Title: The competition history of Rich Gaspari
Post by: Royalty on April 21, 2019, 11:52:43 PM
He was 2nd place at the 1986 Mr Olympia, 1987 Mr Olympia, 1988 Mr Olympia. He won the 1989 Arnold Classic.

Then his placings abruptly dropped. Eventually he was placing very low. I wonder what kept him motivated from 1991 through 1996?

Probably had to remain visible to build his supplement biz.

I don’t think that he had a supplement line at that time. I believe he was under contract with Weider.

Yes. It’s amazing to think that after 1991, he was unable to even QUALIFY for the Mr Olympia contest.

Impressive !

He was on the cover of first Muscle magazine I bought ............ In the late 80's he was very popular and likable guy .

Taking 4th place in 1989 had to be painful for him ,  given he was either winner or runner up all the time prior that... little did he know what the future had in store from then on ,  downhill .... interesting career though

WooosHHHHHHHHHHHH  Ta na ka

He was great until genetic freaks came along.

Can't say it was drugs. Look at Gaspari's head at the time, he was probably on more shit than most.

The genetic freaks came around 93' ... Gaspari started falling drastically fast by 1989 .  he was already 10th at the 91'Mr.O ! tore muscles was the main cause, and   insulin and GH came too late to add density to his already broken down frame

I'm going to say he  was all drugs, both him and Wheeler  , known for their extremely low BF and turning pro so young . only a fool would think otherwise

I don't believe that for a second. I wonder if he's even worth a million?  I met him at his prime. His sometimes training partner was a guy I worked with.  When I met him he was wearing shorts and his thighs looked like skinned dinosaur thighs.

S*#t!  That list shows Gaspari absolutely owning 1988!

Off to Google who was 1st at the British GP in '88...

Gaspari’s claim to fame was his peeled yet FULL and veiny musculature.

He pushed hard on the gas for too long and his body began to rebel.

His fullness began to disappear, shit started to tear here, there and everywhere, and his muscle bellies shortened ... and shortened ...

Eventually he was just a misshapen, gnarly-injured bag-o’-veins heap.

Yet he lost to them, and didn’t even place at the 1994 night of champions where priest and Nasser beat him  ::)

The 90’s were much more dominant than 80’s

Cormiers physique is ten times better than Gaspari

By 1994,

Gaspari could not hang with Porter Cottrell, Charles Clairemont, or pre-explosion Ronnie, or Munzer

Gaspari wasn’t even that old in 94, (30/31 years old) his body was burned out by then though

Wonder how his cycles looked, didn’t have the best genetics compared to many of the other guys

Gaspari got by on freaky conditioning and a fantastic lower body.

Once others were able to get close to that conditioning, with better overall structures, it was difficult for him to compete.

Rich Gaspari was awesome, awesome in his day.  25+ rows back and I could see the veins on his triceps in the late 80s.  He made the most of the least, not some genetically gifted slacker.  He earned it and dominated all but Haney.  Many, many far more genetically gifted people.  Based on this, not coming in with the genetic gifts of Arnold or Haney or others, but starting in a blocky hole, there is a very good case that he may be the best bodybuilder of all time.  He "built" the most with the least, and brought it when needed, on the day of the show.

That title goes to Dorian imo, he beat and won multiple O’s arguably against genetics and physiques better than his (according to him) flex, Kevin, Etc

But was Dorians genetics 100 times better than the great flex, Levrone, Ronnie, Dillett, Shawn, and the likes that he competed against?

I was trying to make a point that Dorian beat all those more gifted guys to win multiple O titles with his work ethic and no BS approach

Yes Dorian out Thought / Worked / Planned / Dieted Them.
Got to wonder just how good those others would’ve looked with the Attitude Dorian adopted.
