Yes.
Young people learn social skills by attending school with theirs peers. Online schools such as Khan Academy, don't provide this. What's the point in being learned if you are socially awkward (misfit).

Joaquin Phoenix and his siblings never went to school and they were getting laid at 4 years old. How's that for socialization? :-\

There in school to learn the basics. You can socialize anywhere.

School is worthless. All a person needs to know is how to read posts on getbig. This forum is loaded with mega millionaires, super model pussy slayers, world class athletes, business tycoons and genius scientific minds. This site is frequented only by the ubermensch of society.

Vince Goodrum, CSN, MFT, HPP, CEP, went from pre-school right to high school due to his IQ and high scores across multiple state exams.

Perhaps they can learn them elsewhere, but school affords kids a natual environment to interact with each other. Socializing is the action or process of causing a person to behave in a way that is acceptable to their society.

Is that what you can decipher through your binoculars, not within 100 yards of an elementary school?

WTF? Why did you quote Thin Lizzy in one post, then create a new post to respond to him? Couldn't you have done both in one post like a sane, lucid, sober Getbigger?

You can do that in daycare which is actually designed for social interactions. I’m talking strictly about learning the basics. I don’t know about you, but when I was in elementary school we were told not to speak to our classmates.
Why is it so hard to imagine a world where people can learn without having to attend government indoctrination centers?
Do you need to sit in a room with 30 other people in order to learn something?
-
Listend to Jordan Peterson the other day, he said if your kid isnt popular with other kids by the time they are 4 they are pretty much fucked for life.. its too late to do anything else after that...
-
For me at least, taking the "social" out of learning speeds up the learning process many fold. It's tailored to you, not the collective class. If you want or need to know a subject, online curriculum like Khan Academy can be accelerated and excitedly paced whereas elementary/high school was time wasting and torturously plodding :-\. And when you start to get bored your mind wanders, compounding the problem. Brick and mortar college is slightly better than brick and mortar high school. Online learning is magnitudes better for many people.

- Guess you went to a school where there was no recess or class discussions. You do need to be around other people (kids) learn socialization. It's impossible to do this alone.

Quality post.

Nonsense.
Agreed. There are 4 year old kids who have little or no contact with their peers and most do just fine.

Nonsense.
I will take the opinion of Jordan over an anonymous poster on getbig thanks,,,
There are several studies mentioning the link between lack of socialization or instability in your parental relationships at a young age and mental disorders and social withdrawal tendencies. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15839492

This is just a small collection of studies about social withdraw and possible causes. There are more sources out there available however there is no need to link every source on the internet. This is what I have found linking lack of social interaction before the age of 4 and long term social problems that lead to a separation of classes almost. While one class of people don't experience these things it leads them to not interact with those who have and those who have interact with their peers.

I was an only child who was almost exclusively around adults prior to attending school. IMO, there is truth to what is said in the links you posted. What doesn't wash with me is the belief that who you are at the age of four is who you will be for the rest of your life.

So? That's okay isn't it? Anyway, this is a discussion more so than an argument.

argument
a reason or set of reasons given in support of an idea, action or theory.

joswift: the human dictionary. ;)
I perfer a discussion or a conversation. An argument seems more contentious. But then, I'm something of a 'snowflake'. So, there's that.

Every day, I see these poor kids walking home from school hunched over with a backpack full of textbooks. It’s as though the tech revolution never happened in the public school system.
In 50 years time, people are going to look at back in disbelief at the inefficiency of the education system.

No shit, they are still using the Prussian educational model of the 19th century. A few schools like the Delphi Academy in Oregon have a much better model and have graduating school at 16 and going to MIT, Caltech, Harvard. For a small school they have loads of success stories like Sky Dayton, the creator of Earthlink and a bunch of other internet startups.
