Back story...
last night we secured our league championship for the first time in 33 years. We beat a team that was undefeated. Today I was on our community FB board and saw this. Some people took this as "racist" while others basically said it was BS and wasn't racist. They were accusing our booster kids of purposely being "racist". Needless to say I blew a fucking gasket as it seems they would rather call judgement instead of just doing a little investigating and ask the kids what they meant by that (I didn't see anything wrong it). I look at it as throwing the kids under the bus to only protect their own(the school districts) asses.
This is prime example of taking the PC bullshit too far.
For the record, there were hispanic kids who also put this together. People just assume that just because we're in HB we're all white. >:(

OP wasn't super clear, but Segerstrom is the opposing team (and presumably made up of more minorities?) and the two signs are the ones pictured.
I think you're the aussie , right? In america, wearing socks with sandals is something some people make fun of others for. And wearing socks with sandals is more common among blacks.
Obviously, asking getbig if something is racist isn't preaching to the choir and OP is looking for an unbiased perspective to inform an opinion he hasn't settled on yet.
It doesn't take much to imagine a kid trying to skate right up to the line of what would be considered "acceptable", but leaving enough wiggle room for plausible deniability.

"The Huntington Beach district also has reached out to the Orange County Human Relations Commission and to California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) for assistance in addressing the incident with Marina students.
The incident continued a concerning trend in Orange County.
In September, a racial slur was directed toward a student from Lincoln High of San Diego during a football game at San Clemente High School. Santa Ana said its football team and students last season encountered insensitive signs when it played at Aliso Niguel High School.
In August, video surfaced of Pacifica water polo players in 2018 singing a Nazi marching song while extending their arms in a Hitler salute.
And in March, students from Newport Harbor High were caught on social media giving a “Nazi salute”.

Here here!! I can't stand "those people" that wear socks with sandals! As soon as they move into a neighborhood, property values go down. I remember a young, female friend of mine once found herself walking down a desolate, NYC street, late at night and spotted 3 "guys" that were wearing socks with sandals. She was frightened. She immediately held her cell phone on one hand with 911 dialed-in ready for only the call button to be pressed by her thumb and in her other hand, she produced a makeshift weapon by putting her keys in between her fingers just in case she needed to defend herself. Luckily, the sock-wearing filth went about their business, no doubt searching for an establishment that possibly sold sandals and socks to further perpetuate the stereotype. It's these damn "people" that wear socks with sandals that are keeping our women and children in a state of panic. Fucking animals, why can't they just go back to where they came from.

Definitely popularized by blacks/ hip hop scene. When white kids like Justin Bieber wear them, people will sometimes refer to those kids as "wiggers" or wannabes.
The brown thing might be a case of interpretation, but when combined with other incidents, it seems less innocent to me.

This entire incident started with ONE parent who didn’t even bother to stick around when confronted and it also looks like the CIF might try to overturn our win and championship that we haven’t won in 33 years even though the football team itself had nothing to do with this.
Our last game is on Thursday where it looks like we’ll have full media along with protesters. Yep, I’m going to get political. This is ALL the doing on the left.

BB, you nailed it as far as the color goes. This was discussed in our meeting today when I brought it up and he clarified this nicely by saying (and he’s Hispanic) this has nothing to do with racism but rather since blue and gold is basically their color and our kids saying their favorite color is “brown” it meant just as shitty, off-color, color (if that makes sense) it’s used just not for football but most sports. It’s just a shitty color but leave it to the left to make it racist

I hope the school district does a real investigation but it sounds like at this point it wont matter because its being turned into a "pc event" where the "leaders can make changes to address social issues".
Im surprised they're not suggesting they just eliminate the football programs altogether because it breeds an unhealthy level of competitiveness.

The hardest part of this for me to think about is the teenage kid returning home and his mom knowing immediately that he's upset so she asks "Mihito what's wrong?" When he tells her he got called a beaner she's all "Ayyy! Mihito!!" and his dad in the bumblebee suit is shouting "Ay chihuahua! No es bueno!" while his sister prepares to graduate to womanhood at her quinceanera and his uncle vende las drogas out of a mariachi guitar and his brother with the teardrop tat buttons the uppermost button on a shirt made for someone 4 sizes larger.
The kid would be wondering how he's even related to these people. I mean, he's basically an american so he's like "Please stop that. Can I just have some food? Is there any dinner left?"

And then everyone started dancing around a sombrero. This kid is having a hell of a time.
