Title: Plastic Bags: ARE THEY REALLY THAT BAD?
Post by: Fallsview on July 04, 2019, 10:47:31 AM
Goodmorrow,

It seems like the liberal media is launching an attack on plastic bags. This morning I was in a Rite Aid and bought a case of Corona, some packs of gum, a bottle of Protein, six bags of different chips including tortilla.

Cashier: Do you need a bag?

Me: Are you going to help me carry it out to my car?

Cashier: Giggles and says no

Me: Do you want me to balance it on my head?

Casher: Giggles

Me: Of course I need a bag.

Here is the question: Why all of sudden are plastic bags bad? There has to be some different hidden motive behind this. California dumps fecal matter into the oceans each day but straws and plastic bags thats a no no.

We drive on tires that put on 2 billion tons of specks of rubber into our water ways but no one talks about that.

What am I missing?

STAY POSITVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We do a lot of hikeing in the High Sierra  and always walk out with many pounds of crap (beer cans, bottles, plastic bags, etc.) that we find anywhere on or off the trail and at the bottom of the many lakes we come across.

Many times we start our hikes without the required permit and get stopped along the trail, but once the ranger sees our packs full of shit .. he sends us on our way with a hearty, 'Thanks!'.

It's difficult to believe what park visitors do to fuck up some beautiful scenery.

Any GetBigger familiar with the PCT?

Or the High Sierra surrounding Lake Tahoe?

Plastic bags are 1000% better for the environment than any other type of bag.

Rubbish, plastic bags take much longer to disintegrate than paper bag.

Those in the nuclear industry will tell you nuke power is cleaner than fossil fuels.

Tell that to the people from Chernobyl and Fukushima.

Tell that to the people from Chernobyl and Fukushima.

That would be like asking the survivors of a plane crash what they think of air travel.

“By contrast, in 60 years of nuclear power, only three accidents have raised public alarm:
Three Mile Island in 1979, which killed no one; Fukushima in 2011, which killed no one
(many deaths resulted from the tsunami and some from a panicked evacuation near the
plant); and Chernobyl in 1986, the result of extraordinary Soviet bungling, which killed 31
in the accident and perhaps several thousand from cancer, around the same number killed
by coal emissions every day.
(Even if we accepted recent claims that Soviet and international
authorities covered up tens of thousands of Chernobyl deaths, the death toll from 60 years of
nuclear power would still equal about one month of coal-related deaths.)”

A picture  is worth ....

A truly disgusting sight.

90% of ocean plastic pollution come from just 10 rivers: 8 in Asia, and two in Africa.
I'm going by memory here, but I recall that the US produces 2% of ocean plastic pollution.

This is correct...

Nothing will change until Asia decides it wants to stop pollution.

Cali banning straws may feel good to some but it actually doesn't put a dent in the actual problem

banning plastic bags is a "low hanging fruit", it should be done, a good start.

Wild.  Collecting sea glass is a hobby for some people where I live.

Read about this.  A lot of cleanup was done on these beaches however to remove trash, junk, etc.

While I was wrirting rthe above ... we had a small south to north quake here in LV.

The living room moved slightly in a northern direction but the dogs did nothing at all.

Nature is cool providing no one is hurt nor damage made.

Back to those glass beach photos .... Years ago Las Vegas visitors used to throw their alcohol multiple of multiple colors  out the car window on their drive back home and over the years the sand and the wind made them look like colorful jewels.

Looked for them recently  but it appears that the samd cocvered them up.
