SF, I've carried a 45 for the majority of my life-time and I'd like to recommend that you check out a good number of CONCEALED CARRY sites before you purchase your first 'handgun' ..... and in the rare event that you plan to eventually use it for self-protection, I sincerely recommend that you check out the CC insurance policies which are available.
Also ... Check out the CC requirements which are set by law within your home state.
And NEVER carry any fire-arm when you leave the house with the intent to go out drinking and raising hell.
I realize that this is basic advice ... but important nonetheless!
OK ... Home protection laws are somewhat different within each state, so get familiar with those laws and learn when you have the 'right' to shoot a home intruder between the eyeballs or give him a seond chance by shooting one of his knee-caps off.
It appears that your friend will be knowledgeable enough to give you some damn good advice.
Last comment ....Lock up your weapon at home so that your kids, friends, etc. don't have a snowball's chance in hell to get their hands on it!
The first thing I get is a lock box for the gun. 👍👍Liberty safes has some awesome safes for under the bed.
Carried a gun legally for over 35 years. Legally allowed to carry in 50 states. I went through a lot different guns from Sig, Glock and Koch. I always return to a revolver. One thing I noticed through the years is that the average gun enthusiast is a really bad shot during non stress target shooting. In real life the target is moving, possibly you are moving and the target can kill you. It makes for a difficult target acquisition. One thing for sure. If you are a good shot with a .22 long rifle you will be a good shot with just about any caliber. It's all the same skill set.Totally agree on revolvers.
A couple of safety reminders.
A gun is always loaded even if you checked it hundred times. This will keep you from pointing it in the direction of somebody or your person. A good practice is to pretend a laser is coming out of the barrel to make you aware of where that gun is pointed. Keep your finger off the trigger until you want to fire a firearm. You finger only goes on the trigger when you want to fire it. At the range the muzzle is always down range. Don't wave that business end in the direction of anyone. Always down range.
If you keep your gun locked up in a safe at home good luck getting to it quickly in a home invasion or any other scenario where immediacy is required.
However, if you are only prepping for the complete breakdown and utter lawlessness of the apocalypse then you'll have time to get it out.
My main goal is to leave it at home for protection.
My girlfriends uncle is part of the NRA and an approved and licensed trainer, etc. I plan to meet up with him in the next few weeks.
I’ve been shooting for the last 5-8 years with some friends back in my home state. Just never actually owned my own handgun.
Are you two ever going to go “camping”?
Huh ??? ???
You’re becoming very manly. I assumed that was natural progression after buying guns.
Liberals enjoy and own guns. They just don't want everyone else to own one.
Remember when _aj_ was telling everyone about his gunfights? The ones where nobody actually used a gun.

Nothing sad about it. SF will own a handgun, no big deal. He's not a gun nut, and wont become one.
I own 9 guns (all different models for different kinds of range practice) and I'm not a gun nut. Havent been to the range in 6 months.
Not everyone needs to listen to and follow what MSM is telling you. They have been around forever, and will remain so. Society has changed, the guns just make it a bit easier for them.
Same tards would be killing people no matter what method they use. (Flame thrower, etc if no guns around).
Cars, machete's, bombs, etc.
No guns used in Boston Marathon bombing, maybe that's why Bernie wants the terrorist to be able to vote from prison??? Lib's ::)
A combat shotgun for home defense.
Well, a 'gun nut' just opened fire and killed 5 people somewhere in Kansas... :(So?
So?
Buy another Gun, and keep thinking you will prevent violence and 'Chaos' in this world ...Just might do that. Been looking at some Uberti SA 45LC's.

Well, it says a lot. A watch or even a sneaker fan collector could use freely the items on the street without being a fool :)And they would probably prefer to have a gun when they are robbed for their watch or sneakers.

A simple google search before you opened your mouth would have saved you from looking like an idiot. ;)
Nobody is robbing shoes in Florida, not even on the ghetto lol

Oh. A google search? Ok. Youre right. I dont go outside and speak with real people. Im the idiot who buy and collect guns to shoot on a range and is afraid to step outside into the Real World without a gun on his Belt...Do you ask a lot of people if they've been robbed of their shoes?
Im sorry, Chaos, youre always on point...
GUys, never argue with an anti-gunnut,or a pro-gun nut,its pointless.
GUys, never argue with an anti-gun nut, or a pro-gun nut, its pointless. There are those who grew up around firearms, respect them, and are law abiding.
Worry about the gangsta Chicago type's with illegal weapons, and know they wont give them up during a gun "buy-back". Worry about the clowns who call people "racist" for pointing out obvious crime stats.
Worry about gimmicks like Shizzo who post false death rumors about themselves, then make fake accounts here as "joe valentino". Yeah, OK "Joe". ::)
Oh. Youre a confessed Gun nut with 9 firearms, and they should worry about a guy that never had a gun on his life, and actually faces the Real World every day without one.
Youre absolutely right. All the Mass shootings in this country are done with spoons and plastic silverware...
Spoons are really deadly, especially plastic ones, while glocks, Machine Guns and shotguns are not.
Do you ask a lot of people if they've been robbed of their shoes?
Haha. Another gun crime expert loaded with stats out of his ass..
Great point! Plastic spoons are far more deadly than firearms. Plastic spoons account for many more deaths per year, than firearms. I like your mindset. 8)

Tac-13 semi-auto 12ga, with a "knob-grip". 100% legal from the factory.
I'd rather have a short-barrel AR15 "pistol" w/a "brace"(legal to shoulder the braces now).
If there's an intruder and I need to fire on him, i want a rifle that's easy to handle and fire, not to mention loud AF so neighbors will know exactly what's going on and call the cops before I need to.
Rather deal with the "felon in possession" charges later and take my chances in court.

Would love to buy a STEYR Aug.Wow! Great call. You sure know your shit Kwon!
2 of the worst choices for a home defense weapon. Hope this helps.
A pump shotgun is not a good choice?
Just the sound of that pump slide is enough to send people running.
Explain.
Oh. Im sorry, guys.Megadeth is gay, nobody cares what they have to say.
I posted an ANTI-GUN Megadeth Video, and Dave D, the 'Get Big Police" will say something Bad about it...
:(
A pump shotgun is a great choice. A little handheld, 5 +1 round capacity shotgun is a poor choice. Get a full size shotgun that you can shoulder, not a gimmicky Tac-13. Also, if someone is in your house, they should never hear you chambering a round (pump slide).
Only accurate thing about this is they shouldnt hear you racking a round.
You think an extra 2rds is gonna make any difference? I've been shooting since I was 7, boy scouts since kindergarten, hunting rabbit since 8/9, deer and pheasant since 10, so on and so on...
I can handle a tac-14/13 just as well as a shouldered 8rd "tact"870/500 w/a pistol grip.
However I can handle an AR even better, and follow-up/dbl tap rounds are much, much easier with an AR. Had a gun in my hands for 30yrs now, I know what's behind when I pull a trigger, and an easily maneuverable AR-15 pistol that's shoulder-width a sub 10 inch barrel, is just fine... So long as it has a lite/strobe. Don't even need a red-dot/aimpoint for home defense, so long as you can see the front post.
Wham! ESF continues the owning!
