No.

He's on the sauce and that's the only supplement that makes a difference.

Total BS.

Of course, if he ditched every single one of those supplements, it wouldn't matter, as he is on gear. The supplements wont make a difference.

But, I guess he has to make a living.

Do you guys believe in the health benefits of fish oil? It's quite expensive but I have been taking it for a few years. I wonder if it's a scam or legit.

Assuming the price kept going up and up and up, at what price would you ditch it?

It's a complicated question and for sure context dependent. Let's say someone is doing a chicken and rice diet with little fat overall. Then adding 3-6 grams a day of EPA/DHA should make sense since they're essential, after all. It's like vitamin supps, "you don't need it if you eat reasonably well" they say, but context...
Fish oil is actually a potent 'drug' almost and megadosing can lead to serious sides or if on certain drugs and so on. "Discontinue before surgery."

I used to take a boatload of health supps years ago: Fish Oil, Krill Oil, Olive Leaf Extract, CQ10, Brewers Yeast, Pine Bark Extract, Greens/Reds Powders, Multi, and many others.

I eventually stopped and my health is fine. My blood work is always good.

I refuse to believe that any health supplement that sits in a bottle on the shelf does anything positive for you. If any of this stuff worked like they claim, no one would be on meds.

FINAL VERDICT: SCAM

Thanks for your response. So your LDL/HDL did not get worse after quitting fish oils?

My cholesterol is the best it has ever been during my last bloods and I am wondering if it's through the grace of fish oil or not. It's truly impeccable and I eat tons of animal fat so the "animal fat bad" theory is debunked

But maybe its the fish oil ?

I've always had good cholesterol and have always ate well. So I never had to worry about improving it. Was never a concern for me. I think you found a diet that works for you. And if you've been eating well I think that is what made your cholesterol improve.

Probably eating well and no gear anymore. But not sure how much the fish oil helped

I feel that eating well and no gear is what helped your cholesterol improve. But if you're able to afford the fish oil, you feel good physically taking it...and you feel mentally happy taking it...then continue to do so. Just make sure it's a high quality fish oil and not toxic cheap sourced.
But just stop and think. Bad cholesterol is a serious life threatening condition. People spend years trying to improve it. Do you honestly think a few small pills from a plastic bottle that have been sitting on the shelves for months is really powerful enough to do anything significant? That's why I don't take any health supps anymore.

Like I said fish oil is powerful enough to where you're recommended to get off it before surgery. Also large doses can play havoc with the inflammatory system. Fish oil can even cause palpitations in some. Too lazy to look it up but there's an Rx pharma DHA I think it was for some cardio related issue. The supp-food-drug distinctions aren't that black and white. Recently docs thought maybe my vitamin D supplementation was shutting down my kidneys. Wasn't likely the culprit but 'supps' can be plenty powerful.

Depends on what you define as significant.  It could (and I stress could because I have no idea) greatly enhance your later life to have provided your body with key vitamins, throughout your life.

IE, I think long term is really only where you might see benefits.  Maybe you were sick just a few times less.  Maybe your joints are just a bit better than they could have been.  Maybe your bones are a bit stronger.

If someone is expecting to pop a vitamin c and suddenly feel twice as good, yeah - definitely barking up the wrong tree.

All maybes though - and I couldn't blame anybody for not getting involved.  I've been taking fish oil for 20 years.  I can't swim any better, fucking ripoff.

I had these 17K caps which were supposed to be taken once every 3 weeks or whatever. I took one a day for a few weeks, then every other day for a few and then a couple of times a week. Kind of a haphazard way of doing it; ideally you'd do blood work to see where you're at and sites on the net say you should do bloods if taking more than 4K a week, while some say 10K should generally be safe. But I started that bottle a year ago maybe and haven't taken any for months but as my calcium levels were sky high I mentioned taking vitamin D a while back. Doc said you don't "need more than 3K a day if it's the active form" and I said it was cholecalciferol but he didn't know that was D3, active. And in any case I think he just pulled the 3K figure out of his ass as that too is more than "recommended" plus they don't even go by IUs here but mcgs.

I'm using Vitamin D3 1000 IU daily, seems to be within the recommended amounts from what I've read.

And Palumbo has said you'd have to be an idiot not to take high doses of fish oil and vitamin D so it checks out. Safest is probably a balanced diet and no supplements at all.

You need to take vitamin K2 (menaquinone-7) alongside D3 to make sure calcium goes to the right places like your bones, otherwise you can have issues with calcium going places it shouldn't like your organs
