed the homeless. I'm part Irish and metseekin. My training partners are young. My head is a bit large. Have I mentioned that I've had 92 surgeries?

Just two older gentlemen, strapped for cash, hoping to make a few bucks to set themselves up for retirement.

Sad really when you consider that if these two guys were currently in their prime, they might be able to make millions of dollars for a showing. Unfortunately, these are the giants who helped to build the sport, but who didn't get to reap the benefits of big paydays as we are starting to see now.

Hopefully this event allowed for them to make enough to pay off some debt and maybe set themselves up for a simple life moving forward where they can appreciate their families.

I doubt either of them are strapped for cash. To me that implies that are in serious debt nearing bankruptcy. I did read that Liddel does lead a rather lavish lifestyle, I've seen his home, and it is very lavish, so I'm sure his lifestyle isn't cheap. Since losing his cushy honorary job at the UFC I'm not sure what he does for a steady income. But no matter how much money you have you always want more. If he can still demand a lot of dollars to fight, and I think he can, then why not? I see people his age and older, me for example, still training. You can structure your program to minimize injuries and still get out there and perform as long as people want you to. Same for Tito, too. If you like working out and training you might as well see if you can still get paid to do it. Let some talk about how you are washed up and should hang it up for good. They can have their opinions as they still watch your fights. Meanwhile, you are still cashing checks for a night's work for amounts way more than they make in a year.

hasbeen fighters who are 50 only fight for one reason and that is because they need money.  chuck was beat up and embarrased last night for his 200 k purse minus taxes and training expenses, this card will be a huge money loser and i would be willing to bet a disaster on ppv.

Having a 43 year old fighter on a 7 consecutive win streak with 2 consecutive first round KO’s and having the #1 Heavy weight in  Bellator carries a little more weight than Get Big. Hahaha

We all need money. He got a good deal. Better than what he could doing something else. He wouldn't have done it if it wasn't.

Just because you didn't want to see them fight doesn't mean nobody else did. I've followed their rivalry and was very interested in the third go. I'd still watch Hughes and B.J. Penn got at it. Even Royce and Shamrock.

It's often the personalities that attracts the fans. I'm not a businessman but whoever runs the show aren't dummies and wouldn't do it if they didn't think it will make money. I wouldn't be so quick to sign it off as a financial disaster unless you have some inside knowledge that none of us have.

I read an article that only Rich Franklin showed up for work everyday and took the job serious. Chuck and Matt Hughes rarely even showed up.
