Well if you've like me trained at many gyms over the years then you run into some machines you just like more than others.
One of mine is the Hammer Strength Select Fixed Pulldown!

Anything with cables is how I go now. It's a nice compromise between fixed plane machines and free weights. You get safety, quick weight changes and a greater degree of freedom in the movement.
-
i dont want that, i want to be locked in with little movement. to lift up and down is the most i can manage :D

I liked all of the plate-loaded Hammer pieces I used, but the ones with weight stacks usually felt very awkward, maybe with the exception of one of their pull down units. MTS Pulldown, I think? Its resistance curve was awesome, with constant tension throughout the ROM. It reminded me of some of the old Nautilus machines from the late 70s/early 80s.
Speaking of those...
I thought a few of them were gold. I trained almost exclusively on those for a six-month stint on a Mentzer routine when I was sixteen, and I got very muscular for my age, a fairly lean 170 at 5'6" (abs, very deep cuts in the pecs, slight feathering in the triceps, nice back detail). When the reigning Mr. NPC N.C. champ, Rodney Saunders, was training the same time I was, he asked me for a spot on something. When he found out I was only sixteen, he did a double take, shook his head and told me, "Damn. You must be blowing your boys away!"
Not blowing other boys, you salty pervs ;) It was a great compliment. And no, I don't credit Nautilus or Heavy Duty with my early gains (albeit the fact I had trained for 1.5 years previous). With the test my body was producing at that time, I'm sure I would've gained like crazy on anything that focused on strength gains/progressive overload.

But only that particular one, on Bob Chic's floor. It had "special" anabolic properties, endowed by the Grand Wizard of Schomedome, praise be to his holy high cringiness.

Would be 'biceps supinator' but ............. :P

Dont really have one (yet), but I bet this belt-squat machine would be it.
I'm doing them now with a hip belt, and 2 50 lb. kettlebells attached, standing on 2 50 lb. scale weights.
(Really love the movement, and no spinal compression).
Which is an obvious problem for me with degenerated and herniated disc's.
This move actually decompresses, by pulling down on the hips.
This machine would be much safer, easier to use and easier to add weight.

a good pull over machine

Classic, I think the one I seen was at a "24 hour nautilus" back when those existed

A couple I really like but don’t come across often is the nautilus overhead extension tricep machine.Marlboro golds gym in mass has one.Just a great movement.
Not sure of company but the standing shoulder lateral raise machine.
Lastly hammer strength wide grip chest press.

Two many to list. The Nautilus pull over is gold. The Nautilus 4 way neck machine is fantastic. The machine I use now on my leg day is incredibly effective. I have only seen ladies use it. I was curious. Damn I was breathing like a race horse after. It's like a one legged squat. I call it a kick back machine. It's brutal if you use a lot of plates and do a full range of motion.

that's for glutes isnt it, for some reason men think they dont need to work their glutes. i think in part it's tough because of how you have to lean over while using it

Glutes and legs. The glutes are pulling the femur hard in squats and deads. It is also a prime mover in sprints and jumps. This machine hits the glutes hard but the leg is bent in the beginning of the movement. Again, it feels like a one leg squat.

Anyone here ever use the Nautilus Duo Squat?
I mentioned earlier that I largely trained on old Nautilus equipment for a long stint. I set the seat so the cam would fully unwind and got to 6-8 reps per leg with the full stack. It was nasty. I never experienced such soreness and thigh growth since, but the machine probably cost me a half inch in height; the way it supported your spine basically crushed your shoulders down, and every time I used the thing, my traps were bruised the next day.

Many of his machines were great. Some of his machines were garbage. Those that idolize Jones will never admit this because they are blinded by their worship. Even his son Gary put out some garbage but some of his stuff was great. The older I get the more I think the highest tech is body weight exercises. This is coming from a guy that lifted weights for nearly 50 years.

Who can I sue to avenge the loss of my innocence?!!! ;D
James Brown was great! A real entertainer and one of a kind.

Agree. The lat pulldown machine is the best of all time.
The problem with chins and pull ups is that you have to use your entire body weight without proper warmup. Eventually you’re gonna tear something. The pulldown machine solves this problem. It also can be used for tricep push downs which IMO is the best direct triceps exercise. You even can use it for neck resistance.
