My vote would have to go to Brian Buchanan, due to his insanely small waist:
-
A photo of Frank McGrath at the 2004 Toronto Pro! Unfortunately, most copies of this photo seemed to have disappeared online when I tried to search them.
McGrath's physique [pronounced McGraw or Maggrah, not McGrath rhymes with wrath] was my favourite physique from the late paleolithic Ironage, for the same reasons why I was a fan of Brian Buchanan's physique - his tiny waist!
-
When did the Ironage take place?
-
What do you mean by "want?"
-
buchanan if not for sorta lesser legs should have done better placing wise with haney/christian /ect...he got bigger in 90's and lost that look a bit .

better build than ill ever have..but that waist looks weak to me.

When did the Ironage take place?
Not in 2004...or the 80s even.
-
If it was before steroids I would want to have a physique like Bobby Pandour.
-

;D Yeh, this point needs clarification LOL
(And can someone please post that shot of Buchanan's waist nowadays - thanks)

Yup. No contest as far as I am concerned.

Impressive physique but definitely not Ironage

What do you mean by "want?"
You damn we’ll know what Ms. Matt means!!! ;D

I don't find a really small waist to be aesthetically pleasing. There's a middle ground when it comes to waist size, Buchanan's waist looks weak. But that's just me.
Now McGrath, his new tattoos have given me some laughs. His IG has been blowing up with comments about illuminati and Satan worshiping :D

I always liked Mentzer's look. Tight, reasonably sized waist. Decent pecs, perhaps a little weak compared to his peers, but he also didn't have a lot of low pec hang, which I don't like. Great mustache genetics.

;D no homo ;D

When did the Ironage take place?
between 1200 BC & 600 BC :P

Tbf, he had a decent build.

Are you sure you're talking about the IRONAGE?
You may be referring to bodybuilding's GOLDEN AGE - that's a different era:
http://www.raw-iron.com
-
Some would argue that the Ironage started here, with this FLEX cover...does anyone have a more accurate time frame for the Ironage?
Also, read the picture file name. It's important.

No, not even close. The Ironage web site included Arnold but refused to allow talk about steroids.
So the pure Ironage is before Dianabol which is pre 1956.
A lot of confusion surrounds the topic of anabolic steroids. Testosterone was available since about 1940. No
info available about any bodybuilders using Testosterone in the 40's.

If not the beginning of, I would say the middle of the end. Drugs and the totally reliant addicts that (ab)use them are a disgrace to what was once upon a time called Physical Culture.
There are no "genetic freaks", only abusers. Take away their crutches and they would not train at all. These bloated idiots can barely breathe when they walk across a room. It's not healthy to be so frickin' heavy. Like John said, they are muscularly obese.
I don't "fear for their health". Fuck 'em.

Iron Cross, you know what laws are like on juicing down here! :'(
I wouldn't be opposed to some Increlex though.. Talking to this young guy his 20s in Melbourne, he is on TRT - but not just that. His endo is also putting him on Zomacton (I think) which is Somatropin!! :o

When I left Australia the whole compounding pharmacy wave was just beginning to get started. I was consulting to the very first one but I had a friend who opened his own and they were popping up everywhere. It didn't seem too difficult for anyone get a prescription written by an associated GP (many of whom knew nothing at all other than what the pharmacists marketed to them).
Not sure how the situation is now but I was kinda sad to leave when I did.
Here in Germany you try and talk to anyone about TRT and the first response you get is "only women need hormone replacement".

That's awesome, what is your background mate?
The situation is shitter I'd imagine. Harder and harder to find a doc who takes low testosterone seriously. Rare to find a doc that will prescribe, even if you fall within the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) guidelines (which continue to decrease, mind you).
Ah, Germany sounds in like with Australia then! :-\

That sounds shit. It was honestly like the Wild West in Melbourne between 2001 and 2007 or so.
I was working as a research naturopath, which sounds wanky but I came from a science background and I know what kind of shit gets passed off as legit clinical proof. I had a good business split between private practice, teaching and consulting to doctors and pharmacists who wanted to know more about things like herbal medicines and nutritional supplements but from an evidence based physiological perspective. I mixed with the compounding guys a lot because many of them were also wanting to recommend natural remedies to go with the other stuff they were doing.

Hell yes, but 'juice' market operates & is not too hard to get it.
Anti aging clinics have some good staff , it's legal but too price.
I would never tell anyone what to take !.

In Sydney I was 'shopping' (with prescription) at Compound Chemist in Neutral Bay & in 1 behind QVB !.
Now I prefer trips to Thailand & 3 monthly on/off system !.

This. Drugs have ruined physical culture and destroyed any chance of bodybuilding ever being considered a legit sport. A person certainly can train and eat like those in the Ironage and benefit greatly just like those guys did and not need drugs as a crutch.
