With all the back and forth about politics, do you think you win or lose the majority of debates on getbig?
Further, do you think you have changed the minds of any getbiggers regarding their political stance?

Everyone thinks they won the debate. Their opponents think they lost.

I'm getting the feeling lately he is more of a troll and says things just to get people riled up.
If not, he needs to get help as his life is devoid of joy and filled with obessession with Trump. I guess there are people like that as they are on the news all of the time.
Either way it seems like a pretty poor life to live, though (trolling obsessively on a board or obsessively thinking about Trump).

Give the guy credit, he doesn't seem to get too flustered. Sticks to his guns. (20 inch guns a blazing).
Whos the guy that was here forever (Rob) who ran off when Hilary lost, now thats funny... (He may be here as a new gimmick though).

I think no one really changes their mind politically from arguments during an election season, or at least the number of people who do this is rather small and inconsequential (similar to small/inconsequential bodybuilders).
Elections in the US are often cast as "who can sway the most moderates" but I think they are much more dependent on who can get the largest fraction of their base fired up to go vote.

Debate? ???
Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of the women!

More importantly - not a single shred of evidence he lifts

Hmm. Is Strawman also SF1900?

That would be sad, to say the least...

Truth to this. If as many of the voters came out for Hillary as they did for Obama, Trump would have lost.
That is my fear in the next election. Both sides are riled up but there are more democrats than republicans. Hopefully, Trump has done enough to show how crazy they are so that some "moderates" will actually switch instead of vote by party lines (or at least not come out to vote again).

Yes. The myth of DJT being swept into office in 2016 by a "Populist Tide" of disgruntled/marginalized white men is just that (a myth), he won because of low turnout among Obama voters who don't normally vote.
I think the GOP is much better at getting the base behind their single candidate (and unlike 2016 they already have their guy). Dems fall in love with their candidate during primary season then get all fussy about it when someone else wins the nomination and you end up with a fractured or disinterested base come the general election. This cost them the election in 2016 and I think it will cost them again in 2020.
The public-facing narrative of the Democratic party this election season is being driven by a few thousand vocal Wokesters on Twitter who voted for AOC. I think the bulk of the Dem base is older and more moderate like the Hulkotron and is turned off by all this Lefticism. I foresee a fairly easy re-election for DJT unless there's some real meat to this impeachment business (doesn't seem like there is).

This. Typically when you respond to his posts with a well thought out response he doesn’t respond back. It’s only when some of our resident “Trumperz” get riled up and respond is when he comes out to troll. Only a few, cough Coach, get caught in the trap.

Straw Man and I appear to lose a lot of Getbig debates...appearances are misleading.
It is next to impossible to change closed minds. So no, I don't think what we post has much effect here, with regards to politics.

What's the point of debating? It doesn't change the truth.

-Depends on your point of view. Show me one post, just one, where you've taken a more liberal stance or at least one more open to other possibilities?

HAHAHA. Exhibit A...

It soothes the ego thinking you won.

My mind has often been changed when backed by a sound argument. I was all in for Ted Cruz but as time went on there were some very convincing arguments that he could not beat Hilary. Also, we are at a time when we seem to need someone who would really shake things up. I was very unsure about supporting Trump. It seemed like so much could go so wrong so fast. It seemed like such a gamble and Cruz was just so solid -- but conventional. As time went on Trump just seemed to get more and more awesome.
Despite all his personal failings he has true greatest in him.

Here though you are talking about choosing a candidate within the Republican party, e.g. Cruz vs. DJT. This happens quite often, happening right now with Dems large slate of candidates. I think what happens much less often is people deciding who they are going to vote for in a general election of Rep vs. Dem. At that point nearly everyone has already decided who they'll vote for, the task of the candidate is to get them out and actually vote.

I'm not debating anybody
this board is not a debate forum
We're all here for the same exact reason, to spout our opinions and stroke our egos....end of story
anyone who thinks they are here to debate or change someones mind is deluding themselves and also wasting their time ....because who really gives a shit what some rando on a message board thinks (that goes for all of us)

I guess it does, when you have issues with your ego.

Using a strict definition for the word debate, you are correct. Loosely, to debate is to argue differing opinions. Seems like there is a fair amount of this going on here.

Well, then what is the point?

Good point. I'm not sure what the point is. But, an over inflated ego is not it.

True, because in one case you are talking about specifics within an ideology whereas in the other you are talking about different ideologies all together. A fundamental shift in a person's world view, which is quite a sea change and doesn't happen over night.
My father worked in politics and I came from a very politically aware and focused family. Conversations invariably revolved around the political issues of the day at the dinner table (back in the days where families always had dinner together). This was mostly in the tumultuous 70s during the cultural revolution and a brother in Vietnam. I was born and raised a Liberal Democrat, worked in local elections, and went door to door campaigning for Jimmy Carter as well as other local Democratic politicians (at my father's none negotiable request). It's only after I was out on my own paying bills and taxes and experience how much the country changed for the better under Reagan and hearing the other side of the argument other than the one I grew up with did I switch to Republican and supported Reagan in his second term.
Here I am 45 years later with a recent photo of my Father's old boss at church, former Governor Ariyoshi. He was, is, such a dignified and honorable man and I really looked up to him and admired him. For him I didn't mind going door to door passing out fliers. Served for two terms as Governor of Hawaii. Needless to say he was not please knowing I had switched parties but doesn't hold it against me.
