Interesting. I just spoke with family members in Italy, and they didn't mention anything like what you said. Nothing even remotely close to what you said. I spoke with them 2 days ago.

I'm in the red zone mate : search Codogno, Lodi, Vo Euganeo.
LMAO. My family is Piacenza, about 20 minutes from Lodi.
They said it's pretty much business as usual. They try not to go out much, but other than that, they said not much has changed.
So, who's gimmick are you? :D
Piacenza was not red zone and it's spreading so fast it's unbeliaveble.
Anyway not problem mate, I just wanted to be of any help and I'm not a gimmick.
My God this board really changed a lot...
Sounds like you were not expecting somebody with family in Italy to be posting here.
Do you care to re-phrase your bullshit initial statement?
OP post pictures of an upside down cup near carnage.
OP post pictures of an upside down cup near carnage.
Small towns usually have loads of old people . OPs post could easily be true, even the part about shelves being empty.
I went to buy some stuff today and shops in more affluent areas were sold out on stuff I wanted. Went to the shitty part of the borough where people don't have the money to buy in bulk and everything was all still available. People were probably "panic" buying like OP which resulted in empty shelves
Yeah my wife hit target, roche bro’s and Shaw’s and no toilet paper,no water,no meat.Luckily I bought 40 cases of water a couple weeks ago.Only a few rolls of tp left though.Guess I’ll have to go wipe on the lawn.
I live in a fairly small town (25.000 people) but still at the moment we do not know where to put the bodies of dead people.
The church near the town hospital today was completely full with casks waiting to be sent to the cemetery.
Praying for you and all of Italy. Be safe.

Dumb fuck, you just said, "I'm in the red zone mate : search Codogno, Lodi, Vo Euganeo."
My family lives in Piacenza. It is literally a 10 minute drive to Codogno and 20 minutes to Lodi.
Also, I have never heard Italians use the word mate.
Again, who's gimmick are you? :D
I'm no gimmick, ask Tim Wescott, ask Coach, ask Dropping Plates (if he came back), ask Johnny Falcon.
We're living a terrible situation and I just wanted to warn and maybe be helpful to the good people here.

It's been few months since I post mainly because I changed job and I've been very busy.
This evening I feel it's EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to share this with all my good friends here since early 2000.
Please do note this is NOT a troll post: many of you maybe remember me and the fact that I always been very straightforward and sincere.
Do not underestimate this situation in the USA: you live in a great Country with economic power and above all people able to overcome any adversity.
But here in Italy the situation is far worse to what you can read in the news.
I live in a fairly small town (25.000 people) but still at the moment we do not know where to put the bodies of dead people.
It's this bad, really.
The church near the town hospital today was completely full with casks waiting to be sent to the cemetery.
Commercial activities are 90% closed: two weeks ago I had the idea to buy large quantities of food (approx for 60 days for me and my wife).
Supermarkets are empty, no food there for the moment.
We're locked in my house waiting for the situation to hopefully get better but I'm not that optimistic.
So my friends this is not ment to scare you BUT TO WARN YOU: do not underestimate this situation. Be safe, avoid if possible contact with people and start putting away food for you and your loved ones.
Stay strong my friends, a big hug from Italy.

On Friday afternoon, Donald Trump gave the worst speech of his political career.
He appeared at the podium in the Rose Garden half an hour late. He looked and sounded exhausted. He stumbled over the word "coronavirus" in his very first sentence and seemed to struggle at a number of points throughout his address. His wonted improvisations and other departures from the script did not suggest his usual ease. He sounded very much like what one suspects he is: a tired and confused senior citizen.
The problems with Trump's speech were not limited to the manner in which it was delivered. Among other things, he ought to have secured a deal with Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats before speaking. His emphasis on the extraordinary achievements of such noted public servants as the CEO of Walmart (whose stock price is surging as I write this) did not exactly inspire confidence that the most important thing in this ordeal is public health and safety, as opposed to corporate profits. The bizarre round-table approach that brought everyone from public health officials to business leaders to the vice president (who said some genuinely touching things about the elderly) before the podium was confusing. It was nice of the president to remind us that "so many of the great sports we've gotten used to" have been put on hold. I was surprised that he did not once mention the 41 Americans who have already died of the virus until well into the question-and-answer portion of the proceedings, when he misstated the number.
It is too early to say whether the various new measures Trump announced will be effective. (Some of the obviously sensible ones — waiving interest on federal student loan debt, for example — are likely to be lost in the confusion.) I, for one, think it is still likely that much of the media response to the virus has been hysterical, and that in two months schoolchildren across the country will longingly remember the time they got three extra weeks of spring break. But that is not relevant to my assessment of Trump's performance on Friday. On arguably the biggest stage of his presidency, he not only failed to give the impression that he was in control of the situation, he looked about as ready to handle a crisis as Joe Biden is to speak calmly to elderly voters in Iowa or quote the Declaration of Independence.
Agreeing to take questions following his prepared remarks was almost certainly a mistake. In the coming days and weeks and months, Trump will have virtually unlimited opportunities to attack the legacy of the Obama administration. This was not the occasion for it. In so many other contexts, Trump's disdain for the press is defensible and even amusing. Friday it made him seem petty. And it is never a good idea for a president in the face of a crisis to tell the country that he takes "no responsibility" for anything (in this case, delays in virus testing). Taking responsibility is what the office is all about.
These impressions will not go away. They will certainly outlast the pandemic. No American will remember the day that President Trump addressed the nation on the subject of the coronavirus pandemic the way they remember Ronald Reagan's response to the Challenger disaster. If we have any lasting impressions they will be of an enervated, verbally infelicitous elderly man attempting to speak to realities that he is only half aware of ("unlike websites of the past"). The best thing he can hope for is that many of us will feel that Trump perfectly captured the national mood of alternating feverish speculation and exhaustion.
it's just a flu type bug ffs. depending on how your immune system is currently, you'll either get hit hard (like you do every couple of years anyway) or get very light symptoms.
the people in danger are those who would struggle with a strong flu bug.

There's more than one flu virus going around. Unless you get tested, you won't know if it is the coronavirus or a different one with other symptoms.

The chickadee at woolies advised me to line up outside before opening and then rush through the doors and down the aisle along with everyone else. They have decided to let a physical contest determine who gets toilet paper. What could possibly go wrong?
Luckily, they preempted any problems by taping up AGGRESSION WILL NOT BE TOLERATED signs around the shop.
I haven't yet attended the event to elbow grannies and fat housewives in the snouts. Not saying I won't. Who knows it might be a blast.
Today a woman gets behind me in line at the store is carrying 3 - 8 packs of toilet paper and says to me I'm buying this for my daughter. Am I supposed to care?
Your gaydar is stuck on. She was hitting on you. ;D

This toilet paper thing is fucking retarded.....
I'll wipe my ass on the newspaper, who gives a shit.
How do these fucktards buying toilet paper think we survived 2million years prior to its invention. Our society truely is moronic.
Hmm. Hadn't thought of that. What an odd come on. I did have a woman at the post office squeeze my bicep and comment on how muscular my arms were. That seemed more like a come on...although it also seemed weird since my arms are not that big.

My post was not an attention whore one (me and my family have far greater concerns than a message board).
The idea was to be of any help in understanding how this can evolve if underestimated. That's all.
I post here once every few months so I don't need to become a "getbig influencer".
To the guy with family in Lodi I really wish them and to him all the best, really, no animosity from my part.
Check the online maps and see how fast is moving south, but I'm sure they already know.
The piling up of dead people is the norm now: of course they are sent to the graveyard but considering the big numbers it takes time, luckily Italy it's not Iran where they are disposed in fields outside the city.
To the question if I know someone who died of covid19 the answer it's sadly yes: I lost two close relatives (aged 64 and 70) so yes it affects more elderly people.
But I also lost three good friends (they were younger: 48, 57 and 65).
In roughly 10 to 15 days they were gone.
Dear Royalty: be safe and take care, you didn't have the opportunity to meet Carlo, Francesca and Pietro, but they were full of life and loving, decent people.
I bet if they could speak to you, they would say not underestimate the situation and avoid close contact with people.
This is from the beginning the goal of this post.
Total respect for you, sir.
This virus is very dangerous and they have no idea as to if it will become resistant to drugs or mutate as a defense to medicine.

Lets do some basic math. As reported yesterday, the death toll in Italy was 1266. Lets assume yesterday was a terrible day, and that number doubles, bringing the total to 2532 total deaths. The population of Italy is around 60.5 million, not including all the illegals.
So, 2532 deaths out of a population of 60,500,500. That means, 1 out of 25,000 have died in Italy.
And you're telling us that you personally know 5 people who have died from Covid-19?
Seems legit. ::)

Use your brain, do you really think every town has testing kits or the manpower to test?Italy is overloaded, if it's a choice between using your resources to test or use your resources to try and save the lives of the dying, then it's all going to go on the dying. If elderly people are presenting themselves to you in mass numbers, all with the same symptoms, and all in very severe condition, why bother testing when you know what most of the cases are.At that point you put them on ICU if their own lungs can't help them, if there are even any ICU left,or put them on oxygen to help them breathe, provide IV if too dehydrated, medicines to lower fever.Apart from that there isn't really anything they can do.Even hospital psychiatrists etc in the hardest hit parts are getting their hands dirty. When places are getting hit as hard as northern Italy is now, you can throw the official numbers out of the window.

You're quickly becoming an annoying kunt. Take a valium and get some sleep.
Are you asking a question, making a statement, or just blathering? ???
Seriously, your post makes not sense, just a bunch of rambling.
I don't understand your animosity, Twaddle.
What would be the reason to lie? I still don't get it.
I guess it's more your problem than mine.
Anyway, I did what my conscience told me: warn people who are not prepared.
If at least one of you understand the real situation (remember a small town not NY) I'll be glad.
I guess the thread can be closed, I don't need to be "popular " or pity, maybe I was hoping for a little more respect for those who have lost part of their family, but if life already didn't teach you this I can't hope to change things.
There's nothing more to add.
Try and address the facts rather than deflecting because you know you are wrong. The virus is hitting in clusters and parts of Northern Italy are getting decimated, the true numbers are not represented in the statistics as they simply do not have the testing equipment or manpower to test. This idea that just because one part of Italy isnt bad then no part of Italy is bad, is akin to a baby thinking his mother doesn't exist anymore when she walks out the room and he cannot see her.Slamming an Italian guy, who is telling you he is losing family and friends, because it doesn't fit in to your narrow and incorrect worldview, is a new low for getbig.

I am using facts. You must have missed the part, where I stated that I have family that lives in Piacenza (Northern Italy). I spoke with them 3 days ago. They mentioned nothing of dead bodies piling up, crisis, etc.
I think your family is lying to you
They said it's pretty much business as usual.

This toilet paper thing is fucking retarded.....
I'll wipe my ass on the newspaper, who gives a shit.
How do these fucktards buying toilet paper think we survived 2million years prior to its invention. Our society truely is moronic.

Use your brain, do you really think every town has testing kits or the manpower to test? The virus hits in clusters before it mass spreads.Italy is overloaded in parts of the North, if it's a choice between using your resources to test or use your resources to try and save the lives of the dying, then it's all going to go on the dying.

How come no one in the U.S. prison system has coronavirus?
Aren’t the prisoners tested, or are they tested but the results aren’t reported?
Lets do some basic math. As reported yesterday, the death toll in Italy was 1266. Lets assume yesterday was a terrible day, and that number doubles, bringing the total to 2532 total deaths. The population of Italy is around 60.5 million, not including all the illegals.
So, 2532 deaths out of a population of 60,500,000. That means, 1 out of 25,000 have died in Italy.
And you're telling us that you personally know 5 people who have died from Covid-19?
Seems legit. ::)
Let Primemucus visit all the prisons and all of them will be afflicted w Corona (among other things)
You're assuming that the number of deaths are evenly spread among age groups and locations.
Isn't Italian Lifter in his 50's - 60's?
Mortality rate for older people is estimated to be higher than 10% according to some articles. And he claims to live in a red zone, so I don't find hard to belive his claim about knowing people who've died from coronavirus.
A back-of-the-envelope calculation tells me that if you know 1000 people, from which 5% is infected, and the mortality rate is 10%, you expect 5 of them to die.
How come no one in the U.S. prison system has coronavirus?

Yeah, they've been and are locked up.
You need someone afflicted to enter those prisons and things will get rolling.
Sorry, but your back of the envelope calculations suck. There is not a 5% infection rate, and there is not a 10% mortality rate.

By the way, you think it's safe to train at Golds Venice right now? Gyms are the worst especially with all the international bodybuilders from various shows overseas. I am going to do some pull ups and chin ups at the beach next workout, which is probably a good variation to training anyway.

The ooverall fatality rate is 0.92% , but it's 9.51% for 80 and above and 5.33% for age 70-79.
Doing a bit of calculation 53/788 x 100% or 6.72% is the fatality rate for everyone aged 70+ for the disease.
It's 1.38% for the 60-69 age group and 0.38% for the 50-59 age group.
It's not really been a threat, for children and adults below the age of 50, so far.
Doesn't everybody still live with their parents and grandparents in Italy, no wonder it spreads
Cant really judge, south korea is doing something no other country can really do, test everyone and monitor most of them before symptoms even start, they also have the best healthcare in the world.
It's mainly small villages, most are old and so the rate is higher

Would that be like eating your pet?
"Intelligence can be defined as the ability to learn and apply knowledge; to understand new or challenging situations and the ability to think abstractly. Dolphins demonstrate the ability to do all of these things and most scientists agree that dolphins are very intelligent. They are notoriously talented mimics and quick learners; they demonstrate self-awareness, problem-solving, and empathy, innovation, teaching skills, grief, joy and playfulness."

I heard from a friend in Italy yesterday, he says shit is serious out there, a lot of the doctors, nurses, emts, are dying from the virus catching it from working around and caring for people with Covid19. These are not old people dying some as young as 40 years old.

Italy has a large elderly population so it was bound to leave a large death count there. I was also speaking to an Iranian friend who said that the younger people in his homeland who get infected recover within a week or two. As summer approaches, hopefully it's impact will decline as it seems to thrive on moderate temperatures of around 10-14 degrees.

99% of Those Who Died From Virus Had Other Illness, Italy Says

Italians Rally in Coronavirus Lockdown
We’re tracking the latest on the coronavirus outbreak and the global response. Sign up here for our daily newsletter on what you need to know.
More than 99% of Italy’s coronavirus fatalities were people who suffered from previous medical conditions, according to a study by the country’s national health authority.
After deaths from the virus reached more than 2,500, with a 150% increase in the past week, health authorities have been combing through data to provide clues to help combat the spread of the disease.
Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte’s government is evaluating whether to extend a nationwide lockdown beyond the beginning of April, daily La Stampa reported Wednesday. Italy has more than 31,500 confirmed cases of the illness.
Italy Coronavirus Deaths
By prior illnesses (%)
Source: ISS Italy National Health Institute, March 17 sample
The new study could provide insight into why Italy’s death rate, at about 8% of total infected people, is higher than in other countries.
The Rome-based institute has examined medical records of about 18% of the country’s coronavirus fatalities, finding that just three victims, or 0.8% of the total, had no previous pathology. Almost half of the victims suffered from at least three prior illnesses and about a fourth had either one or two previous conditions.
More than 75% had high blood pressure, about 35% had diabetes and a third suffered from heart disease.
Threat to the Elderly
The median age of the infected is 63 but most of those who die are older
Source: ISS Italy National Health institute, March 17 sample
The average age of those who’ve died from the virus in Italy is 79.5. As of March 17, 17 people under 50 had died from the disease. All of Italy’s victims under 40 have been males with serious existing medical conditions.
While data released Tuesday point to a slowdown in the increase of cases, with a 12.6% rise, a separate study shows Italy could be underestimating the real number of cases by testing only patients presenting symptoms.
According to the GIMBE Foundation, about 100,000 Italians have contracted the virus, daily Il Sole 24 Ore reported. That would bring back the country’s death rate closer to the global average of about 2%.

If you're young and healthy You can get the virus and pretty much recover ...
Sadly is a brand new virus so we don't know if those who survive it won't have scars/future damage in kidneys and lungs
(Of course Bodybuilders wouldnt give a flying fack to kidneys and lungs)

I haven't really read much about this, but when the death rate is published, is it corrected for the age profile of that country?
By this I mean - are there just a lot more older people in Italy than in other countries? (Due to the great diet and olive oil, no doubt)
It just seems reasonable to expect that a country with an older population will get hit harder...

640,000 Italians die each year on average.
If they can't find graveyard space for 3000 coronavirus victims so far...
...how will they find space for the 640,000...
Think it works like this:
Something happening every year, you get an average, so you can plan for it.
But when something is happening in a very short period of time, that you didn't expect, and didn't plan for, then it becomes problematic.
Something like that.

China nipped it in the bud with drastic quarantine measures and are now virtually over it
Europe and the USA seem to want to drag it out for months with half assed "advice" as opposed to instructions and sanctions.

Do governments and people plan for pandemics? Most of us are too busy trying to get through each day to think about such catastrophic situations.

Are these numbers with or without the hugging of chinks?
Don't underestimate this emergency.
chloroquine and azithromycin will kill the virus and treat the associated onsetting pneumonia after about 6 days in most cases. If your government won't approve their use or have been caught short with supply, your population is paying a very high price, in saying that it won't save the very old who were practically dead anyway, sorry, but anyone with a few years in them in most cases will respond and recover. A vaccine is a much better course of action as its prevention, but there is now a treatment, that seems to be working but global supply is low due to huge global demand and a lot of countries simply won't approve medicine for use until they have trailed and approved it, ridiculous but blame the lawyers and liability. Cant have people escaping certain death then living two more years and getting related liver damage, welcome to 2020 government incompetence will always kill more people than anything.
It would be interesting to know what % of Northern Italy's dead were ethnic Italians.
