I am off today and a door to door possible con man tried to get me to allow him to semi-repave my driveway with some kind of sealer, applied hot with some kind of machine...He wanted around 150 USD. I was sort of skeptical...I truthfully told him I didn't have the money...On me...
What is the typical charge to legitimately repave a driveway in Houston, TX?

Im not from Texas but A lot more than 150, the travellers over her do the same trick here pour a thin layer of tarmac over an existing damaged driveway and it peels up and looks shite in a few weeks. The only real way to repair a damaged driveway is to completely remove it and start from scratch.

Thanks.
In fact the situation was almost like a movie I have seen...It seemed like I have heard his speech before.

No probs mate been paving drives for 20 year or so and have pulled up many of them that have been patched or tried to resurface, driveways mostly fail due to inadequate sub base so anything other than digging them up is a waste of money

That’s pretty fucking cheap, here in mass average driveway to seal coat is 500.Was prob just gonna roll on some cheap ass black paint and screw.

My thought exactly...

Sounds like a gypsy paving scam, look up the term.

In fact there was an episode of "Law and Order" on this very subject...only it was about roofing...but the pitch was almost just like it.

Complete scam. They paint your driveway black essentially. Used to see it in upstate NY every summer.

Quality sealer alone from Home Depot will run about $120+ for a driveway.

He probably just wanted to seal the driveway. Somebody's driveway looks like doo doo. ;D

Henda is probably right.
Some guy's will pull up in a truck, knock on your door, and tell you that they just did a driveway job a couple of blocks from your house and had some paving patching compound left over. Didn't want to just throw away the patching compound, and wonder if you wanted your driveway patched and that it will last for years. And give you a great, hard to refuse price.
These are usually Irish Travelers (family gangs...like gypsy's). They move around the U.S. all the time pulling con jobs. They have their own sub culture since coming to America, probably a couple hundred years ago at lease. In the winter they head south. In summer back up to the other states. Not only con jobs, but can be in some heavy stuff also. Can be big on strong arm crimes, loan sharking, etc.
That patching compound they offer will be something like used motor oil or anything else that can cover up driveways, and appear to make it look new again. A good rain, or general wear, and it's all gone away..and your out money.

and there i was thinking that the best work is done by people knocking on my door, offering the lowest price...
