90% of people believe their muscles have above-average intelligence.

As a personal trainer, I think that changing it up every workout is important for the everyday lifter, who just wants to stay in shape and be healthy. People often tell me that "going to the gym gets so boring." Therefore, it's important to change it up at least to keep people motivated, as doing the same thing over and over again will get boring to the average gym rat.

However, the muscle confusion principle is likely a load of crap if you're an elite athlete or competitor, etc.

Bro-science on both ends of the argument.

Props to Coach for wearing his seatbelt.

Safety first👍

Agree with the argument as well. The way to get adaptations is to hit the same fibers over and over.

Wasnt muscle confusion the principal philosophy of Larry Scotts training? I think he marketed his training as Bio-phase or something similar but it was essentially the same idea.

Arnold mentions this in his book, that the body gets used to certain exercises, so you have to keep 'surprising' the muscles with doing exercises in a different order and changing movements etc.

It's good to change up movements from time to time. No greater proof than new found soreness.

Yeah, I'm no expert but the lack of DOMS despite lifting heavy weights always seemed to signal (Bro-Science alert) a time to change exercises... but like I say - what do I know...  ;)

Agreed. I notice when I do an exercise that I have never done before, I always feel more sore the next day.

Must be something to the muscle that gets used to the same exercise every week.

I dont experience muscle confusion that often but it SUCKS when your chest is out of it and thinks its your glutes and sits on the toilet. My head hits the water every single time.

DOM’s does not indicate muscle growth. Unless your name is Vince Basile.

Take drugs and do Vince’s bicep curl machine to get 22 inch arms in no time
