He was before his time.  Nowadays he'd be a huge action star.

Just watched Columbo episode he was on. Gym owner, Vitamin pusher, fancy office, like Joe Weider.
He's on the phone at his desk, and he's talking to "Arnold" during his conversation.

Lol!  That's hilarious you mentioned that.  Had it not been for your post, I wouldn't have known he actually was in an episode of Columbo.

The reason why was because when I saw the photos of Conrad, including the Ironage photos, I immediately recalled an Ironage episode of Columbo from season seven called "Make Me a Perfect Murder".  I thought he acted in that episode as the character "Mark", but upon reviewing Ironage photos from the episode, and looking up the cast list, I realized I was wrong.  But low and behold, thanks to your post, I learned that Conrad was in a Columbo episode.

Here is the person I was confusing him with - Laurence Luckinbill, who played the character Mark in the Ironage Columbo episode that I mentioned above - "Make Me a Perfect Murder" from season seven:

IMO, I can forgive myself for confusing Robert Conrad with Laurence Luckinbill.  Both are Ironage actors born within ten weeks of one another, who are stoic leading men who look like they would have cleft chins, but don't [although Conrad appears to have one in some pictures].

If there are any other fans of Columbo here, I highly recommend Season 7, Episode 5 of Columbo: "The Conspirators".

I agree.  To those of us of a certain age, Conrad was one of the first action stars.

I recall that episode and how Columbo solved it.  Great episode.

Do you mean Columbo/Peter Falk was too grizzled in the newer episodes?

If so, I agree - I prefer the Ironage episodes too.

Columbo episodes are literally the only "tv" I've watched recently.  He was Milo Janus, possibly a nod to Milo Steinborn, and had a spiel where he became indignant whenever clients found out he was overcharging them.  "I have to maintain quality!"

I saw him as Vic Tanny inspired except for the murder and bad business practices :D . Tanny had high pressure sales which brought some heat though.

I'll have to check that one out. The last one I saw was one of the Patrick McGoohan ones, called "By the Dawn's Early Light".

Here's a bunch of episodes for anyone interested. I think you may have to sign up(free, just register like a forum) but I watched a bunch of them before I did.  https://archive.org/details/columbo_480p_bak (https://archive.org/details/columbo_480p_bak)

Jeeze man, it's gotten to a point where anybody that works out and gets a little bit of muscle with visible abs is juicing.

Whenever I hear someone say this about that type of physique I just automatically assume they, themselves, look like shit. I've never been wrong.

Even today, only after thirty years from his passing did people start accusing Bruce Lee of using steroids. All 5'6" 135 lbs of him.

I was a huge fan of "Wild, Wild West" when I was a kid. Robert Conrad was bad ass and had some great fight scenes.

Conrad had a bad car accident over a decade ago. I think he required an assistant from then on.

He had a regular podcast, or something like that, that I caught a couple times(like 10 years ago/after accident). I got the idea he was grumpy in real life or that was kind of his schtick.

Side note: I don't even think he lifted much or at all when he was younger. He was very athletic, did situps, pushups, bodyweight pullups, etc....

https://archive.org/details/4.1AnExerciseInFatility <----- That should link to it.

The Columbo you guys are looking for is Season 4, Episode 1 "A Exercise in Fatility" with Conrad as Milo Janus. It's a fun episode lots of red naugahyde and chrome in the gym, it looked like one of the old Tanny franchises.

Another film, if you can find it, that he was kinda good in, is the adaption of G Gordon Liddy's Will -

He was in another watchable movie where he and Lee Majors played serial killers. I think it was made for television. Conrad played a remorseless sadist and Majors was a bad guy with a conscience.

I’d be grumpy too if I lost a 100-yard race to a remedial high school teacher.

“I’m German - I vant to kill both of them!”

Lynda Carter was smokin’ hot!

RIP
Penny Marshall
Richard Hatch
Bruce Jenner
Bob Conrad
Ron Howard’s hair
Telly Savalas
Robert Hegyes
Farrah Fawcett

Good find.

Lynda Carter was amazing. Model skinny but naturally large breasts. Tall, tiny waist and beautiful.

It isn't the size it's the look.his pics shows a very obvious sign of usage.no he isn't huge,no he isn't lean as piss.Just has a look that naturals don't have.

It's funny how you mentioned that Columbo looked too grizzled in the later episodes.  I agree.  There were some episodes made in 1989 where I thought he looked fine, but I think in episodes from the one where George Wendt showed up in 1995 and anything beyond that, Columbo looked too grizzled/weathered as you said.

LOL, your post reminds me of this HILARIOUS Conor McGregor clip.

Note what is said very early on in the clip:

"Grizzled VETSCH."

And what look is that? What is it that shows obvious use? I think a lot of people who don't work out or work out and just are not good responders claim that anyone with a half-decent physique is juicing so they can feel better about themselves. Where do you live? Here in Hawaii I can go to any beach on the weekend and see guys with much better physiques that they got just from surfing.

If you don't think this type of build can be achieved naturally then you must have the shittiest genetics ever or don't know how to train and eat.

Steroids?  Really?  That is a guy that works out. If you need steroids for that physique then lifting and cardio doesn't work. Don't blame your skinny fat body on the fact you don't use steroids. Geeze, I'm in my 60's and I'm better built than Conrad in that picture and I have never used steroids or testosterone replacement.

LOL! I can't count the number of times I've seen guys with visible abs just because they are skinny being accused of being on steroids. It's always the from the guys that look like shit. Conrad in this pic has no visible abs and no appreciable amount of muscle. Just someone who maybe does calisthenics and doesn't eat like a pig. In fact, if you're young and have decent genetics you don't even have to work out to look like that if you don't eat like a pig.

"He has that look of someone on steroids." LOL!

And this was another guy they now accuse of using steroids. And he was, in fact, an avid weight lifter.
