The focus being shifted to autonomously cybernetically controled vehicles...how thrilling........

Horizontal elevator is an oxymoron.
True- but for some reason Otis, the king of elevators, decided to coin the term, haha

You'd think they would instead have worked on hover cars or even flying cars...

Horizontal elevator is an oxymoron.

Yes it is, but it most aptly describes this vision of soulless surface transportation where you have no direct control over the car you are in.  You will only be able to input your desired destination to the system, and the steering, speed, and routing will be determined "for you"...

Never understood cars that drive them self.  You're supposed to pay attention to traffic in case you have to take the wheel to avoid a collision. Why then do I need a car that will drive itself if I'm watching for a collision?  I will just put my hands on the wheel and drive.

It will reach a point where you will have no choice...the car will not let you drive it...all you will be able to do is input where you want to go (and potentially if you will be allowed to go there)...all the cars will communicate with the others around them...they will know which cars will be turning...how fast to go...where do holes in traffic need to be made for merging...where is everyone going...which entrance at your destination...the roadways will be re-engineered for machine control and not human control...it will be a "Transport Borg"

The social credit score is already being used in China to designate if a citizen is able to travel to their desired destination.

Only the rich are permitted to fly as that is a way to skate around normal methods of control. No flying cars for you sync pulse, unless you've never said anything bad about the system online.....ever.

Imagine these little toys being cars on the road...the key to it is not allowing individual human control!

I see this kind of thing working in a closed environment, but in a place like New York City where there’s tons of pedestrians who are constantly playing chicken against the cars I don’t see how this would fly.

Yet you will be able to do numerous “leisure activities” while on your way to your destination. Think of the possibilities. What sells more than the idea of “freedom”?

Most of the auto industry welcomes this transition because they want their company to be thought of as a tech company and therefore their market cap should be in the same trillion dollar range as the other tech companies.  That's the picture their trying desperately to paint.  We're not a car company we're a high tech mobility company and our market cap deserves to be as high as Apple and Google.  Detroit is the new silicon valley.

Mercedes is so excited about this transition they separated the truck division into a separate division from the new high tech division selling electric mobility devices.

It will be a generation before this becomes mainstream anyhow. The whole history of the automobile is based on individual transportation with control. This is for adult's under 25 and  kids being born today.

People getting upset about this said they'd never own a cell phone, they didn't need 24 hour access during travel,a land line was perfectly fine.

if GM does not pull off electric vehicles and SUV's they're dead.
You cannot produce a shitty car anymore and think you'll make billions. Japanese and Chinamen are alredy masters of this. In my opinion, all auto industry in USA is experiencing a slow and painful death.
The worst thing is that the golden parachuters preserved their capital being bailed with your taxes. The taxes of honest, hard working Americans. Obama allowed this, fuck him. Also, fuck that backstabbing Adolf Twittler biotch.

Being as how I am a control freak, this isn't the car for me. Plus, I like driving.

Being retired, driving is pretty much a leisure activity for me.

Most Japanese and Korean automobile brand names end in a vowel, while American, German , British and French automobile names predominately end with a consonant.
