Cruise is a batshit crazy Scientologist.
He isa true professionalbought and paid for and that's why he keeps getting loads of work even though his acting is not on an elite level. I find most of his movies boring and as if he plays the same character in every movie. When I see him on screen he comes across as Tom Cruise and not as the character he is playing. His real life character is much more interesting than anyone he plays on the silver screen.
Maybe he is bought and paid for (whatever that means) but he has an incredible work ethic going from film to film with almost no time off between movies. Not many are willing to do that. He is also very easy to work with with no diva complex or uppity attitude. He is also very friendly to everyone on and off set.

His movies fucking suck unless you grew up watching his bullshit flicks as a kid.....which I did not.

I guess I have a different take. I find his movies are always worth seeing. Very few bombs. Most are a fun time and you never left the movies thinking I should have stayed home.
Tom starred in several major movies that were considered theatrical successes. But even if you don’t like those early/mid 80’s movies, look at this list:There`s 4-5 in there that I actually liked a lot.
Magnolia
Minority Report
Eyes Wide Shut
A few Good Men
Tropic Thunder
Collateral
The Firm
Rain Man
Born on The Fourth of July
Last Samurai
Vanilla Sky
Far and Away
Jerry Maguire
Can you honestly say that he wasn’t at least ‘good’ in those movies?

I can't wait for this movie to come out. When the original Top Gun was released, it made practically every guy I knew want to become a fighter pilot. It was a great moving for the time in which it was released (1986). Shit, I remember wanting to move out to San Diego to be able to live the way in which the movie portrayed folks (by the beach, in great weather, riding motorcycles etc).
A truly iconic piece of 1980's cinematography.

Handsome classic leading man with real acting skills.
BUT, he's heavily into Scientology and rather wacky values in his personal life.
Obviously I've never met the man, but his dedication to Scientology dogma is public knowledge.
