Title: 1917 vs The Watcher
Post by: G_Thang on January 23, 2020, 02:32:13 AM
You thought the Witcher had endless conversions which lead to ZERO action, just try to sit through 1917.  This has to be the worst war movie I have ever watched. And Hollyweird is calling this thing Oscar-worthy.

Watch at your own risk.  I actually paid for this thing at the cinema, thinking it was Saving Private Ryan 2 or something of that nature.

Yeah I wanted a little more. Not horrible though IMO. That song at the end was great!

Get checked for ADHD if adult movies are too slow for you. I had no issues watching this movie. It's not a Marvel flick...

I sat through the Irishmen for 3 hrs.

It's not Dunkirk, Platoon, Full Metal Jack, Apocalypse Now, American Sniper, SPR, etc, etc, etc., sucks!

In the middle of enemy territory having a loud conversion in an open field, in the daylight.  ::)

Ah, well I tempered my expectations. There was no buzz like that and nothing about this movie trailer that made me think this was the next Platoon or Full Metal Jacket for god's sake haha, so I enjoyed it.

Another issue is WW1 movies are rather limited by technology. Might as well be watching a story set in the War of 1812.  :D

1917 is only getting buzz b/c it has an award-winning director behind it.  the movie is BULLSHIT!

I didn't say it had buzz, I said it didn't have the kind of buzz that would make me think it was in the top 5 war movies ever. I didn't even know who directed it tbh.

It was a middle of the road war movie - like most movies it was average but that didn't stop me from escaping reality for a bit, which is why I go to a movie in the first place.

"oscar worthy" now generally means everything but entertaining, very dry and forgotten within the year.Gone are the days when movies like goodfellas, shawshank and pulp fiction were nominated because they were just flat out amazing, and were not even trying to gain oscar buzz.

The last few years have been terrible for the Oscars.  Parasite was unique and a very good film this year, I hope it wins.

I didn’t think it was that bad, but it wasn’t great either. And that one dude getting smoked early surprised me. But yeah, not great.

You had Dunkirk on your list. I didn’t think that was all that great. And that weird high pitched noise playing in the background for the whole movie was silly.

Saving Private Ryan was probably one of the best.
