Who are they? I don't sanction criminals, gangs and the cartel entering the U.S. whether legally or illegally. We have enough problems with violence and substance abuse already (this includes big Pharma and opiates).

2. Decriminalizing illegal border crossings.
3. healthcare for illegals
4. "catch and release" instead of holding illegal border crossers.
What would these policies encourage? Massive illegal immigration. A virtually open border policy.

Since I am one of 'they' them, I can say that although I am not opposed to border barriers, I'm not convinced Trump's wall will be as effective as some hope. Anyone who breaks the law is a criminal. Doing something illegal is breaking the law. Illegal immigrants can get healthcare now....in any hospital emergency room according to EMTALA rules which were enacted in 1986. However, this rule remains unfunded. It seems to me we could transport illegal immigrants back across the border instead of locking them up. I'm in favor of whatever is less expensive and most effective.
People all over the world are looking for a better life. It is human nature. America has been billed as the land of opportunity since it's founding. I'm not sure the opportunities here are a abundant as in previous times. It is not unheard of for immigrants, both legal and illegal to return to their native country once they realize things are not as they hoped they would be. My late wife and I moved to Canada in the early 70's to homestead. After less than 9 months, we knew we'd made a mistake and we moved back to Portland.

I think a wall would be effective based on their effectiveness around the world. It wouldn't end all illegal crossings, but i think it would squeeze the flow of illegals crossing down to a more manageable trickle. Yes, illegals can go to emergency rooms and get emergency care for free. Promising them healthcare is even worse. I think most rational people think offering illegal immigrants free healthcare is insane. Most probably aren't even aware of the massive amount of money that is spent on their emergency room visits. Trump would love to just transport them back across the border but we can't. A lot of them are from countries other then Mexico. Then you have all the asylum fraud which is basically illegals using our system against us. Under Obama, they were released into the US and given a court date. The courts are so backed up with cases it could be months before they get a hearing and even then, the majority never show up for them. So we're holding them but without a physical barrier, they just keep coming and overload out detention centers/courts. It's a really bad situation that could be remedied but things are so partisan now, we're screwed.
