A little over 8000 shares...but only because I still have shares when I worked for Alltel years ago. However i only have access to a small portion..the rest I cannot get until I'm 65

I don't generally own more than 5% of any given company though and my long-term investing is in market indexes (Vanguard i.e. not individual stock).

It might not be enough for a comfortable retirement in the U.S. but I would not call it meaningless.
