SR-71
I know a guy who worked on these in their final days of flight. He said when they were fully loaded with fuel, the tanks would leak thru the skin of the plane like a sieve. Upon takeoff and altitude, the skin would heat up and tighten and the leaks would stop. Also, on the ground, a Chevy 350 engine with an attached driveshaft was used to start the engines. Really cool airplane with capabilities that were unworldly considering when it was developed.

Seeing an SR-71 in flight is an other worldly experience.

My favorite was always The Lockheed F-117 Nighthawk, which was the first Stealth aircraft.
It reminded me of a UFO back in 1988. It's first flight was made in 81.

Also liked the later Lockheeds, due to multirole and stealth.

F-35 Lightening 2 with the F-22 Raptor a close second. Nothing touches those two.
Nobody owns the air like the USA.

they say the B-2 is not an easy plane to fly...they call it the "flying wings"....when flying to enemies territory, the B-2 would be escorted by a pair of Fighters cause it can't maneuvers like a Fighter as it's main purpose was to Drop Bombs and be undetectable

SR-71
SR-71 was a spy plane, not a fighter....it didn't carry any weapons...the Skunk Project ended and all SR-71s retired and spy planes were no longer needed as Satellite Technology became advanced

Still a war time aircraft, Cold War time aircraft, isn't it? It's the coolest looking one too, in my opinion, and it's still the fastest manned airbreathing jet aircraft ever made.
"the SR-71 operated at high speeds and altitudes to allow it to outrace threats. If a surface-to-air missile launch were detected, the standard evasive action was simply to accelerate and outfly the missile."
"At sustained speeds of more than Mach 3.2, the plane was faster than the Soviet Union's fastest interceptor, the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-25, which also could not reach the SR-71's altitude. During its service life, no SR-71 was shot down."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_SR-71_Blackbird
"The Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird holds the official Air Speed Record for a manned airbreathing jet aircraft with a speed of 3,530 km/h (2,193 mph)."

The Nazi's were certainly on their way to conquering the planet. Only they were a little too slow on developing the H bomb.

that was impressive.....I think this F22 vertical Launch shortly after take off was pretty impressive as well

Stealth, saw it flying over during an airshow in Ft. Laud. Looks like a giant silent Bat in the sky.

The XB-70 Valkyrie was a beautiful plane.

P51 mustang...a hot rod of a fighter plane

My Dad is a Ww2 vet, and I asked him if any of his buddies saw action, and he pointed out his friend Ray Bain, and said " Ray piloted a P51, and he was a triple Ace". I had no idea he was a badass I just knew him as the old guy my Dad played golf with

Fiat G.55 Centauro
Probably the best Italian fighter of World War II and the main fighter of the Italian Social Republic.
The Luftwaffe, after testing it rated the the G.55 as "the best fighter of the Axis" and considered producing it under license, but its production hours were a lot higher than that of the BF-109. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_G.55

Beat me to it - good choice 8)
Watched a good doc on the development of this a few months back - I hadn't realised that us Brits were about to pull the plug before it got into proper production when the US (Navy I think) stepped in with an order... good timing...
Only 25 mins

Gotta love the fact that because of the operating temperature of the outer skin, these things were made almost entirely out of titanium from Russian (which was of course still the CCCP/USSR at the time...) and the Soviets had no idea! Haha - Хорошие времена!
Interview with a former pilot - see 3:35

Caproni N.1 Campini

Damn right. If the US had not developed the H bomb first, we would all be speaking German right now.
