he purposefully eats <50 grams of protein and limits weights to once a month so that he can hold his natural muscle mass back.

Doesn't look that bad at all for 47 years old.  Minus the ugly homeless shirt and stupid grimace in this photo.

In the before photo.....not so much. If the second photo is current, he may be natural now. He looks to still be in good condition. His facial appearance has changed a lot.

He's lost the manly jawline that some develop from gear.... That's all imo.

I always wanted to know what drugs he took during 2004 where he went from placing outside the top 10 in every show to all of a sudden 3rd in the Ironman and Olympia. I remember the 2004 Ironman with that shadowy lighting and wondering where the hell he came from. I knew who he was and where he was previously placing, but it was a major and fast transformation. Didn’t he take Ronnie down in one of the posing rounds of the Olympia? Side tri maybe?

Pro BB should be a very quick "career".
The smart ones "come-off" the gear, and maybe stay on TRT if needed.
Like the comments on Zane, a near 80-year old man about his "lack of muscles".
Well I hope so?

Key is to stay light, healthy, alive. Those who get out with their health intact, are the real winners.
Not Ronnie, with all of his wins and success, he is one of BB's all-time losers. No health, not much else matters.
Same with Palumbo, very smart to be 190 lbs or whatever he is, and just on TRT. Very smart...

and to think that dorian only competed as a pro in only 8 years is crazy, and then just stopped everything, that is some serious dedication since we know most of pros are afraid to size down even after they quit competing...

Great question!

I remember that transformation...I just never thought to question any changes to his stack.

I guess I just assumed...sometimes bodybuilders just reach their prime at a particular time...right?

That's possible, isn't it?

I just had no idea...I assumed muscle maturity was the answer, or something like that.

Also, I think Gunter Schlierkamp was either 300-lb in 2002, or 295-lb [I believe it was 300-lb in 2002].

In 2001, Gunter was 290-lb, and not exactly soft.  So at most, he was only 10-lb heavier in 2002.  Meanwhile, he looked night and day.

That said, even though Gunter was vastly improved in 2002, he still looked amazing in 2001.  How is this a 15th place physique?  Lol.  And how is it that King Kamali beat both Gunter Schlierkamp AND Vince Taylor that year?  ???

^One of the greatest moments of bodybuilding in the last 20 years. Until he got screwed by the judges of course.

I thought about Gunter as well after writing that. I love it when these guys who already look pretty good come out of nowhere looking great (no homo). Although he was placing well in previous shows, you can’t leave out Jay’s transformation in 2001 as well. I also believe Gustavo took that previous year off, so he really slabbed on the mass! I think Gunter incorporated two new drug dealers gurus. I’m not sure, but I believe it was Chad “the kidney frier” Nichols and Charles Glass

They knew their muscles were going to deflate once they leave the juice behind , and they did it anyway ….. and while they were still young, healthy  and functional .

By no means am I obsessed by height (although the term 'manlet' sometimes causes a cruel grin) but that's Branch in that shot, right?  And he's 5'4" so how tall is Badell?

If Badell is that short, then my thinking here is that he is one of that rare breed like, say, Momo Benaziza where the proportions are still very good - to the point of not being able to tell in a solo shot that he is of a shorter build...

He's kind of hunched over a bit while hitting that pose, plus he's looking at least 2 inches taller than Branch in the pic.   I'd guess 5' 8''.
