Title: Farmer Income Drops Most Since 2016 as Trade War Losses Mount
Post by: Straw Man on April 29, 2019, 04:51:47 PM
I thought trade wars trade wars are good and easy to win

Why are the tax payers giving any companies subsidies for the impact of the trade war
Aren't they already reaping huge benefits from the trade war without the rest of us needing the give them even more subsidies.

(Bloomberg) -- Personal income for farmers fell by the most in three years in the first quarter, as losses to U.S. agriculture mount from President Donald Trump’s trade wars.

The Commerce Department on Monday cited the steep decline in farm proprietors’ income as a key factor weighing on the nation’s overall personal income growth in March, even though agricultural producers represent only about 2 percent of total employed Americans.

The report provided fresh evidence of the growing financial strain on U.S. farmers hit by the trade war, low commodity prices and a series of natural disasters including spring floods in the Midwest. With rural voters a key part of Trump’s electoral coalition, it also underscores the political pressure to conclude the China trade war as U.S. negotiators begin another round of talks in Beijing this week.

One-time subsidy payments from the Trump administration to compensate producers for some of their trade-war losses helped prop up farm income in the previous quarter, but earnings plunged by an annualized $11.8 billion in the January to March period, according to seasonally adjusted data. On Monday, Larry Kudlow, President Trump’s top economic adviser, said the White House is prepared to do more to help agriculture.

Trump’s budget cuts would lower federal subsidies for crop insurance and small growers. The spending plan for 2020 he submitted for Congress would reduce subsidies for crop insurance premiums to 48 percent from 62 percent and limit current subsidies for growers who make less than $500,000 annually.

Thanks Trump ::)

good job ingnoring the first part of the sentence

Farmers were hit by the TRADE WAR along with low commodity prices (probably exacerbated by the trade war) and a serious of natural disasters (which would logically suggest prices should increase if inventories have been depleted)

You should really just shut your fucking mouth about farmers, and the midwest!  You know nothing about either!

The floods turned some towns into little fucking islands, and destroyed major roads.  You didn't see people flailing around like children, yelling, stomping, or demanding for the government to come in and save them.  People with their own small aircraft volunteered their choppers, planes, time, and fuel to fly people in and out to get what they needed and get them to safety.  They're getting government aid, but they got to work on their own, and with help from volunteers time and money right away.  Large local corporations shifted funds for an annual massive entertainment event to help out too, and everyone was cool with it being canceled.  Turns out the rest of the community helped so much monetarily, that it's back on.

That's how we roll in the midwest, and why complete pussies like you in whatever lame ass place you live will never understand what America is really about.  You just like to piss and moan without lifting a finger or using even one brain cell to solve any problems.  You think change comes from picket signs, rallies, protests, and breaking shit.  You're fucked if there is a civil war even if you're a gun owner, because your kind would not be welcomed and helped to survive off of the land.  Good riddance!

BTW, the crop insurance thing doesn't impact farms that provide for states or the nation.  It keeps the government from subsidizing the pot growers, pumpkin patches, and farmer's market type "farms" (read as people that own land, and like to plant and sell shit as a side hustle)  Those "farmers" don't need saving from devastation.  They just need to keep at their day jobs, and wait til next year or even just a few months depending on what happened.

Just cause you read shit, doesn't mean you know shit.  You clearly don't know shit!

Then why does Bloomberg cite that as a reason for the decline in income?
