I fear for his health. He will be 45 in February:
-
I preface my comment by acknowledging that Branch has accomplished more on the circuit, donning the thong than I ever will - but seriously, does he not worry about going the same way as Ronnie and to a lesser extent, Dorian? There is a reason guys like Jay and Dex are injury-free and continue to look incredible, not like goblins. :(

Agreed about Jay and Dexter looking great. I still fear for both of their health due to using so many PEDs...but at least they won't end up a mess of injuries like Ronnie and Branch.
-
looks like he could be off drugs or on low dosage.

I fear for the coach’s health too, he’s 240+ pounds these days at 5’6 approaching 60
Recently battling a case of hiccups is not good
I worry

coach is in denial. at 5'6 he needs to be around 168 lbs max (he'll say I haven't been at that weight for 30 years, well duh, you've been roiding all them years), and he'll still look jacked if he's lean there. look at the shorter fighter who are in the 154-168 range.
that denial mode is what causes bad health surprises to hit you like a bus.

Yep! I fear for The_Coach_Is_Back_!'s health too!

Me too. He’s already had a recent health scare before the extra weight was put on, right? Like a mini heart attack or stroke? Each year you’re competitively bodybuilding in your 40’s and 50’s is like playing Russian roulette especially when you’re ignoring the red flags that your body is already signaling. His response? Up the dose and move up a weight class. I like Coach, but this is denial and stubbornness of peace...

I really don't know why people keep on citing Ronnie like possibilities for guys who lift heavy.
Ronnie is the only guy I've ever heard of who has had the type of problems. He might be an outlier.
I've never heard of powerlifters, guys who go into their 60-70s having the issues that Ronnie has had.
Yet apparently, we're doomed if we lift heavy over 40 ::)

No. Ronnie isn’t the ONLY one to have issues with his body from lifting heavy, however, he is one of the few to be in the extreme end of it
The problem he has is he keeps lifting while he’s still recovering from surgery

I think it’s the addictive personality he has, which is common among bbers and drug addicts, they don’t know when to stop, I recall coach in his early days as a meth addict (maybe he can come on here and confirm it)
Combine with being stubborn, and him being almost 60, it’s not going to end well
Apparently he wants to move up and compete in the heavy weight division

That’s redundant considering that competitive bodybuilders ARE drug addicts ;)

I think this is a bad idea. Branch is well past his prime. Besides, we know damn well what happens to professional bodybuilders who train at Metroflex gym. History dictates that this guy will be on crutches if he keeps it up. The motto seems to be to lunge the heaviest weights around with the goal of detaching muscles from tendons and crushing spinal discs. Unless you have amazing genetics (ie Coleman), you are bound to bring about an injury and/or body deformity, well before you taste Olympia glory. Even if he is lucky enough to obtain a high spot on the Olympia stage, he will still be on the path to physical annihilation.

Higher probability that you will die of AIDS than Coach will die of a heart attack.

I stay up at night worrying about coach sometimes. I had to smoke an extra spliff and pop a few xannies last night to calm my nerves.
Branch is a very small man and getting smaller by the day as he reduces his supplement intake

Change is hard, but changing one's entire lifestyle is much more difficult if not nearly impossible.
-
Same caveat as JuicedKangaroo - I've never been anywhere near Branch's level (mainly because I'm 6'1")
So clearly I'm not really qualified to comment, but do those arms look slightly lumpy..?
He's still clearly shaving all over too for some reason. He resembles a smooth pink Orc or something

These guys are used to being stared at, that’s addictive and when they go off drugs they literally disappear from the spotlight. Nobody gives them the attention they had before.
Drugs = big = attention.
Just like hot chicks getting older. They resort to plastic surgeries to stay somewhat relevant.
Mentally weak people can’t stand the thought of being irrelevant to the public eye. They are slaves to the society.
-
We all have our own vices / seeds of destruction within.
I’ve never been either a fan or advocate of that heaving & Swinging the weight
Around style of training- I just don’t see any benefits & lots of negatives.
He’s still got a good amount of tissue & so he should he’s only What mid 40’s.

This.

Dorian?
follow Dorian..... do tons of hot yoga, drop the weights, bang buff chics and do guest speaking about bbing and make the money while being mentally and physically healthy

It's a height thing- Dorian is 5'10 ish, Branch is 5'6". Short guys who get big can't handle being little again. So Branch could never drop the weights.

With age typically brings more money which always trumps size, looks, shredded physique, etc..

Neither, I am 6"3! Arms do look lumpy, great pick up. Pink orc... ;D ;D ;D

Not true, bbers are all in the same, a lot of them are mentally weak and insecure, Ruhl is 5’11 still big, Ronnie 5’10 still trying to hold on, milos 5’10 still at it in size, Nasser 5’11 dead while still big, both flex wheeler and Levrone made comebacks not long ago, the list goes on
Branch wishes he was 5’6, he’s 5’4/5’5 at best with shoes on

He is certainly shorter than Lee who is 5"4

I’ve seen them both many times in person, both are similar in height, give or take, which is in the 5’4 range
Branch I just saw two wks ago at the new destination gym

Well I never said he was the only one - I said he was the only one I'd heard of having the dire issues he has.
Ever since Ronnie's plight has come to err.. light, if someone is posted lifting heavy here, according to the board that's it, that guy is done for and is definitely doing damage. It's an old fashioned pile on every time.
Not like guys like Bill Kazmaier seem to be walking particularly wounded.
Like I say, I haven't heard of many guys being in bad shape at all. There are so many way more intense powerlifters out there who should also be completely wrecked.
I've actually posted this in response to the FUD a couple of times and every time, there's a very tepid response to it - and that's because nobody has a ton of examples to refute it. :) All they have is their crippled posterchild in Coleman. It's basically a getbig catchphrase, by now.

I believe you, but if you told me you saw him while standing in line for a roller coaster at Six Flags, I’d have to call bullshit
-
Everything considered he's looking good. His physique unfortunately has that burned out look that Ruhl pioneered - like dead ham hanging on.
His short statue is a life saver when it comes to training injuries.

Hahaha ;D
Are you suggesting that he can’t ride the rollercoaster until he comes back and grows a few inches?

Really? I wouldn't have thought of this. What happens to those poor fellows who struggle financially all their lives? Do they retain their size, looks and shredded physiques?

Great post.
Branch wrote one story in MD about how running diuretics for his Nationals win caused him to basically curl up into a ball, and I think he even said he wanted to call 911. His training partner [or maybe trainer, or diet coach - I can't recall...but someone in his hotel room with him] told him not to do anything, and to tough it out. He did that, and ended up turning pro.
Branch said that up to the then present day, he wasn't sure if he should be grateful for, or hate, his trainer [or whoever] for encouraging him to push his conditioning/dehydration seemingly to the brink of death.
He did look really good in 2001 when he turned pro though - although I think he looked older than 26, and has always looked older than his biological age, IMO:

So this gun isn't quite as massive as it seems..? (

This one always makes me smile (even though it's obviously a little bit sad, retrospectively...)

Is this photo altered in any way, or was Dallas simply that much bigger than Branch? Wow!
