Title: Kenny Rogers, The Gambler
Post by: Fallsview on May 13, 2019, 06:36:36 PM
While driving from Council Bluffs I hit on a station with a Kenny Rogers marathon. Can I tell you how impressed I was with his catalogue of music?  Islands In The Stream, The Gambler, Mr Tambourine Man, just to name a few. Made the drive all the way to Rodanthe worth it.

I would rate Kenny number 9 in the worlds best musicians.

Very good singer, started with the 1st Edition in 67. had hits like Somethings Burning.. Just Dropped in to see what condition my condition was in. Ruby, don't take your love to town. Only wrote a handful of songs but his strength besides having a good voice was great song selection. In the late 70's and early 80's he was selling out stadiums. What a catalog indeed.
The Gambler album was amazing and 2 hidden gems are a couple slow heart wrenching ballads,  "I wish that I could Hurt that Way Again" and "King of Oak Street". If you've never heard those before, you should give it a listen.

His Greatest Hits album is loaded with classics!  How about Scarlett Fever?  Nothing better than a country song about nailing a stripper. :D

Great record.  And possibly the most Quaaluded performance of that and in fact any song ever here - watch Kenny's head rolling and lip-licking... I love it!  8)

Good post. I would submit almost any Dr. Hook live video to dispute the most Quaalude performance though  :)
