Sorry bro. The only thing worse in life than losing a dog is losing a child. Hug your kids extra tonight and my condolences on your dog.

If the boys can be there, have them come along too. It's a horrible thing to do, but I always felt better afterward when I was able to see them off.

Been there, sucks. Just make sure you’re in there with her when she gets the injection. Don’t leave her alone with the vet. She deserves you comforting her in her last moments. Brings tears to my fucking eyes just thinking of our dog and it’s been 6 years now.

Absolutely. Condolences. 15 years is a great life for a larger dog.

Sorry to hear that.My last dog I put down about 6 years ago and the day of I got him some cheeseburgers at McDonald’s with fries and nuggets and he loved it.The vet didn’t want me to hold him when they injected him but I made sure I held him when he took his last breath.sad times indeed.Wish you and the family the best.

That’s rough. 2007, last time I cried like a bitch, put my 13yr old English Bulldog to sleep.

Wish I wouldn't have clicked.  This thread makes me want to cry. My condolences.  You are doing the right thing as painful as it is.

May sound weird but as my dog was injected I held her eyelid open hoping she knew I was there.

Sorry to hear that brother. Losing a pet is tough especially one that’s been in the family that long.

As taught me by my mother, it is no mistake that the animal that loves us so unconditionally should be "god" spelled backwards.  Yes, I am now an Atheist but never shall I be an assholist.

I am sorry for you loss, sir.

Hate when you guys get all serious with this. Getting all choked up was not in the cards when I came here just now.

Speedy recovery for you and your family. Tough loss.

DAN, Please accept my condolances also.

When it comes to animals of any type, I'm too damn sentimental.

Animals ( dogs, cats, birds, etc,) should be made to outlast their owners

Give another dog a good life ASAP by bringing him into your home.

So sorry to hear this Dan.   :'(  I know it's probably too late since everything is in motion, but it's definitely worth considering in home euthanasia.  Yes, it costs more, but the comfort of your fur baby and family being at home vs the long anxiety ridden ride and the cold  medicinal vet office environment is worth it.

I held my last Bostin as she took her last breath and can't believe the one I have now is 12.

Dogs are better than people..sorry for your loss.

A message to Dan from a long time member who is banned.

Sorry, Bud. I know this might sound terrible, but you should get a puppy right away. Your kids will mourn, but they are young enough to except a new baby to the family.

:'( damn had her 15 years my boys were 3 and 5 putting her to sleep tomorrow.....

Heartbreaking.

Last time I cried & Cried was carrying my 13yr old Dalmatian into the vets
For that injection - I stayed with her & held her paws & stroked her.
She went ever so Peacefully.
So Miss Her - Completely destroyed me, was harder than I could’ve ever of expected.

Now we have a Fantastic Pure White American Akita ( rescue dog - 2 days away from his
Putting down )  No he doesn’t replace my suki - He’s his own Character & Lovely lovely dog
We’re so fortunate to own Him.

Thanks my getbig family and yes I have no intention of leaving the room I had bella when she was 8 months old until now she used to always take naps with me when I would lay a blanket on the couch she would sit and wait and as soon as I would lay down she would jump up an lay right next to me with her head on my shoulder.....

And I have no intention of getting a new dog I believe a dog picks you not the other way around my boys are 16 and 19 and bella is the only pet they have ever known she had a bed in both of there rooms...

Sorry to hear this, man. Super hard decision to have to make.

I knew a heart surgeon who dealt with life and death every day. When he had to make the decision to put down his dog he was crying like a baby.

Well I can tell you exactly why because our pets don't judge us or tell us when we  are right or wrong they just want one thing.
To be loved they gives us more than we every give them
