Peak era of BB? (nohomo)

Peak of guts

He looked 45

There was more excitement and camaraderie back then, as evident in the video. The top guys used to travel together when they did the European shows. The videography was more interesting too. Backstage these days seems more solitary and boring.

Peak of guts
Ron didn't believe in gut control, including on stage
-
Ugh.. straight into milos with syntholed arms

I've been watching this video for 3 minutes now and with the slight and I mean slight exception of Dexter, not one of these guys has a build I would ever consider aesthetic. It's just an insane gutathon. All of them.

What's mindblowing is how great most of these guys still look 20+ years later. Proof that BB - done correctly - is the best sports/activity for health and longevity ever.

Markus was born in February of 1972, so he was 27 there...but close enough to 25. Wow, he did look so much older than his biological age. I always knew that, but it's still remarkable to see it. I wonder if Markus ever cared that he looked so much older than he actually was.

The way he pranced around the stage at the 2003 and 2004 Mr. Olympia contests with his gut effectively protruding out as much as possible...it made me wonder if he even considered his gut size at all. He was actually capable of keeping it somewhat under control, but he was was prancing around the stage, pumping his arms up in the air...it's like he was just being blatant about it. It's like he was either purposely showing he didn't care about his gut, or was oblivious to it. I recall that Chad Nicholls had Ronnie wear a weight belt during sets to keep his gut under check, so you would think Ronnie would have been aware...but in the 2003 and 2004 Mr. Olympia contests, it's like he didn't even realize how big his gut was...

I like competing in lightweight strongman because I feel that strength is the last thing to leave an athlete. So if I go on a good training program in the new year, I can be my strongest ever for the summer contests. I can be stronger at 38 than I was at 25.
That can't happen in too many sports.
I would say that muscle mass is something that stays even longer than strength. So I agree with you that bodybuilding is a great activity for longevity. Strongman too - that being, if you don't push it too hard and get injured. Given that I compete in the 175-lb category, I can still improve into my forties...but I see a lot of guys in the open heavyweight category get injured.

Ironic that jean pierre fux and Tom Prince said Milos used A LOT of gear, everything and anything

I call BS on that. If he was really pushing the envelope back in the day, he wouldn't be in good health and in that great shape pushing 60 these days

Milos posted that the top guys were only using a gram of test a week, Ronnie included

They all push the envelope one way or another
You never know, like the guy who drinks and smokes everyday and lives until 95
Genetics is everything
Wouldn’t be a surprise for sure, he was the “known guy” that was not afraid to experiment, in the inner circle he was at the forefront of gear, insulin

March: Milos competed at the 1999 Arnold Classic. He placed 5th. He pushed the envelope. He was up there with Nasser, Cormier, Cutler, Levrone.
May: Milos placed 5th at the 1999 Night of Champions. A guy would have to push the envelope to place high at the NOC during that time period. He was competing against Dillett and Ruhl at that show.
September: Milos competed at the 1999 Olympia. Were are talking Ronnie and Flex. Enough said.
That was 3 separate precontest preps in 1999. That’s a lot of drugs during one year.

As is the case for my friend's grandfather. He turned 97 [in July, I believe], and smoked from around age 13 to 67. Something like that. Whatever it was, he was smoking for over 50 years. He was likely drinking for around the same amount of time.
My grandfather passed away two years ago. He would have been 81 on the 12th of this month. He died just before turning 79. Not super elderly by any means, but he did drink from age 10 to 74 and smoke from age 12 to 76. He was probably just around two years smoke-free by the time he died. And it's not like he quit smoking because of willpower or anything. With drinking - he drank himself sober, and I imagine he smoked himself smoke-free too. As in, it just got to the point that it was so disgusting to pursue it that his body made him stop.
I take nothing for granted though. In fact, as of 01/01/2020, I'm removing what minimal caffeine I include in my life. I drink about three large coffees a month, and I'll be stopping that. I drink a serving of alcohol roughly once every two months, but I'll be stopping that.
I will also be going mostly carb-free. I will just be including mainly vegetable carbohydrates in my diet. Some fruits, but I'm basically going 0 on refined carbohydrates. Predominantly vegetables, as said, and I'll decide what fruits to include [I'm thinking bananas and oranges - maybe dark berries, as I've heard they have some unique benefits].
While I am confident that most things are genetic, I've decided that I want my shitty evolutionary body to last as long as possible. I hope I can encourage as many friends as possible to join me. I hope they can keep their vices to the weekend - basically, in the form of cheat days. I find that there are many people who want their friends to join them in their vices. I absolutely do NOT want this.
I have a friend who absolutely wants me to join him in his alcohol addiction, obesity, and other bad habits. I feel the opposite - I want my friends to be as healthy as possible, and indulge, but only on the weekends.
Bodybuilding-related because I fear for the health of pro bodybuilders. It sucks that their identities are so caught up in being huge that they need to stay big forever, ultimately reducing their lifespans in the process. I met Milos Sarcev in 2007, and I appreciated his candor. He was 43 at the time, and had no problem admitting to me that he had been using steroids for 20 years. Hopefully he has curtailed the dosages and can maintain the size he did with a little over TRT + a good diet.
I like Milos, and a lot of the other pros discussed in this thread. I fear for their health's though. :-\
I fear for everyone's health. :-\
