Supersonic business jet: Boeing backs startup's plan for 1,000-mph plane

Boeing Co. is joining with Aerion Corp., a startup founded by Texas billionaire Robert Bass, to help build a supersonic business jet that would cut trans-Atlantic flight times by three hours.
The first flight for the plane — which, at about 1,000 miles per hour, will cruise 70 percent faster than today's quickest business jets — is scheduled for 2023. Launch customer Flexjet, a fractional aircraft operator, has ordered 20 of the models. The 12-passenger aircraft has a list price of $120 million.

It looks like Lockheed backed out and Boeing stepped in. You want to fly over 500 miles an hour? It's going to cost you, big time. For comparison, an 300 passenger Airbus A350 costs less than this 12 passenger airplane.

Holy shit. Boeing lurks Getbig?!

I believe Dennis Muilenburg (Boeing CEO) saw the thread on the 797, and the disrespect Boeing was getting for not having an airplane over 500 miles per hour, and he was not having it.
-
Same old shit.
They need to make passenger jets that fly at mach 1 and beyond. We should be there already. What's the holdup? Spending hours flying around in planes at only go 500mph is a tremendous waste of time.
??? comparing buildings with airplanes?
Bring back the Concorde and redesign it.
Why not? because greedy companies like Boeing dominate the industry. Can't beat them, buy 'em!
RIP McDonnell/Douglas and many others.
Airbus is our only hope.
What do you have to say now Mr Anabolic?

Who will be the first getbigger to purchase one? I'm planning on buying two.

It sounds like Mr. Muilenburg does not take kindly to disrespect. Not on the internet, not in person, not in a grocery store parking lot, not in line at Walmart, not in a restaurant, not at the beach, not at the dry cleaners...anywhere.

Uhhhhh,
Didn't Boeoing already do this, back in the 70s? Anyone remeber the SSTs? ???

Project Pluto....the "Flying Crowbar"

A step in the right direction, but they need to make normal passenger jets that fly beyond mach 1.
Tonight's Powerball numbers are...

Greg Gutfeld (from The Five on Foxnews) asked why airplanes haven't gotten better or faster in so long just like an earlier thread on Getbig. Does he post or lurk here? ???

I know for a fact the Vice President of Boeing Engineering is on Airliners.net. He was commenting on how they've already designed the 797.

How people go on airplanes routinely blows my mind.been on a couple flights in my life and will never do it again.Scared the bejesus our of me.Needed to take a muscle relaxer and Xanax to handle it.Went from Boston to Vegas and everyone said no big deal I fly there all the time easy 6 hour flight.Well we hit turbulence for an hour straight and an old lady next to me held my hand.

I wouldn't mind the actual flying if it weren't for my 'exploding ears syndrome' I get at altitude. My eardrums feel like they are rupturing and this lasts for days after the flight. The last couple of times I've flown I've taken a pill and worn earplugs to help but it still hurts. There is no way I could fly regularly for business as I would be constantly miserable.

Well he better start reading the Wisdom of Wiggs, otherwise his supersonic jet is gonna fly right off the Earf.

Stolen Nazi technology >:(

cant wait to board again , take offs , plane vibrations, gliding over clouds, observing stars at night flights, sexy hostesses, etc,... loved to the max .................... ;)

Damn, how many airplane posts you going to make on here at one time?
-
If getbiggers all chip in their money, we can purchase one of these jets and fly around together.
-
So this will be a modern Concorde.

Was thinking the same thing.hahaha, guy has a plane fetish.
-
All private business jets companies have been trying to develop this technology for years. It’s just getting it certified and reducing the sound barrier.
-
So this will be a modern Concorde.
so 40 years after the 1st commercial supersonic flight has Boeing found a way to overcome the opposition (protectionism) that scuttled Concorde?
