Being a cop is a thankless job.

This dude puts his life on the line trying to take out a SCUMBAG who robs a bank and opens fire in a residential area and he's persecuted because the one time event results in a criminal who doesn't die after he unloads his weapon.

It's a horrendous situation. It was literally a kill or be killed situation and this dude reacted by fighting for his life.

Maybe a solution could be to have police officers work a desk job after they've killed someone in the line of duty.

I'm sure if the cop took the criminal out with his first shot he never thinks about bringing more ammo.

Also we can put a ban on all guns and people would still find a means to get them just like they do everything else.

They already do, but it's only temporary.

No I mean permanently. Get them off the street. They're not trained as soldiers. They shouldn't be at war with the public.

I know what the job calls for but at the end of the day they are human beings.

He shot the perp 14 times and he was still standing! Don't blame him for wanting all the ammo he can carry. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. That's one time you are caught slipping that you won't get a second chance at.

Might want to aim somewhere else if that's the case..

He did after that and planted three in his skull. That called proceedings to a halt but he had nearly run out of ammo hence this thread.

Do some research on police shootings.   roughly speaking, only 3% of shots taken hit their target in a gunfight.

What part is confusing?

A police officer is a high stress job. An individual who has been involved in a gun fight, im not aware if hes a swat team member, has had even more stress and anxiety added to a high pressure job.

Mordern society isnt set up so that we have to kill others to live. The idea is we have evolved past that.

Maybe you are able to kill someone and not have any issues.  Most people will have issues after killing someone, in this instance the officer in question now has to carry what seems like an absurd amount of ammunition on his person.

Based on his experience its not an outlandish amount. Also based on his experience and his actions regarding carrying ammo, its safe to assume he will be more inclined to eliminate threats (which is his training) and ask questions later.

Is this the best option for a community? Or for his department?

Im not saying he was wrong in his actions, nor is he wrong for his preperation. However its apparent hes still dealing with the trauma of this event so maybe being on the road isnt in everyones best interests.

It was a logical SUGGESTION.

Police are huge targets these days thanks to MSM.
500 killings in Chicago each year on the streets. A cop kills someone committing a crime and running, they become the bad guy.
Country goes  upside down.

(When innocent cops are executed sitting in their cars, barely a blip on radar from MSM).

I don't think he's suffering from trauma.  He's just more experienced and wants to be better prepared if a situation like this occurs again.

He was outgunned by this perp.

Modern society has not evolved past the point of violent confrontation.  You really believe it has?

Do some research on police shootings.   roughly speaking, only 3% of shots taken hit their target in a gunfight.

Hard to hit a moving target then add in the target can kill you adrenaline rush. Ever been to  a pistol range? Most civilians miss the target at 25 yards and the target is still and there is no stress what so ever. Try running or suddenly drawing a gun out from a holster and get on target when the target can kill you. It's another situation entirely.

You have no legal right to resist arrest. You fight the charges in court. Almost all of this nonsense with cops is because of a resisting subject. Nearly 4000 shootings almost every year in Chicago. Mainly black victims and from what is known black shooters. Black Lives Matter couldn't give a damn about that.  They just want celebrities and liberals to contribute to them so they can live a a nice life from the donations. Sad to say black males are around 7% of the population but commit crime way out of proportion to their numbers. This writer is a Hispanic. Just pointing out what is politically incorrect to point out in today's society. These hoods give hard working Blacks a bad name.

You may be right. Neither of us know for sure, we're only speculating. And i agree thats why i said hes prepared if this freak occurrence ever happens again.

What i said is modern society is set up so that we DONT have to kill others to live. Obviously there are exceptions to this, but the average human isnt waking up consciously thinking im going to be ready to take out anyone who crosses me. Maybe life is different where you live?

Violent confrontations happen everyday and everywhere. They dont typically end in shoot outs.

Bro im not sure what we're arguing about, i suggested that officers invovled in fatal shootings may be better off mentally if they are removed from the streets and work at a desk. You said you dont follow my logic, why?

Do you think a police officer should expect to kill someone in the line of duty? I know its a possibility and it is a legitimate risk and of the job description and that a good cop is always prepared for the worst but unless theyre in a bad area im not sure its something that crosses their mind all day.

The reason I think hes suffering from trauma from this is the amount of ammo hes carrying.

Id like to know how many shoot outs hes been involved with and how many shots were fired in those exchanges.  What took place in the video above was a FREAK occurrence, and he didnt run out of ammo.

Wouldnt you think it would be drastic, and i know this is an apples and oranges comparison,  if because an individual ran almost out of gas in the desert one time decided every time they travel they bring a full 5 gallon gas can?

You seem like a really nice guy who does his best to avoid violent situations.

Cops are paid to handle the violent situations you can avoid.

To bad for the cop in the video you werent there to take out the perp. Maybe we can meet up and you can show me how to be a man?

Lol cops are paid to handle violent situations you can avoid and write tickets and arrest people and show up to court to testify when required.....  do you do all this in your community as well?

IronNat when you go into violent situations are you wearing a kevlar vest or is that unnecessary for an alpha like yourself?

Also do you neighbor's cower in fear when they see you approaching or do they just disperse like cockroaches?

Also can i have your address?

It was a logical SUGGESTION.

I think it's just an assumption on your part. I would need to see data that indicates a person involved in a shooting is more likely to be involved in an unjustified shooting if left on the street. I just don't think that is backed up by stats.
Next, why punish the officer? A lot of cops HATE desk duty. Part of what they joined for was to be on the streets. Unless it is shown there is a danger with it, I wouldn't implement the idea.

I had a Lieutenant that carried 7 magazines, in addition to the one in the weapon. He ended up doing 40 something years with the department before cancer forced him out. He had been in a shootout in the 70's and his philosophy was better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Couldn't really argue with that.

1. It is 100% an assumption by me that's why I used the word assume, you even highlighted it.

I'm sure there is data on these situations and I would hope they examine it before the make rules based on my posts on getbig.

A007 you had 30 years on the force, how many shoot outs were you involved in? And out of those how many ended in death?

Did any of the shoot outs change the way you approached the job?

2. I never said punish the officer, he is a HERO.  I said if there were residual trauma from that incident, the implication being that he was unable to work a patrol car unit safely and effectively, it would be better for everyone if he worked a desk.

Do you disagree with that?

I made this suggestion because of the amount of ammo he now keeps on his person. Again i'm assuming hes never been in a gunfight like the one mentioned in the video, i'm also assuming the fact that he shot the criminal so many times and that he didn't go down was an abnormality.

That said, when it was all said and down he didnt run out of ammunition. Obviously this event changed how he approaches the job, as it justifiably should. He was in a life and death situation.

Maybe 145 rounds isnt much at all, it only sounds like alot to the public. What was normal for you to carry while on duty?

Thanks

Your reaction is a bit extreme.  You must think I am attacking you which is not the case.

Better ease off on the 'roids though so you can stop the rage

Crazy that the dude was not only still standing, but still engaging with 6 fucking fatal wounds already.  He still manages to peep under the car, and takes 3 bullets to the skull and somehow still has vital signs when EMS arrives AND apparently makes it to the hospital....WTF??? Was the dude made of steel, AND on PCP?  Dude is super human FFS.

Godsmack hasn't put out a great song for quite awhile now, but check out this YT vid some dude made to the song "Bulllet Proof" using some Netflix show...

It was after from what I can remember. But from 1970 something until he retired about 4 years ago, he was never in another shoot out so I'm not sure how that fits into the theory.

Well my theory was the shoot out caused a dramatic change in an individual's philosophy. And it looks like in at least one aspect it did. Obviously real research would need to be done.

Thanks
