Title: Fourth Straight Day of Hiccups
Post by: Coach is Back! on October 23, 2019, 07:08:44 PM
I’m on my fourth day straight of hiccups. The only time they stop is when I eat and when I lay on my stomach. I was using voice to text while driving today an I thought Siri was going to slap the shit out of me. This seriously sucks.

Joe, I had that problem 4 or 5 times in the last 15 years. Came out of nowhere. Same thing. After eating ok, and laying down eventually.

Went to a specialist and there was nothing they could pin down. It just took time. Xanax will help or a few drinks like Amaretto always helped me in the evening..

Lucky, I haven’t had a cold or flu for about 2 years which might be a little unusual since I’m around high schoolers most of the day. Just some sniffles here and there.

But I’m due even though I’m resigning at the end of the season

Coach that blows big time, sorry to hear you are in agony!
I'm sure its not what you have but its definitely worth a mention.
Not trying to freak you out but you are on GetBig,  so here it is...
A few years ago a friend of mine, (pro bodybuilder) had hiccups for days. He tried everything possible to make them go away, without any success.
It got so bad that he started getting really worried and depressed . It fucking sucked big time
I told him to go to a Dr. and see whats up. After he finally went, they found a big cyst in his throat that kept pushing on his wind pipe.
The reason was an infection he got from injecting Winstrol V in to his traps.  :o  Dr. said a day later he could have suffocated in his sleep within the ext day or so..
Just telling what happened Joe. Its a true story. One of the horror stories I witnessed in Venice back then.
Anyway they removed it and everything was fine. Still a freaky incident no one ever heard of
Hopefully by now Tito scared the shit out of you and the hiccups are history.

You have to find the cause, not treat the symptoms. Since 50 % of illnesses are psychosomatic, find out what is causing the stress and reduce that. Should help.

Haven’t used Tren since my show (May) and that was only for 6 weeks. Eating pretty much around the clock (upped my calories) some stress going on right now. I’m hoping that’s the main cause.

It is a lung tumor. When the tumor irritates the Phrenic nerve you get hiccups. Then you die.

Funny that you mention that.... I know this guy who is being used as some sort of "trenbolone test" .. if it's real tren he'll get hiccups... usually the worse the hiccups the better the tren.

Good luck to you coach in getting rid of it - chronic hiccups have always been something I was really afraid of getting ever since I saw this television article about it when I was a kid.

C3-4-5 Keeps the patient alive. Get your neck adjusted coach. May not even be related in the slightest but in my 30 years as a Chiro I’ve fixed tons of patients hiccups immediately.

C3-4-5 form the phrenic nerve which controls your diaphragm. Pinch those and your diaphragm can spasm. Make sure it’s someone who can adjust your neck deep.

Worth a shot.

It’s either that or a tumor.

Steroids (dexamethasone, methylprednisolone, oxandrolone, and progesterone)
Benzodiazepines (midazolam, lormetazepam, and lorazepam)
Barbiturates (methohexital)
Antibiotics (azithromycin)
Phenothiazines (perphenazine)
Opioids (hydrocodone) Alcohol.

I have had bouts of chronic hiccups and this does work. I dont know if has to be 9 gulps but alternating breath holding and drinking water has worked for me. If not the first time try again. I've had to do this as much as five times but never more than five. Give yourself enough time to catch your breath and not pass out.

If that doesn't work you may need to see a doctor.

A strongman in France began occupying after lifting up a pig. He hiccups for 42 years. -ripleys believe it or not.

If you have a PCP or know a prescriber in California, call them and ask them if they would be kind enough to prescribe you 2-3 days of Thorazine at a low dose (typically 25-50mg every 6-8 hours). It is very effective.

Of course, have them review the side effects etc.

The steroid-responsive hiccup reflex arc: competitive binding to the corticosteroid-receptor?

Dickerman R, Overby C, Eisenberg M, Hollis P, Levine M.
Vol. 24 (3-4) 2003 Neuro endocrinology letters   Case Reports     2003; 24(3-4): 167-169  PubMed PMID:  14523351      Citation  Keywords:  Adrenal Cortex Hormones:adverse effects, Adult, Anabolic Agents:adverse effects, Binding, Competitive:drug effects, Cerebellar Neoplasms:surgery, Cerebellopontine Angle:pathology, Edema:complications, Hiccup:chemically induced, Humans, Male, Meningioma:su.
: Hiccups occurring secondary to high-doses of corticosteroids are a well-recognized problem in the field of neurosurgery. Numerous reports of oral, intravenous and intraarticular corticosteroids inducing hiccups exist in the literature. To date, there is only one case of anabolic steroids inducing hiccups. We now present a case of a patient who underwent a suboccipital craniotomy for resection of a cerebellar pontine angle meningioma. Postoperatively the patient was on high doses of Decadron and Oxandrin, an anabolic-anticatabolic agent used to combat the deleterious effects of corticosteroids. The patient suffered intractable hiccups postoperative day one, resistant to Thorazine. Oxandrin was discontinued to assess the possibility of a anabolic steroid-induced singultus. The hiccups resolved within 24 hours. This report validates the previous report on anabolic steroids inducing hiccups and exemplifies the ability for steroids as a class, due to there backbone structural homology, to induce function even as competitive inhibitors.

Could be worse (trying to cheer you up  :D).

Today I found out Charles Osborne (1894-1991) had the hiccups non-stop for approximately 68 years,
from 1922 to June 5th, 1990.  According to the Guinness Book of World Records, this is the longest bout
of the hiccups ever recorded.

His hiccups first started in 1922 while weighing a hog for slaughter.  As he says, “I was hanging a 350
pound hog for butchering.  I picked it up and then I fell down.  I felt nothing, but the doctor said later
that I busted a blood vessel the size of a pin in my brain.”  The result being that he damaged a small
part of his brain that inhibits the hiccup response, according to Dr. Terence Anthoney who treated Osborne
later in life.

In the beginning, Osborne’s hiccups occurred at a rate of around 40 times per minute on average.  Throughout
his life, this gradually slowed to about 20 hiccups per minute until they finally stopped mysteriously about one
year before his death in 1991.  It is estimated that he hiccuped over 430 million times in his lifetime!

http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2011/07/charles-osborne-had-the-hiccups-for-68-years-from-1922-to-1990/

Bonus Facts:

Another dramatic case of the hiccups occurred in 2006 with a man named Christopher Sands who lived in Lincolnshire, England.
Sands’ hiccups lasted around 3 years and robbed him of his career as a musician and vocalist.  His hiccups were so bad at times
that he would be unable to breath properly and would occasionally pass out from it. He also had significant difficulty in sleeping.
Sands eventually received media attention in 2009 and doctors in the United States investigated and found he had a tumor in his
brain stem that was causing the hiccups.  After removing it, the hiccups went away.

In 2007, Jennifer Mee of Florida hiccuped over 50 times per minute for around 35 days straight before the hiccups went away.
This same girl was later arrested for murder in 2010 after taking part in a robbery.

I am going to doctor but it’s not a TIA. I’m on meds and my BP is normal

I don't consider chiropractors to be doctors. Consult a physician instead of posting on Getbig.
I'm sure chiropractors everywhere are crushed that you don't consider them doctors.

Doctors of chiropractic medicine also must undertake years of training and study, typically starting with four years of undergraduate study and a degree, mostly centered on scientific courses. They then must gain acceptance into a chiropractic program at a college accredited by the Council on Chiropractic Education. The typical program lasts four years, with more than 4,800 hours of study...

Man we joke around a lot but I hope it’s nothing serious. That must be so annoying. I can’t stand shit that affects my training and diet. Having hiccups all day would do that.

Chiropractic manipulation has zero basis in science.

You go to the ED and say that you think you have a TIA due to unresolved hiccups and they will laugh at you.

That's great!

Hiccups are pretty common but hiccups for days is definitely not and is a symptom of something else. Definitely go to a doctor.

Try opening a chiropractic business with no license and you will get busted for practicing medicine without a license.

I really don't know what kind of training or qualifications chiropractors need or get and in my decades of experience with them there they vary widely. In the early days, it was all just snap and pop stuff but now it seems, at least the ones I've gone to, are very involved with sports medicine and working with athletes with many being athletes themselves. They, again the ones I've gone to, are very knowledgeable in such varied areas of healing including all that acupressure, rolfing, shiatsu stuff I don't have a clue about. I have found them to be very, very helpful. I can't count the number of times when I've gone over a week with a nagging pain and have come out of a chiropractor's office good as new.

Again, I think they vary widely as it doesn't seem as a precise science such as orthopedics or dentistry were there are clearly defined prognosis and procedures. But you get these young doctors that are really passionate and they are always learning and researching on their own so they don't have a wall full of formal certificates but they know their stuff.

Means nothing.  Just a result of successful lobbying by the chiros.

Chiros are wannabe doctors who couldn't qualify for real med school.

Read the history of chiropractic.  It's nonsense.  Basically works on the placebo principle.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiropractic

Many chiros have learned legitimate physical therapy techniques to augment their nonsense chiropractic manipulations.

you must be a lefty🤣. Just kidding. What agenda do u have against chiropractic? Did u have a bad experience with one or something? Everything u say about it is pure nonsense. I didn’t click on the link so don’t know what it talks about Chiro origins but who cares? Even if it says we started off as voodoo doctors medicine was based upon using leeches applied to people to draw out the bad blood. If I remember correctly it’s what killed our first president (or is this just urban legend about that?) I don’t have time to look it up. I have to run. I work from 9-noon today fooling people paying me cash to give them placebos. 🤣

I’ve had a couple of debilitating back issues — usually out of the blue and without suffering any major trauma. Both times a single visit to the chiropractor eliminated the issue. I will add that both visits consisted of uncomfortable deep tissue massage which may have been responsible for my rapid recovery. But what would people suggest instead — going to see an orthopedic surgeon to perform unnecessary surgery? A protracted course of PT over a period of months?

Deep tissue massage is a form of physical therapy.  It's not chiropractic.

You could also go to a physical therapist who does deep tissue massage.

Deep tissue massage is a form of physical therapy.  It's not chiropractic.

You could also go to a physical therapist who does deep tissue massage.

Or you could just buy a tennis ball and foam roller and do it yourself.

I rarely use, nor have I heard used in the common vernacular, people using the term "MD". They, I, just say doctor. We can all speculate on a message board but for something like this I would see my PCP.

Chiropractors are getting killed in NJ from insurance companies that have cut what they pay them to just about nothing. A girl I know that dates one said his pay went from 300K to 100K but suspect he is lying on both counts. She is a knock out by the way but I digress. My wife use to work for one and he had to get rid of his three girls working the front desk who did billing an appointments. He couldn't afford them and had to sell his house in a neighbor hood where real doctors lived. My wife said he is lucky to be making 70K in a good year.
