Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's wife has tested positive for the new coronavirus, his office announced Thursday night.
It said Sophie Grégoire Trudeau was felling well and would remain in isolation.
"The Prime Minister is in good health with no symptoms. As a precautionary measure and following the advice of doctors, he will be in isolation for a planned period of 14 days," the statement added.

His office said the doctor's advice to the prime minister is to continue daily activities while self-monitoring, given that he is exhibiting no symptoms himself.
“Also on the advice of doctors, he will not be tested at this stage since he has no symptoms. For the same reason, doctors say there is no risk to those who have been in contact with him recently,” the statement said.
The office said he would resume his duties Friday.
Trudeau's wife issued a statement thanking those who have reached out.
"Although I'm experiencing uncomfortable symptoms of the virus, I will be back on my feet soon," she said. “Being in quarantine at home is nothing compared to other Canadian families who might be going through this and for those facing more serious health concerns.”
Though self-quarantining himself, the prime minister is spending the day in briefings, phone calls and virtual meetings from home, including speaking with other world leaders and joining a special Cabinet committee discussion on the coronavirus. Trudeau spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
But Trudeau did cancel an in-person meeting with Canada's provincial premiers.
Opposition NDP leader Jagmeet Singh was also working from home after feeling unwell. Singh said he had been in contact with a doctor and they do not believe he has the virus but was advised to limit contact with the public until he feels better.
Ontario, Canada's most populous province, is closing schools until April 5.
Quebec Premier Francois Legault is asking all people returning from travel abroad to self-isolate for 14 days. The measure will be mandatory for all government employees.
He is also asking organizers to cancel all indoor events attracting crowds of more than 250 people and all other large gatherings that are not considered essential. Alberta and British Columbia are also urging all events with more than 250 people be cancelled.
British Columbia's health officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, said the province is “strongly advising” people to not travel outside Canada, including to the U.S, and said anyone who chooses to do so should self-isolate for 14 days upon return.
“That means no trips to Disneyland, no trips to Paris or Berlin or Boise,” British Columbia Health Minister Adrian Dix said. “Anyone who chooses to travel outside of Canada must stay away from work or school or 14 days upon their return. That responsibility is what we owe to our fellow citizens.”
Henry said there has not been widespread community transmission of the virus in Canada, unlike in the U.S.
"We've been watching what's happening in Washington state and have been in contact with our colleagues in Washington state. What became apparent to me over the last 24 hours is the extent of the community spread in many, many, many different communities in the U.S.," Henry said.
Canada has more than 140 confirmed cases, with one death — an elderly nursing home resident in British Columbia. The United States has had 40 deaths, with more than three-fourths of them in Washington state. As of Thursday afternoon, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported about 1,260 U.S. illnesses.
Alberta Premier Jason Kenney also asked people to self-isolate if they are returning from overseas.
"We are now recommending that anybody over the age of 65 to avoid traveling outside the province if they can avoid it," Kenney said.

He then stressed that namecalling, including labeling the virus as the "Chinese Virus," is an unnecessary distinction that is only meant to further divide between people during a difficult time.
Kim's reveal comes on the same day where his former Lost co-star Evangeline Lilly posted on Instagram revealing that she dropped her children off at a camp with the hashtag "business as usual." The post prompted tons of criticism on social media, with many chiding Lilly for not taking care and self-quarantining.

Shortly after being sentenced to 23 years in prison for two felony sex crimes, former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The report comes from Deadline, who suggests Weinstein is one of two prisoners at New York's Wende Correctional Facility to test positive for the disease. Prior to his transfer to Wende — which is located east of Buffalo — Weinstein was being held at New York City's Rikers Island, where upwards of 40 inmates have tested positive for the coronavirus as of this writing.
Due to the confidentiality surrounding health diagnoses, New York's Department of Correction was unable to confirm the report. "Our team...has not heard anything like that yet," Weinstein's PR boss Juda Engelmayer told the Hollywood tabloid. "I can't tell you what I don't know," another assistant added.
Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison earlier this month after a jury found him guilty of rape in the third degree and a criminal sexual act in the first degree. In total, the disgraced Hollywood elite had been charged with five charges, including three counts of predatory sexual assault. He was first charged by the New York County District Attorney on May 25, 2018 seven months after The New York Times' Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey published a story detailing Weinstein's sexual harassment and assault of dozens of actresses over the span of three decades. The Times and The New Yorker subsequently won Pulitzer Prizes for Public Service in 2018 for the coverage of the producer. Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), who was the only senator to oppose a coronavirus relief package last month, announced Sunday that he has tested positive for the virus.
“He is feeling fine and is in quarantine,” an announcement on his Twitter said. “He is asymptomatic and was tested out of an abundance of caution due to his extensive travel and events.”
It added, “He expects to be back in the Senate after his quarantine period ends and will continue to work for the people of Kentucky at this difficult time.”
Paul, a physician who has a Kentucky-issued medical license, was the only senator to vote against an $8.3 billion emergency coronavirus package. He also was one of the eight senators who voted against paid sick leave in a stimulus bill that passed with an overwhelming 90-8 vote last week.
“I think that the paid sick leave is an incentive for businesses to actually let go employees and will make unemployment worse,” Paul explained to Newsweek.
Paul is the first senator to test positive for the novel coronavirus. Two other members of congress, Reps. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) and Ben McAdams (D-UT), have also gone public with positive test results.
According to the World Health Organization, the COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, is particularly dangerous for people with lung problems. In August of 2019, Paul had part of his lung removed because it was injured when he was attacked by his neighbor Rene Boucher in a dispute over lawn care.
Second Member of Congress Tests Positive for COVID-19
On March 2, Paul appeared on Fox News and downplayed the global threat of the coronavirus.
“While it is worldwide, I think there is room for optimism that this thing may plateau out in a few weeks and not be as bad it as it may have been portrayed,” he said to host Neil Cavuto. “We’ve seen pockets of this around the world and even in Italy and Iran where we have it, but none of it is approaching what started in China.”
When asked about institutions taking larger measures to limit the spread of the virus, Paul was resistant to the idea. “I think closing down the Smithsonians would be way too premature and I wouldn’t advise something like that.”
And when Cavuto asked Paul about making personal adjustments to avoid infection, the Senator was particularly defiant. “I mean, I fly all the time and I’m not cutting back on my flying... I was on a plane today,” he said. “I could be wrong and this could be really bad in two or three weeks or a month, but I’m hoping it’s not going to be. I’m not ready to buy all the toilet paper at Target.”
The senator’s father, Dr. Ron Paul, is a physician and a former Republican congressman for Texas. Last week, he wrote an essay titled The Coronavirus Hoax for the New River Valley News, a local outlet based in Virginia.
“People should ask themselves whether this coronavirus ‘pandemic’ could be a big hoax, with the actual danger of the disease massively exaggerated by those who seek to profit—financially or politically—from the ensuing panic,” the senator’s father wrote.
As of Sunday afternoon, there are 30,000 COVID-19 cases in the U.S., and nearly 400 people have died.

After a short stay on the island prison, he is heading to the Wende Correctional Facility in Alden, New York.
Under the policy that they “cannot comment on an individual’s medical record,” New York State’s Department of Corrections representatives did not respond to request for direct confirmation. “Our team …has not heard anything like that yet,” said Weinstein PR chief Juda Engelmayer on Sunday. “I can’t tell you what I don’t know,” the producer’s personal rep added.
Moved to Wende on March 18, the just turned 68 years old Weinstein is one of two prisoners at the 961 capacity maximum security facility just east of Buffalo who was put in isolation after testing positive for the coronavirus.
As the global pandemic spreads and surges, New York state has taken the biggest hit domestically of the ever expanding coronavirus. To that, he more than 43,000 prisoners in the state’s already over burdened system are increasingly seen as a high risk category. Already around 40 inmates at Rikers have reportedly been found positive for COVID-19 in the past week, coinciding with Weinstein’s time in that NYC Hellhole.
It is unclear if Weinstein himself contracted the disease at the East River complex or when he was in hospital in Manhattan over the past few weeks.
In a testament to the power of local journalism, among other things, the Niagara Gazette first reported Weinstein’s condition earlier today
On February 24, the once mercurial mogul was found guilty by a New York jury of two sex crime felony charges after a nearly six week trial. Allegedly hobbled by health issues and often in court with a much mocked walker, Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years behind bars on March 11.
Suffering from chest pains, the Pulp Fiction producer was back in NYC’s Bellevue that same day for second stint, literally. First admitted to America’s oldest public hospital almost immediately after being convicted late last month, Weinstein had only been out of Bellevue a mere six days. A few days after the second Bellevue sojourn, Weinstein was moved again to Rikers’ vast North Infirmary Command, where he remained until the move to Wende last week.
In an America that has already shut down in many respects, today’s news will add a further complication, to put it mildly, to plans for an appeal of the New York case and the extradition of Weinstein to Los Angeles to face multiple sex crimes charges out West – charges that were made public by re-election seeking L.A. County D.A. Jackie Lacey on January 6, the opening day of Weinstein’s NYC trial.
First arrested New York in late May 2018, Weinstein initially faced two counts of predatory sexual assault, one count of criminal sexual act in the first degree and one count each of first-degree rape and third-degree rape in New York. Subject to travel restrictions reinforced last August 7, he had been out on a $5 million bail after entering a not guilty plea on July 9, 2018. Weinstein entered a plea of not guilty again on August 26 last year when a new indictment was added.
Accused by Ashley Judd in a now temporarily halted case, failing to get a sex-trafficking class action tossed out, and the subject of a more recent lawsuit from a woman who says he abused her when she was 16 in 2002, Weinstein is also facing allegations from close to 100 other women who say he sexually assaulted or sexually harassed them. Over the past few months, several of those individuals are refusing to participate in a potential $25 million over-arching settlement that is part of an overall $45 million deal on the table.
Using terms like “insulting” to describe the proposed settlement,on March 9, several Weinstein accusers publicly called on New York Attorney General Letitia James to reject that proposed multimillion-dollar settlement with Weinstein and his former company – a deal that would see millions more for lawyers and former members of the Weinstein Company board with no admission of guilt on the part of Weinstein himself.

The Walking Dead's Daniel actor Daniel Newman has been hospitalized and is suspected to have been infected with the rampant COVID-19 coronavirus. Newman had traveled internationally and people from his group of friends had returned home and tested positive for the virus. Newman has not been able to get tested for the virus but is being treated as his symptoms are consistent with those of people who have the virus. I spent all day calling every urgent care and hospital no one had tests!"
Ultimately, he was forced to pursue another location. "Finally I found one emergency room that told me my symptoms match and to come in immediately. I did all the tests and they told me because I have 'mild symptoms'' the government won’t allow them to process my tests! They don’t have enough they’re not prepared, even though all my symptoms match. They’re only allowed to process 'severe symptoms, elderly, or people recently in Italy and China'. It cost me $9,116!! and they didn’t even give me results. They sent me home and tons of other ill people that could potentially infect their communities, just telling us to 'self Quarantine'. "
Newman went on to write about his frustrations and the importance of taking extra self-care at this time.
Newman portrayed Daniel on The Walking Dead in its seventh and eighth seasons. He was killed off in an episode which saw his character joining the ranks of other Kingdom soldiers getting gunned down as they protected Khary Payton's King Ezekiel. He is not slated to return to the series.

Celebrity chef Floyd Cardoz has died because of the coronavirus ... this after checking into a hospital and succumbing to an infection, according to his family.
The "Top Chef Masters" star's death was confirmed to Indian media outlet, Scroll.in, with members of his family saying Floyd died Wednesday at a facility in New Jersey -- where he'd been getting treated upon returning from an international trip to Mumbai earlier this month.

NJ Transit railroad boss, praised by workers and riders, dies from coronavirus
The man who came from the Long Island Rail Road to help fix NJ Transit’s rail system has died from coronavirus complications, officials said Saturday.
Veteran railroader Raymond P. Kenny, 69, became NJ Transit’s senior vice president and general manager of rail operations in January 2019, after a 50-year career on the Long Island Rail Road, where he rose through the ranks from ticket clerk to acting vice president.
Equally respected by management, labor and transit advocates, Kenny will be will be “deeply missed,” NJ Transit officials said.
"Ray's reputation and experience in the industry are unparalleled," said Kevin Corbett, NJ Transit President & CEO. "The leadership and incredible wealth of railroad knowledge Ray brought with him has truly made a positive impact on our organization. On behalf of everyone at NJ Transit, our thoughts and prayers are with Ray's family and friends at this difficult time."
Kenny was hired as the transportation agency coped with a shortage of engineers, aging equipment and an epidemic of canceled trains. During his tenure, NJ Transit embarked on a hiring and training blitz to give the agency what Gov. Phil Murphy called “a deep bench” of engineers to whittle down the number of canceled trains.
Jerome Johnson, General chairman of UTU local 60, said he looked at Kenny as a big brother.
“He brought honestly and integrity to NJ Transit. He was exemplary for his supervision and, to our members, he made you feel like he cared,” Johnson said. "He understands what the railroad does, he understands both sides (management and labor). He is a person who wanted everything to work.”
Kenny was someone that Johnson said he could talk to and reach a compromise with.
“He knew what it takes because he’s done it,” Johnson said. “He had 110% of my trust."

MasterChef Restaurateur and Husband Killed in New Jersey Murder Suicide
They had opened their new restaurant just weeks before COVID-19 shut it down.
The husband and wife owners of a New Jersey restaurant have been killed in an apparent murder suicide.
Garima Kothari, a former finalist on MasterChef India, and her husband Manmohan Mall were both found dead on Sunday morning.
According to Hudson County Prosecutors, Kothari's body was discovered at the couple's luxury high-rise apartment at around 7:15 a.m., having suffered trauma to her upper body.
The body of her 37-year-old husband was pulled from the Hudson River about a half hour later, after police responded to reports of a possible suicide attempt.
Kothari, a native of Calcutta who trained at the renowned French culinary school Le Cordon Bleu, had only opened her waterfront "Indian soul food" restaurant Nukkad in February; by March 30 it was forced to shut down amid the Coronavirus outbreak.
But on April 16 she reopened for delivery and take away, announcing just days before she died that she would also be donating meals to Jersey City Medical Center, asking followers to donate.
"I would so appreciate the support of the community at this point of time!" she wrote on Facebook six days before her death, according to News India Times.
"Existence in silo is not possible, hence I feel compelled to stay open & support my skeletal staff & be able to pay some fixed expenses (now that small biz fed loans have been lapped up by the Ruths & Shake shacks!!)"
"The Prosecutor's Office Homicide Unit is actively investigating this case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department," Hudson County Prosecutor's office said. "While it appears at this time that these deaths are the result of a murder-suicide, the final determination is still pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner's Office."
Kothari was formerly an investment banker in India before switching careers to become a chef, placing in the top 15 in MasterChef India in 2010.
After graduating from Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, she eventually moved to New York and became and event manager, curating events for celebrities such as the Clinton family, Melinda Gates, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cher and Deepak Chopra.
Mall was a graduate of India Institute of Technology, who came to the US to pursue his masters degree in financial engineering at Columbia University.
