Not doing too well these days, 7% kidney function.

I wonder if Joe were an illegal in CA, would he not be facing the deductible issues and insurance issues??
"Free kindneys for illegals & killers & cartel gang members".
California ::)

Totally worth it.
Guy's a true iron warrior who will fight to the end of his kidney. 7% still to go. No reason to stop lifting.
In fact, up the dose!
Unfortunately he's apparently too old to qualify for the freebie plan in Cali.

I remember him in old PLUSA Mags being huge, for a long time. Somethings gotta give. Not worth it is right.
Some don't appreciate health/longevity until its too late.

Say it isn't so. :'(
Always admired his physique. Bay likey! :P
This fundraiser appears to be from 2017. How is Joe doing now?
No offense to Lori, but why don't these guys pair up with someone with a good job and excellent insurance? No meathead of mine would ever have an online fundraiser because his bills would be paid; we could always put off the new car or jetski until next year.

People on dialysis don't live long. Few exceptions to the rule but I believe it's five years and generally up to ten for young people. It must really be hard waiting for a kidney. High blood pressure is one thing that can kill a kidney. Many taking steroids develop high blood pressure then that pressure spikes during lifting.

Ladnier is still okish, 7% kidney function, but not on dialysis. He is on the waiting list for a new kidney, but that might take 3 - 4 years. He also seems to have picked up a religious bend and critical view of medicine as seen by his page above.
P.S. - Their gym, it's in Mississippi, but but boy do those price look good / low - https://ladx2.com/ .

Bay, this makes no sense honestly.
How about if Joe got a good job w/ insurance, and took care of his wife?

Point taken, but clearly Joe has chosen a different path. By the time you invest a certain amount of years and energy into powerlifting, bodybuilding, strongman, etc. your probability of getting and keeping a traditional “good job” with insurance is greatly diminished. Recognizing this, it makes a lot of sense to pair up with someone whose lifestyle choices will compliment and balance your own. In this case, a spouse or partner who has a good job with solid benefits like health insurance, life insurance, retirement contributions, tuition benefit, car allowance, etc. Begging strangers online to meet critical expenses like a health insurance deductable is a clear indication of a life that has gone off the rails. Two losers do not equal one winner. See the merger of Sears and Kmart as one example.
By the way, we have seen this many times over the years with former bodybuilders: sob stories posted online (often with their spouse right beside them) begging “the community” for assistance. Or worse: they turn to escorting. :'(

Escorting is commendable and well above begging IMO. Most of these guys never work for years and years to begin with. Get that ass on the street. :D

This queer is SO FULL OF SHIT.

Ladnier's Facebook page has posts about avoiding unhealthy foods. Also mentioned are his friends who have died from PED use.
Joe wrecked himself using PEDs, which I guess are ok, but french fries are not.

I wonder what Joe would do differently if anything?

I am sure he would do a lot differently. Powerlifters use a lot of orals and now he needs a kidney transplant. I doubt he would be using known liver toxic 17AA orals if he had it to do over.
-
Well respected, absolute powerlifter with a pretty damn crazy physique.
Trained under the tutelage of legendary Larry Pacifico.

Ah...that explains a lot.

He'd be born with 3 kidneys.

You think? I pose the question because even when things take a bad turn I have seen bodybuilders assert that they would change nothing... that they didn’t do anything wrong... or that it was all “worth it.” You’ve seen this haven't you?
Wishing Joe good health.

Better to die at 45-55, having blown out your guts winning meaningless plastic trophies that nobody cares about, than live to old age, raising a family, having quality relationships, and going to the beach on vacations.

I’ve heard this rhetoric from guys in their 20s and 30s. I’m like... really? ::)

Remember when you were 20? You are physically invincible. You are still getting better.
The age of 40 seemed far, far, away.
Joe Ladnier likely felt that way when he was 20-30s. Now he is paying the price.
I'm sure he'd make other choices if he could go back, regardless of what macho BS he might say, not that I'm aware he has said it.
Age 35 is the point when I felt my body crossed over to the downhill slope. A barely noticeable shift.

Touché. But Joe was supplementing well into his 40s... and it wasn't HRT doses.
-
It is sad Joe is having health problems but not everyone is doing the same thing or has the same predisposition to possible genetic diseases. It is too easy to blame bodybuilding after 35 for any and all health problems. Lee Labrada appears to be training healthy and strong shredded and jacked at 61

Just the finishing touche.

I’m 51 and still growing stronger (although I’m generally stiffer and require more loosening up prior to heavy lifting).
Then again, I’m not a user.
Joe pushed the envelope artificially and his organs have now told him to fuck off.
It’s the way she goes.

More like 50's - https://www.openpowerlifting.org/u/joeladnier .
He was still putting up big totals up until 2016 at age 53. Hard to believe but he's almost 60.

You've made my point to the n-th degree. This is not a case of a twenty something gym boy clueless about the future. This is a grown man who went heavy on the sauce well into his 50s! That kind of strength and beauty comes at a very high price. :-[

That is a great article.
As he says: "As usual, some of you will get it, some of you will not."
