Thank you, HN! You reframed my thinking!

I, now, fully disagree with this thread.

SF1900 has been training forever and he is still asking rookie questions. Questions asked by Beginners. No wonder weightlifters are perceived as being dummies.

Sounds fabulous! Was it Bermuda grass? Was the olive oil extra virgin or slutty?  :D

Dandelions are good for you. The flowers are best known for their use in dandelion wine, but they also can be added to a salad, made into jellies or dipped in batter to make dandelion fritters. The leaves are rich in potassium, antioxidants, and vitamins A and C. Dandelion greens can be eaten raw, steamed, boiled, sautéed or braised.

If it's for breakfast, try the fritters.

so, what’s better, free weights or machines?  ??? ??? ???

Short term, for isolating muscles and getting the best definition and strength gains = free weights.

Long term, to preserve your tendons + ligaments + joints, not tear any muscles, fracture any bones and keep a respectable build that 99% of the population will appreciate = machines.

I’ve been able to maintain all of my gains just by using machines.

Absolutely. You can maintain everything you have gained. Question is whether by using machines, you can attain the best level of definition to your muscles, assuming you get down to very lean levels of body fat. I only find that free weights, particular dumbbell work for chest, allows me to get a lower squeeze to the pecs that brings out the pecs more, as compared to machines.

Then again, today, I see a lot of machines with great design and interesting range of motion that lends itself well to isolating muscles.

They should make a study on this.

when I say machines, I also mean plate loaded machines, not just the  machines where you put the pin in the plate.

I think plate loaded machines, to an extent, mimics free weights.

That’s all broscience

All you need is 4 plates on the hammer strength press to develop big chest like dexter or Phil

With the right genetics and drugs, that is correct.

I think it's the continual tension principle.  Notice how he is careful to not lock out.

His plates dont match.... shouldn't this create a muscle imbalance between his pecs?

The elite have genetical advantages I guess. :/

My personal experience suggests you couldn't be more correct. A late gym buddy of mine torn up his shoulders over and over, always when using free weights, too much weight and bad (jerky) form.
