"If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did," he tells the magazine. "There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, 'OK, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry.'"
Wahlberg has spoken before of the near-miss, and the action he would have taken had he been on the flight.
"We certainly would have tried to do something to fight," he said in 2006. "I've had probably over 50 dreams about it."

There was a thread about this nearly a decade ago

I believe Marky would have kicked some azz.

Damn right!

Why is he obsessed with this, was he supposed to be on the plane or something?
I think now we know how these flights ended, most would be doing something about it. I’m sure these guys were cool and calm and reassuring everybody they were going to be alright. I mean, before that happened, who ever thought of being on a plane being used as a missile?
-
Do you know who was supposed to be on that plane? Seth McFarlane. Creator of the Family Guy. True story. He actually partied hard the night before and slept in and missed his flight.
-
Yeah, nah.
He isn't thinking it through correctly. He is imagining the situation without thinking about the unknown element of being on that plane and not knowing what is happening.
Pre 911, if you were on a plane with a bunch of hijackers who are likely lying to you saying, we just want to get our fella out of jail, not going to do anything to you, you'd be thinking - okay, if I attack these fuckers, maybe nobody can fly this plane.
Post 911, yeah, sure, you're going to fight.
So he's right, if it was post 911, a lot of people would fight. If it was pre 911, my feeling is that you'd be outnumbered by people who are unfortunately of the belief that they are not absolutely dead and the best course of action is to comply.

You seem ignorant of the part where the terrorists told everyone to call their loved ones and say goodbye. I'm pretty sure Mark Wahlberg thinks on a very different level than yourself. Google his net worth then log off.

I am ignorant of that, is that true?
I'm pretty sure I'm an ugly fucker with a extremely capable brain, but thanks for the suggestion.

Yes - at least that is what has been alleged about Wahlberg. I read that online more than once. It may have even been on his IMDB page at one point, but I did for sure read it online. Whether or not it is true is another story.
Speaking of Mark Wahlberg - he looked great in "FEAR" [1996] with Reese Witherspoon. She was in the movie "Legally Blonde" in 2001, which came out in theatres only a month or two before 9/11.
If anyone has watched the movie, you may recall the scene where she pretended to be extremely attracted to one of the geeky/nerdy guys.
It turns out that his mother passed away on one of the hijacked 9/11 planes.
The DB Cooper case was the last example of a person who managed to hijack a plane for the sake of acquiring a ransom. I happen to love the original Unsolved Mysteries series with Robert Stack [season one of a rebooted version of UM has just completed filming], and this 1988 episode that featured DB Cooper was really good [IMO]:
Interesting that the last successful example of a plane being hijacked for a ransom happened in 1971, just days before Mark Wahlberg turned six months old. ;D
As to whether or not he - or anyone - would have fought...I hadn't thought of it the way that rocket presented it:
Generally, you think that by cooperating with perpetrators of crime, that they will let you survive. That is not always the case though - for example, with Ted Bundy, he tended to not attack women who fought back. I guess he wanted them to be crying and be engaging with him in a submissive way, as per his sick sexual fantasies. Apparently when women fought back, Ted Bundy would flee.
So in that case, fighting back was a good thing, although in other cases, such as the Connecticut River Valley Killer, he stabbed Jane Boroski 27 times, before finally stopping - and he only finally stopped because Jane stopped fighting back. :(
That case is so sad...it was another case that was covered on Unsolved Mysteries, and is currently on YouTube, if anyone is interested [Unsolved Mysteries with Robert Stack - Season 4, Episode 4 - Full Episode]. The fact that that case is still currently unsolved makes it even more sad.

Stop wandering. This thread is about Wahlberg.
I'll cut out the truly irrelevant part, about the woman who died on one of the 9/11 planes, who was the mother of the actor who was in the movie "Legally Blonde" with Reese Witherspoon, just because she happened to co-star in the movie "FEAR" [1996] with Mark Wahlberg. And then I'll cut out the part about how much I like Unsolved Mysteries. So my new chopped up thread still reads somewhat the same, but is much shorter, having dropped from 467 words 2,605 characters, down to 228 words 1,255 characters.
That's a 51.1% drop in words, and a 51.8% drop in characters!
Sheesh...

And then I would have added:
"But fighting back is usually a good thing - but as rocket suggested, you would likely assume that complying would result in your survival. Most people would likely not have known that the terrorists/hijackers were suicidal."
Brevity has NEVER been my thing, but that post was straight up out of hand, and literally my second post of the night.
Normally, I'm ok with posting like that on Facebook, because people can just ignore my posts. And while people can still ignore my posts here, it can be annoying to have to scroll down through a lot of irrelevant content.
I just type so damn fast that I could be typing for just a few minutes and already be penning a post that is way out of hand, length-wise.
It's just something that I will always have to monitor and attempt to keep in check, but will likely never be able to, lol. I guess also - because I like typing.

To be fair, it's about Wahlberg's hindsight heroism, regarding the 9/11 flight he was alleged to have been scheduled to be on [but apparently opted to drive to Boston instead, IIRC - or something like that].
So I think talking about DB Cooper was ok, given that was the last successful hijacking of a plane that resulted in a ransom.
I also agree with rocket, that most people would likely assume that cooperating with a hijacker/terrorist would result in their lives being spared/saved.
I don't think the intuitive thing would be to predict that the terrorists were on a suicide mission. So I agree with rocket on this one. Hard to say though.
I do think Mark Wahlberg is a tough guy - as a result of growing up on the streets. I also think that he has been in shape for most of his life, and is strong. Do I think he would have saved the airplane? It's hard to know for sure, but I would guess no.

Not true. Whalberg was booked on flight 11, the first to hit the towers.Nobody had a clue they were going to be flown in to a building.About the closest was a stewardess on the phone saying they were too low and over a city.Whalberg would have sat there like everyone else thinking they would safely land, and eventually be allowed off once the terrorists made their point.Flight 175, the 2nd plane to hit the towers, a few of the passengers got wind that the plane was possibly going to be used to be flown in to a building, with one passenger who thought the target was Chicago. The passengers on the left side of the plane at the windows would have almost certainly have seen the North tower on fire as they banked sharpely left on the final few seconds, many probably realising what was about to unfold.

Don't be ridiculous - marky mark would have read their minds, disarmed them and then landed the plane, himself. That's just the kind of guy he is.

I dig several Marky Mark flicks, but I absolutely believe he’s “compromised” in Hollyweird.
For a great many years I’ve wondered, Why him? How does THIS particular guy get so many breaks/publicity?
The actual acting part ... Acting, as a creative talent, is bottom-of-the-barrel. Marky is no better or worse than tens of millions around the globe.
He’s modestly handsome, I guess (no homo). There are millions of better looking, though.
He’s short.
What’s the deal?
Somewhere, with someone (some people), he’s “played the game”.
There’s no other explanation.

Success in Hollyweird is just plain luck/right place right time/you know someone.
Some acting skill is required but there's thousands of decent actors trying to make it.

exactly 5 ft 6 and a half

Charisma plus good looks.Very few people on earth are charasmatic enough to hold the audiences attention and not look out of place as a leading man in a Hollywood movie.Sad but true.Even hyper good looking chads like mad mens john hamm dont look right as hollywood leading men.Truly need that "X-factor".

Yeah Marky Mark would have saved the day just like in his movies. ::) Just think if Steven Seagal was on one of the flights, he would have killed all the terrorists with his bare hands then took over the controls in the cockpit and landed the plane in the river or a field and no one would have had a scratch on them. We should have a Hollywood actor on all flights to protect us.

Uuhhhmmm....Sorry to intrude on your big moment here but you're wrong. Seagal is the real deal. CIA, black bag work in Cambodia, Aikido master....not a run of the mill Hollywood "star". More like a human killing machine.

I never got his name Marky Mark. Its the name Mark with a y on the end, followed again by the same name. It is neither fresh nor fly. Try it with your own name and I'm sure you'll agree that it is redundantly redundant to the point of being oddly odd.

Con Air.

I love when "actors" pretend to be tough guys. Oh brother ::), gayer than a 5'5, former underwear manlet pretending to have a chance against numerous killers.
Had there been trained fighters or law enforcement agents (more than 1) sitting in first class, then maybe it would have gone differently.
