What would you rather be? A 170lbs black belt in Jui jitsu who is in fantastic shape but looks like a muscular runner or a steroid 240 pound monster who couldn't run around a block without getting winded who couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag?

Here's a 5'8" 145lbs Olympic wrestler and MMA fighter. He reminds me of a jui jitsu guy in my dojo who weighed about 145lbs. At the time there were only three jui jitsu dojos in the US. It was California, NY and NJ. It was around the time of UFC 2. People were flooding the dojo who had the first and only American Black belt Craig Kukuk and his partner Renzo Gracie. Saw some really big muscular guys come in who had black belt in other arts. Funny they would walk in with their black belts and after getting submitted 8 times in one session either quit or came back with a white belt. Back to the 145lbs guy. I would see the gleam in his eye when these big guys came in. Wrestling with them for under a minute he would have them tapping out. Some were so embarrassed they never returned.

Hard for the typical steroid using bodybuilder who is a fan of drugs to comprehend but the majority of people involved in athletics are not on performance enhancing drugs.

240 lbs isn't a monster unless your under 5'5.

I’d I agree with you up to a point
Most recreational part time fun trainers no doubt are not on PED’s
It’s a very different story when they become serious, competitive, want to win, or $ involved.
If you wish to believe otherwise good for you - only realism & understanding of the human
Psyche isn’t a strong point for you I’d Guess.

And yet Schwarzenegger at his biggest contest weight was about 240 at 6 feet plus. Um, yeah, he wasn’t a monster- sure...

"The vast majority of people who misuse steroids are male non-athlete weightlifters in their 20s or 30s"
-
The second one obviously, weigh around 240 but am very far from a monster at 6’1” would probably have to be 280 + I’d guess, tried to run a few hundred metres to the pub when raining and only made half way

It took me more than 70 years to appreciate my having a slim and fit body. Oh, and new clothes.
-
The 170 pound jiu jitsu brah is going to be way more comfortable so I'd go with that.
-
You won't be 240lbs for long if your cardiovascular condition sucks that bad. Not sure how much worm food weighs.
-
Once you get older the, agile, limber 170 lbs cardio-machine sounds like a dream-option.
