Title: Big 3 for Non-Powerlifters
Post by: Powerlift66 on April 15, 2019, 01:41:55 PM
Enjoying the trap bar deadlift these days.
Weighted dips also great.
I do the pull-ups (or pull-downs) w/ neutral grip (MAG bar these days for pull-downs), torn elbow tendon doesnt enjoy the palms facing FWD grip any more.

I have switched to the trap bar exclusively at this point.

Same here, lower back and disc's are thanking me for it...

It definitely puts the spine in a more neutral position.

Whenever I start really focusing on heavy DL, after a few months I'll invariably pop something in my right lower back and be basically immobile for a few days.  I've wondered if doing trap bar deads would be better.

Heavy weighted dips are the king for tris, shoulders and chest.of course now I I have to do them last cause I need a full workout to warm up the shoulder.

I just do dips at the end when I'm tired and don't need a lot of weight to feel like it's worthwhile.

Heavy weighted dips is just asking for shoulder trauma in my opinion.

I can lift so much more with the trap bar because the handles are higher than the bar.

Try the low-bar handles. It’s a killer!

Would replace the weighted dips with the standing military press but good list regardless.

Yes to one leg calves raise and lots of wrist curls and reverse wrist curls.

Dont forget the new "King of the Lifts" in modern gyms, the "rope face pulls"... Dont forget to check Instagram after each set.

I LOL'd:

"Where do powerlifters stand with strict pull ups"?

"Probably under the pull up bar."  :P

They also have "in-line" handles

Clean & Press, Military Press, Push-Press also good additions.

The bolded suggestion is a good way to end up in traction.

Weighted Dips can be hellacious on your shoulder and elbow joints!

If you only want to do three exercises then Squat/Bench/Row work well enough.

This exercise is stupid. 95% of the people that attempt it in the gym are doing it incorrectly.
Performing this on your side with a dumbbell would be the best option.

Otherwise I was trolling

Parabolan - What a Great Steroid !!!
Sadly Long Gone.

Always came in those single use 76ml break-top ampules.

I was sitting at the front desk one night at Golds Venice and new IFBB Pro and friend Jeff Poulin asked, "Tom, can I use the back room real quick for a shot?"   Naturally I said yes. I walked into the little back office/lunch room (it's long gone now) and Jeff was loading up 3ml of Parabolan into one 3ml syringe. When he went to break the top off one of the little vials the entire vial just crumbled in his fingers. The Parabolan of course spilled onto his hand and ran off onto the floor. We both looked at each other and at the same time we both started "fake crying."  HAHAHAAHHAA.  We started laughing so hard.

Good ol' Parabolan.

Good ol' Parabolan.

I couldn’t handle more than 2 76mg shots a week without my lower back locking up
Like concrete mid workout when any back work was involved.
Dorian said the same - it was over either 2 or 3 shots did the same to him.
I had a long spell on 2 organon sust & deca every 10/12 days & the parabolan every 7days
At around 95/7 kg jeez was I strong & in almost contest condition!!!
If only at my now advanced age I could get those exact pharmaceutical Steroids
I’d be very very happy  ;D

My personal “big 3” is the paused bench, light high rep pause squats last excercise in leg routine due to fucked up knees, and stiff legged deadlift off a 4 inch block (do like regular deads but they can be draining when work is busy, the deficit sldl is a lot lighter and less taxing

:) Oh ya.  All the real gear was 100 percent properly dosed and so good. Poulin could have been loading a single or 2x I just remember the mess in his hand and our fake crying.
