I've always thought Gladiator was a cheap knock off of Braveheart. Same basic story - man of peace becomes man of war after family is killed, gets betrayed, dies in the end....even down to the dead wife waiting for his spirit.....but Braveheart did it better, with better action and better looking women.
But I've also been told my opinion is shit. What is the opinion of GetBig? Which of these films did you prefer and why?
Oh - Bodybuilding related - Ralph Möller and Sven Ole Thorsen were in Gladiator, and William Wallace obviously had access to a bench press and vitamins in oldey timey Scotland....
-
Liked both.
-
Would rate Braveheart higher but both are great films.
-
Couldn’t watch either.Hate that kind of crap.
-

Gladiator wasn't a man of peace who becomes man of war...he was a GD General in the Roman army!
Gladiator has better music, better fight scenes and better acting.
-
Thought both were actually not very good but Gibson is much better then Crowe.
-
Hmmm? Braveheart wins but Gladiator makes a nice fight of it.

Well, I haven't seen the film for a very long time. I was under the impression Maximus wanted to settle down with his family on his farm...memory not what it used to be..

Braveheart over Gladiator for me. Last Samurai was a very good movie too.
-
Bravehart - Better directing, cinematography, and acting. Stories are about equal to me. Both are fine films though.
-
Braveheart is better for me, I find gladiator a chore to get through.
-
I liked both. Gladiator is about a fucking Roman General fighting in a gladiator arena - does not get more badass than that! Both won Oscars.
-
Braveheart just cause of Mel Gibson and his drunk ass ;D
-
Haven't seen Braveheart, so that's one for the weekend... it'll be interesting to contrast the two now I'm forewarned, so to speak...
Did see Gladiator though and really enjoyed it, esp. Joaqin Phoenix turn as Commodus with his blood lust

IMO
Mel Gibson = movie star (but down to Earth) that can act
Rusty Crowe = actor that takes 'The Craft' very seriously and is reluctant movie star
(And didn't Richard Harris 'ascend to Zeus' while they were filming..? Or was it Oliver Reed, maybe..?)

BEEF ON A BUDGET

We're only concerned with antisemitic Australian leads in this thread.

-
Liked all Four when they came out.
Braveheart, Gladiator, Rob Roy, Troy.
They don't make movies like that anymore.
The latest Troy-series was infested with Conkers.

The correct answer is gladiator over Braveheart, but Gibson over Crowe

Dont forget kingdom of heaven, the directors cut of it is vastly different and possibly elevates it over all the others here. Its 50 minutes longer and massively improves it over the theatrical cut.
“Let’s first make something as clear as absolutely possible – the Director’s Cut of Kingdom of Heaven is the only version of this film that should exist. I’m not sure if needless film cutting at the hands of the studio of this magnitude has ever been done before, but the theatrical cut of Kingdom of Heaven is not only inferior, it’s bad – whereas the original Director’s Cut of the film is not only good, it may be amongst the top films Ridley Scott has ever made. So, part of the reason why we love this movie is simply because it exists when it very easily might not have. It’s a crime that the Director’s Cut version of the film did not make it into theaters, but it would have been a monumental loss if this cut had never been able to see the light of day ever.”
