I spoke several times with Evan Centapani when he visited Ed Ryan's Gym, he struck me as a very bright and personable guy.

One word: ARNOLD
-
Weider

Haney is rolling in dough these days due to real estate. Dude is a success in every way.

Arnold Schwarzenegger. Frankly, the only "professional" bodybuilder to single handedly leverage his influence in bodybuilding to further land him roles in Hollywood that made him a multi-millionaire, to then further use his starpower to penetrate politics and become California's leading politician. This guy came from nothing and evolved into a figure that dominated bodybuilding, Hollywood and furthermore carved out a seat in American history as a significant politician commanding the third largest state in America.
That's what you call smart and business savvy. Arnold is Arnold's business and he grew his business in such a way that will make him live forever in American history.
"1"

Arnold nr 1.
I'm thinking Dorian has a good business as well as Haney, Labrada and Jay Cutler.
Arnold is the only bodybuilder who ever reached those heights though.
Topselling Actionstar (one of the biggest if not THE biggest in the 80s) and even Governor!

Ferrigno did / does pretty well.
Labrada
Don Youngblood - his trucking business was pretty big.
Pudzianowski - Trucking, plus other ventures.
Vic Tanny - Old time bodybuilder, had a big gym chain.
Walter Marcyan - Universal and Marcy Gym Equipment.
Bill Pearl - He did really well off publishing I believe.
John Terpak - Went on to be an executive at York Barbell.
Dan Laurie - Gym line, publishing, etc....
Jack LaLanne - He did a few contests, so he counts.
Anatoly Pisarenko - Big time Russian Weightlifter, got into the Russian oil business hugely after the fall of communism there.
-
Stan Efferding, Mark Bell, Wendler, and Dave Tate, are 4 others that deserve to be up there from the strength training world too.
-
Obtaining a Forklift DL is achievement for some Aussie Mr.Universe winners ;)

Gary Strydom was making a mint for awhile. He had a work out clothing like when those clown pants were in fashion. He sold a lot of work out gear. He was also I believe was the top earner in the WWF bodybuilding circuit when it was going strong. Don't know what he does for money now.
-
Well, Sandow was sort of the model for everybody ,who came after him with his gymnasiums, books, magazine articles, mail-order equipment and promotion of the first bodybuilding contest , wasn't he?

Amazing, anus pulling physique.
-
gart strydom. way back in 1991 signed a deal with the wbf paying him 400k per year plus his contest winnings no one in the ifb was making anywhere near that money, only competed twice after 1992. and invested his money well.
-
Mentzer was another that was making good money before he went batty. I remember an old article where he said he had to the post office multiple times a week with a laundry bag to pick up orders for books, courses, etc..... I forget the exact number, but it was something like $200 - 300,000 a year in early 80's money.
Those Heavy Duty / Hardgainer type do open their wallets.
-
Yeah Arnold is probably the only one with major financial success.
Next would proably be Labrada and maybe Dorian with their supp companies. Both companies where doing good for a while, maybe not now thou..
-
Don't forget Jay Cutler and his music and songcareer, did good back then and still doing good nowadays.

Stan Efferding, Mark Bell, Wendler, and Dave Tate, are 4 others that deserve to be up there from the strength training world too.
Stan has done extraordinarily well for himself - achieving success in a number of different ventures:
Early on, he started a telecommunications company from scratch.
He became heavily involved in real estate.
Manufactured several generations of a gimmicked shaker cup.
Does online & virtual coaching, and conducts seminars on training and nutrition nationwide.
Sells a diet plan in ebook form AND pre-packaged meals to go with it.
Is a co-owner/silent partner/investor in several businesses.
I’d imagine the man has other investments that are not public knowledge as well. The above info is derived from interviews he’s done on podcasts, as well as footage included on his DVD from several years back when he still lived in the Oregon/Washington area.
Stan was smart enough AND able to get out of earlier projects once their performances started declining in favor of new, prosperous ventures. That’s an advantage of having several irons in the fire at any given time.
-
Didn`t Mark Dugdale and his wife own a frozen vegetable company or something like that?
Don Youngblood before his death had a trucking company.
-
Lee Haney
Bought a plot of land for $60k and sold it for $2 million
-
