A New York City social worker has been charged with two counts of manslaughter after his one-year-old twins were found dead in the backseat of his car.
Juan Rodriguez was also charged with two counts of criminally negligent homicide over the deaths of daughter Mariza and son Phoenix after he accidentally left them inside his hot vehicle for eight hours on Friday.
Rodriguez, 39, is reported to have parked his Honda Accord in The Bronx around 8am, before heading off to work at a nearby Veterans Association hospital.
He returned to his vehicle at 4pm and began driving off, before realizing that his twins were on the backseat.
The babies were dead and 'foaming at the mouth', according to The New York Post.

This is such a needless tragedy but apparently fairly common seeing now some car manufacturers are putting in technology to alert adults there are still children in the car.

It seems like it happens way more often than people realize.
I am a very forgetful person, but it seems very hard that someone would forget their two children. Then again, I am not a parent, so I guess it's entirely plausible. Either way, I am glad to hear that car manufactures are investing in this technology.

Sounds fishy to me too. I just can't see leaving two kids, probably in bulky car seats, in the back without noticing. It would be interesting to see the questioning and learn some more of the backstory behind this.

Very sad. Cannot imagine how Mr. Rodriguez is going to be able to live with this for the rest of his life. Honestly, how distracted can people be that they would not know their kids were in the car?

I read the thread title and thought to myself, "A hundred bucks says he's not black!" :)

Probably Mojican/Mexican/Mohican/Mojito.

Absolute fucking moron how is this even possible nobody forgets you are looking after a kid let alone 2. Most likely done on purpose
-
Social workers ,eh? ::)
Wonder if dad had been smoking pot or taking drugs of some sort (if this wasn't deliberate and he did indeed "forgot").
-
True story
My thoughts as well. I don't have kids, and even I can't imagine forgetting two of the little bastards in the backseat of your car. The fucker probably just wanted to get rid of them, and figured this was the easiest way possible, and with the least penalties.

If either rear door to my truck is opened, the next time the truck is turned off an alarm sounds and it flashes "check rear seat" across the dash.

That would get really annoying. Is there a way to disable it? ???

Only in a litigious society would you need an alarm to remind you about leaving people in a car. Coffee is hot, etc.
-
That is horrible.I still just don’t see how this happens.I would and never have forgotten.I constantly look in my rear view at my kids asleep or awake but mainly asleep cause I’m well aware they are there when awake.

Why are you planning on leaving an infant in your backseat for an 8 hour stretch and need an excuse?
In all seriousness this is horrible and its the second time I've heard of this happening. Didnt someone here post about a dad forgetting about his kid in the carseat and went into work? Apparently he didnt usually take the baby into daycare, and he forgot the baby was in the car.
Tragic story. This guy will have to live the rest of his life knowing he was responsible for the death of his children because he was careless.
You would hope he would have remembered at some point in his day.

You might be thinking of this story from 16 years ago:

NY Post article on the current event states that this happened 52 times last year:

You have to be a deadbeat parent/drugaddict. Impossible otherwise.
-
there is no way a parent forgets his own son in the car, not one but two
a planned murder

I had a coworker who had bipolar disorder (or something similar) and was on meds. He forgot important stuff all the freaking time.
If this guy didn't kill his children on purpose, then I guess there's something very wrong with him.

This - so in 8hrs he never once thought about his Children pr remembered that he had put them in car / who was meant to be looking after them if he was at work all why didn’t they contact him to the wereabouts of the children / didn’t his wife think where are the kids.
Story sounds dodgy.
He dropped one child off then forgot the other 2 ::)
I Don’t believe that.

There are millions of young children being driven daily to daycare, nursery or school in the US
The probability of an event like this happening by accident-as a result of an unfortunate sequence of events - with time, must be approaching 1.
Not saying this here wasn't deliberate ,mind . Clearly, the father has some questions to answer.
-
IN THE BRONX and no one passing by noticed these kids shit ny streets are never empty

he's on suicide watch i dont think he's long for this world

True, there has always been chance misfortune and misery of circumstance - we just never had instant global coverage for the thoughts and prayers people.
-
Zero chance this was an accident. As a father of several kids I can tell you that they never shut up, especially when they’re in the backseat. 3...2...1 until his affair and plan to leave his wife is exposed for all to see.

This^
Saw an ID Channel special on a similar story, guy went to prison.
Even showed him at lunch time on video, stopping at the car (went out to lunch w/ his buddy) and throwing a bag (shit he bought at lunch) in the back seat near the kid, and then going back into work for the rest of the day.

Have you considered becoming a homicide detective?

Prime how often did you forget your kids in the car?

It happens a lot. It's tragic, but I have two young kids and can easily see how something like this happens. My wife worked part time when our daughter (our oldest) was born, but she went back to full time after our son was born and our morning routines were so rushed that we ended up getting a nanny. I can totally see having two silent little meat sacks in the back and not being quite sure if you dropped them off at daycare or not, because it's the same shit you do day after day. Almost every parent I know has had some experience where they lost track of a kid, but most of those stories are humorous. Obviously, you can infer that I'm a negligent parent from this, but most people who know me in real life would probably describe me as closer to overprotective.

Never.

most people are already on autopilot, when you factor in having 2 1 year olds mean he's prob hella sleep deprived on top of it
