Iowa Democratic vote-reporting meltdown hands opening to Trump

(CNN)The Democratic 2020 crusade to oust President Donald Trump could not have got off to a more disastrous and embarrassing start.
The party couldn't even deliver a first-in-the-nation election night winner after a vote-reporting debacle in Iowa — where candidates spent months and millions of dollars vying for a glittering opening prize in their nominating duel.
"Iowa, you have shocked the nation," said former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg.
It was a bold attempt to declare victory in the absence of a result, but the 38-year-old inadvertently cast an ironic judgment on a political train wreck.
The big Hawkeye State miss will be agonizing for whoever comes out on top but for any candidates who under performed -- perhaps former Vice President Joe Biden -- it might turn into a priceless lifeline.
The caucus nightmare also played right into the hands of a President spoiling for months to brand his rivals as weak, disorganized and even worse — plotting to rig the results to hand its crown to an establishment favorite. There's little doubt that Trump, who consistently erodes distrust in institutions and governing systems, will weaponize such a narrative if it looks like he will lose in November.
Trump operatives are already spinning conspiracy theories and disinformation about what the Iowa Democratic Party said were "inconsistencies" in its results. Their aim is to create a narrative that tars the eventual nominee as illegitimate. And on the eve of his State of the Union address and two days before he's set to be acquitted in his impeachment trial, things cannot have worked out better for the President.

South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg declared himself the winner in Iowa after technical glitches and snafus prevented the state party from announcing any caucus results Monday night.
Buttigieg, who was hoping to get a boost out of the nation's first caucus state to drive past more seasoned rivals, went beyond any of the other Democratic presidential contenders his his caucus-night speech.
'We don't know all of the results. But we do know that by the time it's all said and done, Iowa: you have shocked the nation. Because by all indications we are going on to New Hampshire victorious,' Buttigieg told cheering supporters - in the kind of statement that might ordinarily follow a strong measure of public information.
Instead there was no official result in any form, and the Iowa Democratic Party rushed out a statement promising that they had not been hacked and would now be using paper results with a count which will stretch into daylight on Tuesday morning.

A viral claim by a conservative activist group that voter registration numbers in Iowa are suspiciously large ahead of the first U.S. presidential nominating contest on Monday is false, a senior state government official said, and called on the group to end its “misinformation campaign.”
Iowa’s Secretary of State Paul Pate, a Republican, said the claim by Washington D.C.-based group Judicial Watch that total registration numbers for caucuses in eight Iowa counties were larger than the eligible voter population had been disproven by official data.
“It’s unfortunate this organization continues to put out inaccurate data regarding voter registration, and it’s especially disconcerting they chose the day of the Iowa Caucus to do this,” Pate said in a news release posted on Twitter, criticizing their data as flawed.
“They should stop this misinformation campaign immediately.”
Judicial Watch’s Facebook post on Monday garnered 10,000 shares and, on Twitter, a tweet on Sunday from conservative student group Turning Point USA’s president Charlie Kirk sharing the same information has been retweeted more than 40,000 times.
Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton called Pate’s denial of its claim “shameful.”
“It is shameful that the secretary state of Iowa would mislead Iowans and Americans about the accuracy of the state’s registration rolls,” he said in a tweet.

DES MOINES, IOWA — Joe Biden’s campaign lawyer sent an excoriating late-night letter to the chair of Iowa’s Democratic Party over Monday’s caucus meltdown demanding an explanation for the delayed results.
Dana Remus, general counsel for the Biden campaign, lashed into Iowa Democrats for “acute failures” which forced candidates to take the stage just before midnight without any official results.
“We appreciate that you plan to brief the campaigns momentarily on these issues, and we plan to participate,” Remus wrote in the letter to party chair Troy Price and executive director Kevin Geiken, first reported by NBC News.
“However, we believe that the campaigns deserve full explanations and relevant information regarding the methods of quality control you are employing, and an opportunity to respond, before any official results are released,” she continued.
The party first blamed unspecified “quality checks” for the massively delayed results before pinning the problem on “inconsistencies on the data” after using a new phone app which reportedly failed.
Results were expected to start streaming in as Iowans caucused at 7 p.m. local time, with the final results expected around 10 p.m.
But only 25 percent of Iowa’s 1,765 precincts had been collected by that point — meaning none of the campaigns could declare victory.
Des Moines County Chair Tom Courtney said an app created to report results was “a mess” and caucus organizers were reduced to having to phone in their results to state party headquarters, which was, at times, too busy to pick up.
“The app that was intended to relay Caucus results to the Party failed; the Party’s back-up telephonic reporting system likewise has failed,” Remus continued.
“In the meantime, we are on to New Hampshire, on the road to the most important election of our lifetimes,” she wrote later.
Candidates for the first time left Iowa for New Hampshire with no clear idea of who won.

If you believe a single word the Democrat Party is telling you about the Iowa Caucus results, please give me a call because boy, do I have a deal on some Central Texas property for you.
No, seriously, if you believe anything the Democrat Party tells you, then you certainly are buying the propaganda from the Chinese government that it, like, totally has that coronavirus awesomely under control. I know, right?
If you believe the Democrat Party today, then you no doubt believed Adam Schiff on Monday when he said that President Trump will give Alaska away to the Russians unless the Senate removes him from office. If you believe the Democrat Party today, then you were no doubt completely reassured last night when Fox News brought out former DNC Chairman Donna Brazile – who fed Hillary Clinton debate questions in advance and played a major role in rigging the party’s 2016 nominating process against Bernie Sanders – to reassure us that, hey, don’t worry, everything’s on the up and up out there in Iowa.
Folks, we are talking about counting maybe, what, 40,000 total votes here? 50,000 tops? I personally could have had it all totaled up, precinct by precinct, candidate by candidate, wrapped it and put a bow on it by about 10 p.m. CT last night using an abacus. I could have had it all done with a telephone, a pencil, a note pad and my aging brain by 10:30.
But the Democrat Party, the Party that has already clearly and unambiguously demonstrated to the world that it had no compunction whatsoever about rigging its nominating process in 2016, doing its best to rig the general election a few months later that year, and working its ass off to rig this year’s process to prevent an outright takeover by The Commie and his Marxist hordes, tells us that the whole thing fell apart last night because some smart phone app created by a company owned by Hillary Clinton operatives failed, and we’re supposed to just say, yeah, ok, you guys wouldn’t lie, would you? C’mon.
What, because a smart phone app fails, the party’s precinct chairmen are too stupid and dependent on technology that they are no longer capable of actually dialing a phone number and calling in their results? Most of these precincts only had a few dozen people show up. Maybe half of them had to count numbers into the hundreds. Only a handful had to count above 1,000.
But we’re supposed to believe that hey, a smart phone app failed, so it’s totes reasonable that nobody knows who did what this morning. Has the entire state of Iowa turned into Palm Beach and Broward County?
Or maybe the Democrat Party has now so devolved into leftist dogma that it really just wanted to create the situation we saw last night where everyone walked away with a participation trophy. We had the spectacle of no fewer than three candidates – Preacher Pete, The Commie and Lieawatha – declaring victory.
Quid Pro Joe – who by all anecdotal reports finished a poor fourth in most precincts – didn’t declare victory, but he did tell his few dozen demented followers that “we will walk away with our share” of delegates. No one knows what the Unfrozen Caveman Senator meant by that, and neither does he.
I warned you on Sunday that all the signs of this thing being rigged were out there, and here we sit this morning, with all the signs of its still being rigged having come about. It’s obvious that Party leaders didn’t like the way the actual caucus voting process went, so they are in the process of creating a final outcome that they can live with, and working hard to make sure that everyone involved fully understands the talking points before they make that outcome public. This is just how these corrupt people operate.
And hey, the DNC literally owns this nominating process, so they can rig it any way they want to. What the rest of us need to understand is that, if we keep electing Democrats to office, our general elections will be rigged in the same manner. Hell, they’ve already been able to make that happen in parts of Florida, Arizona and California. If we don’t stop them, it’s just a matter of time before the entire country is rigged.
As we watch this rigging process play itself out, everyone needs to take a moment to reflect on the fact that the people who are claiming they are incapable of counting 50,000 votes without a smart phone app are the very same people who want to be in charge of your health care. Breathtaking.
They won’t stop, until they are stopped.

It was an embarrassing twist after months of promoting the contest as a chance for Democrats to find some clarity in a jumbled field with no clear front-runner.
Instead, caucus day ended with no winner, no official results and many fresh questions about whether Iowa can retain its coveted “first” status.

Maxwell isn't the only person to say this on cable news, though. CNN's Van Jones said something similar. They both claim that making Iowa the first primary state is racist, because it's predominantly white. And I know that Maxwell and Jones are correct in saying so, because I'm white and they're not. I'm not allowed to disagree with them.

#MayorCheat Trends After Buttigieg Campaign Is Tied to Company Behind Iowa Caucus App Failure

The hashtag #MayorCheat trended Tuesday on Twitter after reports that former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg’s campaign paid tens of thousands of dollars to the company that developed the app that was supposed to streamline the reporting of Iowa caucus results but instead failed, throwing the results of the caucus into question.
Federal Election Commission (FEC) records showed that Pete for America Inc. paid at least $21,250.00 to Shadow Inc. on July 23, 2019, for “software rights and subscriptions.”
A few months after that, in November and December 2019, the Iowa Democratic Party (IDP) paid tech company Shadow Inc. more than $60,000 to develop the app that Iowa Democrat caucus leaders were supposed to use to upload their results, according to HuffPost.
The app’s failure caused a massive delay in reporting the final results of the Iowa Democrat caucus, in which 2020 candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) was expected to do well, according to polls and preliminary results.
Precinct chairs reportedly could not log into the app, or after logging in, received errors when trying to report results. The technical problems led some chairs to call in results and in some cases, be placed on hold for more than an hour waiting for an IDP official to answer.
Despite the delay in reporting results, Buttigieg delivered a speech around 11:30 p.m. in which he seemed to declare victory.
“Iowa, you have shocked the nation,” he began. “With hope in our hearts and fire in our bellies, we’re going on to New Hampshire … to chart a new course for our country.”
Sanders supporters directed their anger towards Buttigieg after reports and tweets emerged that showed his campaign had paid tens of thousands of dollars to Shadow Inc.
According to those reports, the company is run by a number of former Hillary Clinton campaign staff members. The chief executive officer is Gerard Niemira, a veteran of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, according to his LinkedIn page.

I'm not the only one sharing this screen shot, but it seems important for this to get around to as many people as possible.
This is the "About" page for Shadow Inc, which was contracted to make the app for #IowaCaucuses. No staff named. This outfit is inexcusably secretive.

If you haven't been following the news about the 2020 Iowa Democratic caucuses, I'll try to sum it up with a quote from the classic film Idiocracy: Their $#!+ is all retarded. Nobody knows what's going on. It's chaos and pandemonium. Backbiting and recriminations. They're really embarrassed themselves, and it's making them very very angry. In other words, it's absolutely marvelous. I haven't stopped smiling all day.

MSNBC's Zerlina Maxwell... knows whose fault this fiasco is. HINT: It rhymes with "white steeple."
"Maybe I'll be the only person to say this today. The Iowa caucus is essentially the perfect example of systemic racism. 91% of the voters in Iowa are white. The reason why you see a drop in turnout -- I'm just speculating here -- it could be perhaps that white children are not in the cages. So when you're talking about the tangible pain that black and brown people are feeling, they feel a sense of urgency because their kids are being put in cages. Right? And so if you have a 91% white electorate, that sense of urgency may not be reflected in the turnout numbers. I'm not saying that's the reason for this. It could be a factor."
Maxwell isn't the only person to say this on cable news, though. CNN's Van Jones said something similar. They both claim that making Iowa the first primary state is racist, because it's predominantly white. And I know that Maxwell and Jones are correct in saying so, because I'm white and they're not. I'm not allowed to disagree with them.
So listen up, Iowa Democrats. This is your wakeup call. ... If you didn't want to get called out for your systemic racism, you shouldn't have decided to be white.

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow grilled Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Tom Perez over the low turnout at Monday's Iowa caucuses, pointing out how Democrats "didn't turn out in droves" like in previous election cycles.
Whiles technical errors with the voting system have plagued the Democrat Party over the past several days, some on the left are sounding the alarms after early results from the Iowa caucuses draw a parallel to the 2016 turnout, which was roughly 170,000 voters.
In 2008, there were nearly 240,000 voters.

Tired of all this WINNING yet? – All major stock indexes – the Dow, the NASDAQ and the S&P 500 – closed a record highs on Thursday yet again as the Trump economy keeps chugging along. Wednesday’s ADP private sector jobs report for January came in at a whopping 291,000 jobs added, almost doubling “expert” projections of 150,000. That news, of course, was ignored by our corrupt national news media. The Labor Department non-farm jobs report comes out this morning.
The Commie declares “victory” in Iowa. – Why? Because he won. At least, he won by any rational measure. That measure would be the actual number of people who came out and cast their first round and second round lots with the old Bolshevik.
The Commie won the first round of voting by more than 6,000 over second place Preacher Pete, and then, after the non-viable candidates were eliminated and their voters had to either re-pledge themselves to other candidates or go home, The Commie won the second round by a more narrow margin. It was then and only then that the “counters” from the DNC running the Iowa process were able to rig a miniscule “win” for Preacher Pete, somehow managing through an allocation process no one understands to award 26.2% of the state delegates to the failed Mayor of South Ben to 26.1% for the do-nothing Senator from Vermont.
Tom Perez, the utterly corrupt head of the DNC, was so upset by Sanders’ victory declaration that he immediately ordered his toadies out in Iowa to re-canvass the vote. He does that not on the belief that it would somehow change any of the confused outcome, but in order to throw even more confusion into the process in order to further obscure Sanders’ clear win.
Because, hey, if they can’t rig the outcome they prefer, the next best thing is to coordinate with their media toadies to confuse the public about who really won. This is your Democrat Party in action. It’s all very transparent if you just pay attention.
But all this confusion over who “won” in Iowa kind of misses the point, anyway. There were two big stories coming out of that fiasco, both of them terrible news for the Democrats and the DNC:
Total voter turnout was somewhere around 170,000, which puts it in line with the Democrat turnout in Iowa for 2012, when Barack Hussein Obama His Own Self was running unopposed. Party officials had speculated that turnout would compare to the 2008 turnout, when almost 240,000 Iowans showed up to pick between Obama and the Fainting Felon. This low turnout number indicates a party headed for a sea-change loss election in November. Thus, it has been largely ignored by the corrupt news media. Joe Biden is in free-fall now. He failed to win a single county or a single national delegate under the party’s Byzantine formula for allocation of delegates, even though he did receive slightly above 15% of the vote, at least if you believe the DNC “counters,” which you should not. This is terrible news for the DNC and the party’s major donor base, who had held out hope that Biden would be able to stave off The Commie. Biden’s numbers are also now collapsing in other early primary states. In the two most recent polls out of New Hampshire, he comes in at just 11%, not even half of The Commie’s level of support. In South Carolina, where Biden has consistently held a 25-30% margin thanks to heavy support in that state’s Black community, a new Zogby Analytics poll shows his lead sitting at just 8% over The Commie. A recent Post and Courier poll pegs his lead at just 5%. Polls show Quid Pro Joe and The Commie running neck and neck in Nevada, the only other contest before Super Tuesday.
Right now it appears likely that Biden will run no better than a poor 4th place in New Hampshire, and probably will not win any delegates there, either. That from the guy that the DNC has promoted for 10 solid months as its most “electable” candidate. If the bottom falls out up there, then it seems possible now that the Unfrozen Caveman Senator could even lose in South Carolina and go into Super Tuesday without having won a single contest. If that happens, he is well and truly done.
Biden’s problem is simple: He is clearly too old and infirm for the job. That is obvious to anyone who actually pays attention to him. While Sanders is a little bit older than Quid Pro Joe, he at least is holding things together, despite his heart incident last October. But Biden often doesn’t know where he is on any given day, and increasingly looks lost while speaking to his paltry audiences.
He was able to get away with all of that up until voters actually began paying attention to the race, which has really just begun to happen over the last few weeks, as the caucus and primary contests approach. Voters are now tuning in, and what they see in Biden obviously disturbs them.
The reality of Biden – as opposed to the myth of “electability” that he and the DNC have promoted since last April – combined with the months-long headlines about his and Hunter Biden’s looting of the Ukraine while he served as Vice President, is why his numbers are in free-fall.
A reader asked yesterday if Biden would turn out to be this election cycle’s Jeb! Bush. I replied that he already is, but he just hasn’t quite figured it out yet. Jeb! himself didn’t figure it out until it was already over for him. Biden will, however, figure it out soon, perhaps after a loss in South Carolina, or no later than what will almost certainly become a disastrous showing on Super Tuesday.

Absurdly claims calls made after Shadow app failure affected vote count.
Rachel Maddow blamed anonymous messageboard 4Chan for the debacle in Iowa, claiming that a handful of calls ‘clogged up’ the Iowa Democratic Party phone lines.
The delay in reporting the results of the Iowa caucus was blames on “reporting issues” related to an app called Shadow which is owned by Buttigieg supporter Tara McGowan.
However, this didn’t stop Maddow from claiming that 4Channers were to blame for calling Democratic Party phone lines to sow confusion, despite it being acknowledged that this occurred after the problem with the app had been made public.
“Firstly, the caucus was over, and Dems had to call in because their other tech failed,” the Daily Caller’s Chuck Ross noted. “But even crazier, Maddow compared all of this to the 2002 New Hampshire phone jamming scandal, in which, completely unlike Iowa, GOP operatives robo-called Democrats’ get-out-the-vote call centers *before* a Senate election.”
Ross accused Maddow of engaging in “pure disinformation” in front of an audience of millions.
The MSNBC host made the bizarre claims despite her own colleagues at the network debunking 4chan’s involvement earlier in the day.
Just be glad that Maddow didn’t blame “Russian bots” for the shambles as many on Twitter did earlier this week.

Documents reveal DNC was 'intimately involved' in development of troubled Iowa caucus app
While the Democratic National Committee over the past 10 days has tried to distance itself from the troubled app that threw the results of the Iowa caucuses into disarray, a copy of the contract and internal correspondence provided to Yahoo News demonstrates that national party officials had extensive oversight over the development of the technology.
An unaffiliated Democratic operative in Iowa provided Yahoo News with a copy of the contract between Shadow and the Iowa Democratic Party. The contract, which was signed on Oct. 14, 2019, and refers to Shadow as the “Consultant,” specified that the company had to work with the DNC and provide the national party with access to its software for testing.
“Consultant agrees to work with the DNC Services Corporation / Democratic National Committee (‘DNC’) on an on-going basis as Consultant develops the software,” the contract reads.
The contract also specifies that Shadow agrees to “provide DNC continual access to review the Consultant’s system configurations, security and system logs, system designs, data flow designs, security controls (preventative and detective), and operational plans for how the Consultant will use and run the Software for informational dissemination, pre-registration, tabulation, and reporting throughout the caucus process.”
