Title: Apartment Gym
Post by: Powerlift66 on May 24, 2019, 04:33:19 AM
Back in 1989 when we got married and moved into an apartment, I chose a 2-BR one so I can have my gym stuff in its own room.
Moved my stuff out of "Moms Basement" which was 2 Olympic sets, a bunch of standard york sets, flat bench, squat stands, etc.

This would have been a nice addition, I may even add this to my gym now. Ghey guy not included...

Should be in everyone’s living room as a piece of art.

Does look kind of cool but there should be something to stabilize the hanging weights so the don’t bounce around.

prudence will take the guy and no homo but hes got a good build and if you bolt that shit to your wall you will need to take off sheet rock put in 2'' by 6'' supports on both sides no way bolting into 2''4'' will hold weight it will pull out.

The weight probably swings.

Could accomplish the same thing with a few bands.

.

This should give you an idea on the swing. I'd imaging it's a bit worse on a crossover because of the pattern of movement, weight involved, and the tendency to be a little jerky on them.

MPD approved as it's near impossible to work legs with that ;D

I had squat stands and squatted all the time, 2 Olympic sets and squat stands, all thats needed (had the bench attachment for leg curls/leg raise) and just did standing calf raises w/ squat bar.
Or did you mean the gadget in 1st post?? Yes, no legs needed for that thing, Joe Swanson approved...

Always had a home gym. When I built my house I had them build 9 foot ceilings so I could lift overhead.  I can do just about everything I do in a commercial gym at home but beginning to wonder if I really need all that crap.  The bodybuilding mentality says you have to do 3 to 4 different movements per body part.

When I down size out of this big house to a small one I'm going to have a minimalist gym. Maybe power blocks and with their bench. Add the chin and dip attachments. Another route is Iron Master bench and dumbbells.

After watching 2 friends with shitloads of iron in their house, pass away over the last couple of years, (and their families get stuck with 10 tons of weights to get rid of) it may me re-think.
Still have a great gym I can do everything in, I also sold four 300 lb. sets on Craigslist for 50.00 each. When the people were here for those weights, I gave so much crap away to them, from benches to squat stands to standard sets, etc.

We're planning a 7 year downsize project to sell this place and downsize. I just have 4000 Muscle Mags (schmoe) to get rid of now. ::)

^This. After years of doing all sorts of angles and exercises for different parts of the body I said screw it and adopted a minimalist routine- one exercise for chest, back, shoulders, bis, tris, calves, hams and thighs. I can’t tell a difference vs doing multiple exercises for each group. If you use cables for chest, for example, you can hit the chest every which way during the same set.

At home Ironmaster dumbells, a bench and a pull up / dips station are enough
Days you want variety you go to a commercial gym

Agreed. Multiple angles really do not make a difference. However, I incorporate multiple angles and different exercises just to stave off boredom.

Yes, home gyms are awesome if you have the motivation to lift on your own.  I've had a home gym since junior high school and prefer to that to a gym membership.  It's great lifting whenever you want without fighting traffic and waiting for someone to get done with a set.  For me I can concentrate more.

The best part is the music at home. It's always what I like.
