Title: All I Want for Christmas is ....
Post by: stuntmovie on November 22, 2018, 01:57:45 PM
Right now I'm having a tough time deciding between a $200 (Black Friday sale price) Fitbit Ionic Watch or a $250 Oculus Go VR Head-set or one of those new $399 Hero GoPro 7's that supposedly shoots very steady videos no matter how much you jump around while it is attached your head.

I'll probably end up receiving all three of the above, but I would appreciate hearing from any GetBigger who may be familiar with one of more of the above 'things'. (Pro and con ...Makes no difference.)

And if this topic gathers 4 or more responses, I'll throw in a few specific questions which one of you geniuses may be willing to answer ...a question such the following ....

What do you need to see movies, games, etc. on the Oculus GO?

Does some external source send the visual stuff directly to the GO or do you have to use a Smart-Phone to make it work.

I only have a dumb-phone  (I thinkl!).

Thanks! (I think!)

And ... How about some suggestions on gifts for kids ...  5 to 10.

HENDA, In Boit Camp you learn that there is no such thing as a Stupid Question ... just dumb answers!

So I'm gonna suggest TITO's Vodka and  ask ya what kind of work ya do!

So that's dunb and smart rolled together in one sentence!

Have you tried TITO yet?

Is the fitbit just a step counter? I use a GPS watch for running. Accurate and gives the important pace information. No runner will come up to you and say I ran at 8 MPH.  The pace per mile is everything. 8 MPH is a 7:30 pace mile. The trouble I have with fitbits is people want credit for being alive. One guy said he walked 5 miles today. I asked him where he walked and he said he didn't it was his total for the day being alive.  No, that isn't exercise. It's called life and being alive.

I wish I was at that point mate
I’m normally the same but I’m unusually busy for this time of year, got a conservatory/sun room to finish (just poured the foundations today, only need to get it watertight no internal works), a paved driveway and a garden wall to build before wrapping up for the year. Can’t wait to be loading up the truck at the end of the last day

Sounds ideal mate even mid dec finish still good, had a shit year last year had been quiet with work for most of autumn so took a job on just over a week before Christmas which dragged on so had to go back and finish it myself in the new year, was back at work before my kids were even back at school was most miserable Christmas ever vowed never again.

In the old days life was simple.

People just wished for two front teeth.

Advances in dental health have made that irrelevant.

and a purple mattress cover.  Why does my mattress keep breaking so quickly?  I don't walk around with it strapped to my back.  ::)

OLDTIMER, The "word on the street" is that FITBIT watches do just about everything a runner/walker needs to kep physically fit while running/walking

I believe that the more expensive FITBIT watches include GPS and most of the stuff that is included on the latest $500 Apple watch, but it does't call an ambulance if you fall down.

And every runner that I've run over was wearing a FITBIT ... so it does  fail to warn of on-coming traffic .... apparently!

If it has the dual feature of a step counter and gps I can see it's something to consider. GPS is  satellite tracking and not a brand so I it went over my head by what you mean by "more expensive".  GPS tech in a watch improves every year. I had one about 3 years go for a good buck and the present cheaper one have better tech and are cheaper. The $500 GPS watches of a couple years ago can be found for $150 now.  If you're a runner a simple timex Ironman has all the features you will need.

Is the Fitbit really necessary? How do they enhance our lives?

I like the Apple watch working out, hiking etc because it also holds my music.

Well, I just broke another tooth, so root-canal #4 coming up.
40 year old fillings are showing up to cause issues now and breaking, my diet of soda and candy when I was a kid (plus soft teeth) causing problems.
Thankfully my benefits are great, who would be able to afford this shite... Like SF said, just to start another year and be alive is great.

He's (SF1900) a lot younger than me, and at my age now, everyone around is dying. (Lost 2 friends this month, but they were both 95, imagine living that long)?
Funny thing is, today when I broke the tooth, I was eating Sushi. I could tell for the last month it was coming (the break) but Sushi?? Really??

Thank god Im so damn handsome, who needs tooth's??  : )

HTEX, I was just about to drop $250 for one of those Oculus Go 'things' but am giving it second thoughts as a result of your negative comment above.

Two questions:

Why did you not like it?

If I did get one, how do you "load" the movies and games. etc. into it?
Would I need a smartphone to make it work?

Thanks, TEX!

I’d like a Fitbit for Christmas
A mid 20’s mute Blonde - Long Legs & Big Tits FitBit.   ;D
Not sure I’m going to ask the misses for one though.!!!

Implants are the way to go if you can afford them. Two of my molars and two of my wisdom teeth are crowned. The molars because of failed old childhood fillings and the wisdom teeth because I chew ice and cracked them. The molars have porcelain crowns and the wisdom teeth are gold.

Painful or no?

You misread my post or I misstated. I don't have implants but I've thought about getting my crowned molars replaced with them should there be further decay, otherwise it doesn't seem advantageous. A single implant runs between $1,500 and $6,000. Crowns cost $500 - $1,500.Crowns are less painful than extractions followed by implants. Implants are preferable to wearing dentures as there is less chance of bone loss, if any. They also stay put while dentures do not.

Cons.
Battery life is only 2 hours.
The ecosystem sucks.
The tracking is limited.
Gave me a headache.

Pros
The big tv mode for Netflix is cool
VR porn is something everyone should see, but again movies are limited. Go to pornhub or something and look for VR or POV

You need to link a smart phone to set it up. but after that, everything can be handle by the headunit. If you don’t have a smartphone , maybe something like bluestacks would work on your computer?
You can get movies into it by plugging it in to you computer. I just streamed Netflix and Plex to it. That is the easiest way. If you are really interested in it, go buy it from Best Buy and return in within 14 days if you don't like it.
