Ive heard of this cult movie that was released sometime in the early to mid 80's, which had real footage of people being killed in gruesome ways ie mauled to death by a lion, drownings, car crashes
never saw it because it was banned apparently- too hardcore/extreme
anyone verify its existence/seen it?
-
Yes it was pretty gruesome (saw it as a kid had all kinds of real death filmed ... things like people cracking a live monkeys head open and eating the brains to a sky diver who’s friends filmed him landing into an alligator pit and they tore him to pieces as he screamed ... was pretty disturbing stufff!)
-
hey thanks for the info Mike
just checked IMDB
apparently most of it is fake

R. Budd Dwyer.

This flick series was an urban myth in my eighties existence.
It was always, Such-and-such saw it and says it’s totally real!
From what I now understand, the movie’s feature some genuine deaths ... but a tonne of fake stuff.
Correct me if I’m wrong.
Either way, I have zero interest to view such material. Several years ago I gave in to curiosity and clicked a link to a scene in which two sad buggers had their noggins removed from their bodies. One with a chainsaw and the other with a knife.
I felt rattled and a serious soul suppression for a day or two.
A horror the likes of which only serves to permanently damage one’s spirit.
-
It was rather lame.
Compared to the stuff you can view on YouTube and Live Leak, Faces of Death is pretty tame.
-
It's fake scenes, mixed with b roll and outtakes from news stories, foreign news sources, old educational films, etc..... that could be bought cheap. Most of the "real" 80's gore films are all like that.

I remember as a kid when my parents went out of town and my uncle looked after us that he let me rent it from the local video store. It was disappointing even then to an 11 year old.
-
I was born in 1983 and had an older brother - so the late 1980s and early 1990s you were special if you happened to view one
same with playboy magazines. hard to come by. usually someone's dad had them - hidden away in the basement
-
I never head of that movie but the one movie that really fooked me up was the original movie with Vincent Price called "THE FLY" in which the very last scene showed the head of Vincent Price on the body of a fly ... caught in a spider's web ... while the spider slowly moved towrds him .... as he 'squeeked' in somewhat of a flie's voice, "Help me! Help me!"
And then it Cut to Black!

Hostel fucked me up since that shit is real. eastern europe is creepy as fuck -

Similar story. My buddies mom let us rent it in middle school. We rented two of those movies (produced by Francis B Gross ::)) and one called “The Many Faces Of Death” which was mostly foreign news stuff. I remember a dude who’s head was run over by a bus in India I think. Either way, I think most of it was fake, but like Arvilla said, I do remember the monkey brain thing.
Could have done without watching, much like the dude getting his head cut off by terrorists n the early 2000’s. Really wished I hadn’t watched that.

saw that to, but how could the monkey brain thing be faked ? that was real.
-
TRES, HOSTEL!! .... That was one hell of a sick movie but I was old (ancient) enough to appreciate what the writer, director, cast, and crew intended to accomplish and was successful in getting it on screen as the screen-writer intended .... which is almost impossible to accomplish to get an audiance to shit in their knickers!
-

They explain how it was faked here -
.
One of the US cable networks (AMC) had a show on the film a few years ago, where they explained how many scenes were done. The famous electric chair scene is just a guy with Alka Seltzer and toothpaste in his mouth too.

thank god it was fake..humans suck..

i saw this back in 1986. I rented it from a video store. I had to ask for the video from the clerk. He
then allowed me to rent it.

Here's the creator with his wife:
I bought his autobiography off of Amazon a few years ago. When he and his brother James - a.k.a. "Dr. Louis Flellis," the host of the fourth film - would misbehave as kids, their father would lock them in an old coffin he kept in the attic. It was inevitable.

Saw it when I was a kid. Very disturbing

One of the videos showed a guy being quartered. That was rough.

Buddy and I built a half pipe for skateboarding...we were 15 and watched faces of death on a little VCR/TV combo with a couple girls from the neighborhood....camped out on sleeping bags on the half pipe. I remember the monkey scene. Used to ride bikes for miles to get to this little video store to rent slasher films. Late 80s just before internet ruined everything, haha.

Already at a tender age of 8, Taco found his calling to chase cougars ( pellets or no pellets ), and we have Freddie to thank for that.

Fake or not I really hate this shit.
And really can't understand why people are so attracted by gore and cruelty, even on WhatsApp chat people are exchanging snuff shit.
Really makes you understand human nature unfortunately
-
Heard about how gruesome it was as a kid but didn't see it. Years later saw it on Youtube and it was o.k. but not as bad as I thought it would be. After seeing Cannibal Holocaust, The Green Inferno, The Human Centipede I-III, Salo (120 Days of Sodom), I Spit on Your Grave, Meghan is Missing, etc, etc, it takes a lot to disturb me.
-
Haven't seen it but will check it out. I remember watching Cannibal Holocaust when I was around 12 and being disturbed by that.
As SF1900 has said though, the internet as desensitized us to horror films. Watching real horror is only a few clicks away. I was a teenager and remember getting pretty spooked when I saw stuff like 3 men and a hammer and Daniel Pearl's beheading. Now, videos such as those won't have the same impact.

Cause people are really fucked up individuals
Looks at all the murderers, serial killers, terrorists/drug cartels cutting off people’s heads, gutting out little kids while the father is forced to watch
Senseless
People should all go extinct

There was also “Traces of Death.”

Anyone seen the Guinea Pig film series from Japan? During the 90's, Charlie Sheen saw one of the films in the series and contacted the FBI believing it was a genuine snuff film.
I saw all the films a few years back. Most are quite silly but well made.
-
There was FOD 1 & 2 and they used to fly off the VHS rental shelves.

.
Here's the English dub of Unit 731: The Men Behind The Sun for those that want to see it with no hunting around.

Yes. Most old horror suffers from HD, and modern high quality viewing devices, but these were pretty well done for lower budget 80's - early 90's films. The one I remember the most was "Mermaid in A Manhole" -
.
I remember it was in the coming attractions in front of a Sonny Chiba action film, and that pairing bugged me out the rest of the night.
You can find most of them on Youtube and Dailymotion now, and that's a good way to view them, as lot of old Japanese and Italian horror is more scene viewing, than actual film watching :).

I saw some of those. Most of the content was laughably fake, like the monkey brains sequence and that hilarious giant leech thing. If you're after real nastiness, to go realgore dot com. It's fucked up.

What exactly is going on in the mermaid scene?

What exactly is going on in the mermaid scene?
It's been a while, since I've seen it, but from what I remember it's about an artist that spends time in the sewers under Japan to get away from people. One day he's down there and finds a mermaid that he brings home, and tries to keep her, but she starts to rot. The rest of the film is him making "art" from pieces of her before she dies, and trying to keep it secret from the neighbors.
It's not a prize winner, more a "WTF is happening?" 1 watch type thing.
-
This.

You know, you can watch videos and movies of people doing good, right?
-
I ended up seeing Faces of Death yesterday. It was tame overall and as others have pointed out, most scenes were clearly fake to the point that it surprises me anyone could think otherwise. I suppose it came out during a time when the public was more sincere. By adding some occasional real footage (such as from the abattoir), the producers also blurred the lines between what was genuine or not. An interesting and quite enjoyable film regardless.

Yes, that's an accurate summary of the episode. Nothing to dissimilar to what you'd expect from The Twilight Zone of The Outer Limits but more gory.
The later episodes from the Guinea Pig series including Mermaid in a Manhole were more fictitious but the earlier ones attempted to be more authentic. It was the episode "Flower of Flesh and Blood" which Charlie Sheen thought was a real homicide. The episode is of a man kidnapping and dismembering a woman.

I can only remember Android Of Notre Dame or something... could be that I'm mixing things up of course.

Yes. It exists.I dont remember it really well since the last time I saw was 30 plus years ago. If I remember It was fairly gruesome despite grainy footage. I think it showed the Mancini Duk Koo Kim fight. Also remember some villagers eating the brains out of a live monkey. torturing the poor animal. It's been forever since I've seen it.it was pre internet so its probably aged poorly and lame by today's standards. I've seen worse shit posted on here though. Nothing is as fucking disgusting as those ISIS or Cartel executions.

My grandpa was in Greece during WWII, never talked about things he saw there but told me only men that never been on the battlefield love war (and gore/sadistic shit). Guess he was right. Too many PlayStation warriors today...
