Title: lost dog lucy found after 3 years on the run.

this  8 years old black lab ran away over 3 years ago. and was on the run all this time. it was found 43 miles away.  read story on themorningcall.com if interested. i remember because the lost dog signs were up for over 2 years without results.

I had a mixed breed chihuahua when I was a preteen...She disappeared one day when I came down with the flu and was bedridden...Years later when my Mom was in assisted living she confided in me that my dad, in her exact words, "Took that dog off somewhere and dumped it."...Happy Father's Day, Dad...

I suspect many "runaway" dogs actually meet that same fate.
