Social engineering has always been there.
All In The Family had the Jeffersons. Archie was the racist white guy. Mike and Lionel represented cultural acceptance.
Room 222, Mod Squad, etc. back in the 60s & 70s.

Homosexuality was presented positively on TV back in the 90s.

Meathead, married to Archie's daughter Gloria, would come out as bi-sexual with a gay Lionel as his boyfriend. Gloria would accept this and eventually transgender to a gay man and the three would live together in a polyamorous lifestyle.
Edith would become a hot-wife and make Archie invite George Jefferson over to have sex with her while he watches.
Archie would convert to Islam and be a Democratic-Socialist. AOC would visit their home in Queens as a special guest star in an episode.
