So true. You know, it's funny because I don't think I've ever seen or heard anyone say the mass game is better. How the organizations haven't figured this out yet boggles my mind.

1980
-
1968 I believe.

I was just thinking yesterday(no homo) of why don’t we ever hear about the dominant Zane years in regards to the competition? I honestly have no idea who came in the top 5 for those years, and never see anyone talk about it. Kind of like the Bannout and Dickerson Olympias. All we hear about is Sergio vs. Arnold, Arnold vs. Nubret/Louie, and Arnold vs. Mentzer and the gang.
Always liked this scene from “The Comeback”.
-
1979?
-
1972? Intentionally down in body weight.
-
Again looking light off season with Betty Weider. Around 1975 weighing 180lbs?
-
One of the best vacuums in the game.

1980 was a BAD year for him as he was injured.
-
1972? Intentionally down in body weight.
Late seventies in Sydney. Robert Nailon took the photo.

Happy Birthday Frank - sorry I never did get around to ordering that Leg Blaster[TM] from you
I rarely participate in a Zane thread, as I must confess to never really being much of a fan. So while I'm here would somebody please be kind enough to explain to me the origin of Zane's nickname, "The Chemist"?
Was it because:
a. He was an expert in the use of the usual performance enhancing drugs that were available at the time
b. He was able to theorise about the 'off-label' use of pharmaceuticals to get the anabolic effect
Or:
C. Neither - it was just because he had to take a lot more sh1t than the others to get results ;D

It could be because he has a Master's degree in chemistry.

It was because he was a chemistry teacher and he also had the ability to get into shape very fast before a contest. Jerry Brainum told me he saw Zane at the gym with only weeks to go until a contest and he was both smooth and small. He didn't think Zane was even going to compete because he looked so bad. He said Zane disappeared for a few weeks and when he saw him again, he was bigger and very ripped. Unbelievable transformation.

Soooo.... what you're both trying to say is that it was because he actually was a Chemist! Hahahahaa! ;D For some reason that explanation never even crossed my mind!
Thanks both 8)

Or because he knew his cocktails and cycles very well
-
I believe Frank was named the Chemist because of his knowledge of what to take and do to get conditioned for contests. Other people were experts in anabolic steroids.
-
He was called the chemist because he was an expert on the use of vitamins, minerals and herbs.
some say frank zane was the first to realise the power of combining zinc and magnesium together.
-
zane had a great build/look i,there are different versions of zanr the 60's version was pretty thick built 'for him'larger legs and arms as well but condition which for him later would be deemed 'off'but at that time he was ahead of the pack, then the early 70's he started to morph into the classic zane,by 77 to 79 was freaky condition he made famous,80's version he was older looking in the last few mro's still looked good had that mature muscle look 'drugged',,a legend...
-
who was the guy that said, "I don't want them frank zane legs"? I think it was during a workout video.
I wonder if the guy is still alive or still in shape
-
how can he be 77 years old if he did steroids ???

-

Low doses.
Didn't go insane.
Probably mostly relied on Deca.
Anavar to cut.

No. I’m just a fan of pencil-thin stached bass players who start drug labs to help athletes dope their way to success! Whatever it takes, Wes!!!!!!!!111111

Anybody who would call Zane "small" is seriously out of touch. He had a lot of muscle, and he presented it on stage without an ounce of extra fat/water to obscure it.
I think most anyone today would have trouble reaching that level of muscularity and conditioning, even with an all-you-can-eat hormone buffet (no gh though).

Yep, I don't see a lot of Zane's walking around.

For 13 years, he taught mathematics and chemistry while living in Florida and California. He also taught mathematics at Watchung Hills Regional High School for two years. He earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Cal State LA in 1977. He was awarded a master's degree in experimental psychology from CSUSB in 1990.

Always felt Chet Yorton in the same drugs as Arnold , Frank and Sergio would have been unbeatable . It was obvious he came LATE to the "drug game" and was basically on nothing when he beat Arnold .
WoooSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
