Since Getbiggers are from all over the world we have a unique opportunity to get first hand information from a number of different countries.
How is it where you are?
Are you in a lock down? Can you still walk the streets freely? Are the gyms closed? Do people make an effort to keep distance from eachothers? Are there any shortage in foods or medicine? Do you know anyone who been sick? Have you been sick yourself?

How is it where you are? You can genuinely feel the tension in the air when you're around a bunch of strangers
Are you in a lock down? Yes
Can you still walk the streets freely? Once a day
Are the gyms closed? Yes, even outdoor chin/dips bars are off limits
Do people make an effort to keep distance from eachothers? Poor effort at best
Are there any shortage in foods or medicine? At times when idiots were hoarding. It's okay right now.
Do you know anyone who been sick? Yes, plenty
Have you been sick yourself? 90% sure I've had it
I know several key workers, people working in hospitals and the emergency services. Saying it's a mess out there would be an understatement and it's gonna get worse.
The most recent story was of a diabetic male nurse in his 50s who caught the virus working at a hospital and was quarantined at home. He was hit hard, his wife called the emergency services, they came and checked his condition, but because of his age and comorbidity they just left him at home to die.
People won't be the same after this. Expect a lot of PTSD

South Africa.
Three week lockdown. If you're out on the street and not buying food or getting essential or emergency services you will be arrested. Have to keep receipt. Not even allowed to walk outside property. No alcohol can be sold and no take-away food.
Economy already heavily damaged and might not ever recover, many businesses won't be able to re-open and others will have to shut down as the economy was already bad before this.
Already spread to a squatter camp, so at least any potential zombie apocalypse will be contained in those areas by the military who are already there enforcing the lockdown. They can't really follow the rules in a squatter camp, but they can't leave either.

Stockholm/Sweden (The Capital)
I only go out (wearing my Anti-Corona Armor consisting of Goggles, Mask, Plastic Gloves, Coat etc covering my whole body) when shopping these days.
I try to purchase as much as i can so i don't have to go shopping so much.
In this area of town, we have plenty o people not caring for the elderly or any risk-groups, coughing and sneezing everywhere, mostly in their general direction. And definitely not thinking of Social distancing.
Myself i try to keep at least 1-2 metres (4-6 feet) between me and anyone else.
I have been bugging the stores ,clerks and cashiers for weeks (i started using mask and gloves already back in February) to start using masks and gloves (many don't even use gloves),
but this week they eventually caved in and started using masks and gloves.
All the stores and pharmacies in this area have also started with putting sheets of plastic in front of the cashier (started this Monday) in an attempt to protect from coughing and sneezing.
No Lockdown is Enforced. NOTHING is enforced, so we have people stacked like sardines on buses and on cafés.

London/England
Working from home and all gyms are shut. I only go out to shop for food and there are usually 10-20 minute queues outside as they are only allowing a limited amount of people in at a time.
A woman who I work with came down with Covid-19 after returning from holiday in Hungary. She's recovered now but told me her husband has now got it.
We've been told that the situation could continue for 3-6 months. :(

Not much in victims I could witness with my own eyes.
The hospitals are playing their secrecy game and not taking in any "unnecessary" cases which will cause a lot of older people lots of pain.
Mother(83) has been in contact with medical staff(high viral load) and younger folks for weeks now and shows no symptoms of the disease. Time will tell, but if she exhibits no symptoms in the weeks to come then I'm pretty reluctant to the idea of this whole pandemic.
Time will tell - maybe a lot of people will die... who knows.

Just as many elderly show no symptoms as the rest of the population, if not more so! It's just the ones that do get symptoms, get it bad.

The local hospital said that they have 2 full on cases.
I'm curious how this will develop.

In South Africa they have lines on the ground indicating where everyone must stand.
Also signs everywhere explaining procedures.
Entering the store there is someone to spray customers hands and when exiting, and there are people constantly disinfecting trolleys and baskets. This is compulsory.
People are limited to certain numbers to enter stores, so when people were panic buying, staff would be able to replace stock on shelves and extra shelves for popular food items such as tinned food.
At petrol stations, the attendants are wearing face visors or masks and hand a tray for cash or credit card payments.
The government might be a mess but the private sector is extremely well organised.

At this point, do we know why some people get symptoms and some don’t?
And how do we know that the people who do get symptoms wouldn’t have had those symptoms anyway even without the virus?

Located Netherlands
Experience: good time to make money at the stock exchange
Very good deals when buying a (second hand) car (car sales have collapsed)
Real estate market deteriorating
No total lockdown yet, but bankruptcys, tourisms gone (and tourists forced to leave), and very drastic change in rules / regulations / border with Belgium closed, German border gets difficult
Hospitals in my region have postponed everything non essential
In other harder hit regions patients have to be moved to different hospitals: lack of intensive care beds / too many patients
In general people now seem to be paying attention to social distancing etc. Having more than 100 people die every day helps getting the message accross
If the USA has > 1,000 deaths per day, public opinion will take the chinese virus more seriously
But by then it's already too late I think
(In supermarkets some products are still being hoarded. I think it's a logical and smart human behaviour thing. Stocking up on supplies is always a good thing to do imo)
No food or medication shortages
-
New York Monroe Woodbury area working from home thank God I almost have a full gym downstairs built it for my boys now i use it as well most of the regular stores are open food stores everything else closed I live on a cul-de-sac so people come out we b******* together not so bad

Northern California USA.
Nine out of ten people are cowards.
Fuck off.
-
Southern California, Suburban area, parks are packed. Grocery stores are a little empty but no lines or anything to get it. Most restaurants are doing take out, and most other business are closed.
I have one acquaintance who’s wife is positive, she’s a nurse though.
-
South Carolina. Business nearly as usual. The governor ordered non-essential businesses closed but if they are non essential who cares, lol. So my hair gets a little longer.
I stopped eating at restaurants regularly about a year ago because I was tired of paying so much for so little. Just after the national media created the panic a few weeks ago my local grocery store was wiped out- and now its running at 90% so pretty much normal. Costco still has big lines because that's where the doomsday morons shop. Publix, Trader Joes, etc are running normal.
I run a tech firm and all the delivery services have actually sped up deliveries. I saw gas yesterday at $1.49 a gallon so this Wuflu has some nice side effects, haha.
As far as my customers go, who are world wide, it hasn't changed - EXCEPT for China. Not a peep out of them. It's pretty damn obvious- there are a whole lot more sick Chinese than they are letting on. I got word back from one huge customer though - they are still locked down. Not that I care anymore. I have made a business decision to eliminate PRC as a supplier and any customers are now 100% up front payment. The Chinese internal economy is becoming wrecked because of this.
By the way - a close relative works at one of the main hospitals in the city. People are still dying- like they always do. No forklifts in the parking lot though moving bodies.
-

And how do we know that the people who do get symptoms wouldn’t have had those symptoms anyway even without the virus?
No. We don't know why some get symptoms and some don't. Mild early Symptoms are also so wide ranging they could very easily get overlooked. eg 10% of people get mild diarrhoea for a couple of days and no other symptoms, or just have a loss of smell/taste, or a bad headache and are back to normal.
Most severe cases start off with these mild symptoms.

So... sounds like the regular, albeit occasionally deadly, flu. I got a flu that lasted about a week in college some years back. Bedridden, violent vomiting, delirium , you name it. A cough that felt like a knife twisting in me. The college stopped classes for a week and we stayed in our dorms. Then it passed and back to work we went.
Too bad we didn't have the internet then. We could have collapsed the global economy!

Yes, but it is far more infectious than flu.

You seem very knowledgeable about China. Just wondering what you think about the future of the Chinese economy.
-
Yes, but it is far more infectious than flu.
Actually that hasn't been determined yet. It doesn't form an aerosol like measles (the most infectious disease measured to date) and only transfers attached to droplets expelled by coughing or sneezing or via fecal matter. Lots of published papers pointing that out. It "lives" so to speak (no virus is actually alive - https://www.livescience.com/58018-are-viruses-alive.html) for up to a few days on surfaces but the jury is still out on that. Contrast to bacterium which can live for months on surfaces.
This isn't the most deadly or the most infectious flu out there - not by a long shot. The mutated Spanish Flu virus of 1919 killed in 24 hours. Lots of bodies were buried in the abandoned Erie Canal near where I used to live in Upstate NY because the death rate was so high they couldn't dig holes fast enough.

Even if the infectious rate was low the virus is able to spread before infected people start to show symptoms.
The lowest estimate has an infectious rate higher than seasonal flu. Once the number asymptomatic cases are established the infectious rate will only get higher. You would have to be in serious denial to think this wasn't more infectious than seasonal flu.
Also despite the similar symptoms this isn't a flu.

You seem very knowledgeable about China. Just wondering what you think about the future of the Chinese economy.
I've done business directly with Chinese entities since 2000 and have visited their factories and government facilities quite a number of times so I have developed a perspective that has served me well. A couple of things you should know about their economy:
1) The typical small business (less than about 500 employees) is leveraged up the wahoo. Government loans at 0-1% interest are the primary funding for "desired" industries. In return for this free money the government in essence owns you and definitely micromanages you.
2) Most Chinese businesses operate on a very low corporate profit margin- in fact less than 5%. The primary business goal is to employ people.
They never factor in money for R&D, new product development, etc. That is why Chinese companies rip off patents and copy everything in sight. They also don't have a cash reserve that is very big. A downturn in the economy and poof they are gone quickly.
3) The Chinese philosophy for gaining control of an industry is to undercut everybody else. But this only works if Beijing gives the company cash to sell at less than market rate, and often at less than cost to manufacture. Once the Chinese take over an industry, quality suffers and ultimately the industry collapses down to nearly nothing because no one invests in anything new and the price keeps getting lowered till there is no profit left. So paying back the government gets very difficult.
The average Chinese company has a lot of debt, a lot of global industries have advanced faster than the Chinese can keep up, and the Chinese government has spent huge sums on other things like military expansion that has sucked the well dry. This virus is about the worst thing that could have happened. I have read conspiracy theories that the Chinese did this on purpose to kill the US economy. Well if so, it's a murder suicide .
My guess, and it's just a guess, is China is going to have a very bad short term future. Trump has hurt them badly with the tariffs (and I am in total agreement because China has tacked on a 27% tariff on my goods since day 1). Add to that the virus has the world now taking a second look at the real cost of doing business with China and you have a recipe for disaster.
As a tech business i have decided to no longer source anything from China and to require 100% payment upfront for anything i sell to them. I have talked to a number of other business owners in the US and was surprised to hear them saying the same thing. So something is up and i will be interested to see how it plays out.

A lot of the terms used here - flu vs coronavirus, are used interchangeably but you are correct- they are different. Symptoms however are nearly identical.
I find it odd that you comment that a person is in serious denial when no one has any idea of the number of people infected since testing has only recently begun. Sorry but your opinion is no more valid than mine. Until we actually know the total number of people infected and the total number who have died directly from the virus we won't know squat. Unlike global warming, epidemiology isn't a religion.

I go through a police checkpoint twice a day in Western Australia going to and from work. They want you to roll down your window and have a close conversation every time. None of them have masks on. They're idiots. Imperious idiots with guns. Can't wait to see what happens when they insist I take off my mask and I refuse.

Business closed with exception of supermarkets, gas stations and drugstores. Restaurants/fast food joints operating only with delivery food.
People still free to walk around.

Besides alcohol sales being forbidden, so are cigarettes. So at the moment it is illegal to buy alcohol or cigarettes.

In my part of the world, unfortunately the president is a 70+ year old man child with the intelligence and temperament of a 6 year old.
Just yesterday he bragged about being #1 on facebook during a briefing that was supposed to be on the coronavirus.
He was insidiously placed in this position by the Kremlin with a little help from disenfranchised white voters that felt they were losing their white privilege.
Little did they know they were just part of Putin's plan.

They pulled me over yesterday hassling me out cause I was just driving around, I put my window down 1cm.
If they hassle you out ask for their details and tell them you are going to make a complaint for harassment, bad behaviour etc, watch them change their tune. Complains made against them give them a lot of trouble.

Since Getbiggers are from all over the world we have a unique opportunity to get first hand information from a number of different countries.
I am in Finland..
How is it where you are?
Quite good, in fact. Only 1500 has covid 19, so far only 19 deaths, and statistics are going downwards by the lockdowns..
Are you in a lock down?
Yes, voluntarily, because it seen to me smart in this situation..
Can you still walk the streets freely?
Yes, inside the county, I can walk, I can drive etc. but not over the county line.
Are the gyms closed?
Most of them are still open, just few is closed, but who is stupid enough to go there? Pause of few weeks is far more easy to catch up, than two weeks in hospital bed/ICU
Do people make an effort to keep distance from eachothers?
Some are, some not, because intelligence is not evenly distributed even among Finns. Those who have a brains keeps the distance each others, who have not, doesn't.
Are there any shortage in foods or medicine?
Not really, there would be some items which may take time to get, but shortage? No.
Do you know anyone who been sick?
Nope. Social distancing is working..
Have you been sick yourself?
No
There is some things which works for our benefit in time like this, for example, in scandinavia we take our shoes off when we get inside our apartments, so we doesn't smear all that street crap in our homes. We are masters of social distancing by nature, just about 98% of finns would like live alone in the woods. We also have quite efficient universal health care, and our employers are obliged to arrange work health services to employees, so if we have some basic disease, diabetes, blood pressure etc. it is in good care, because you get most of the medicines, health checks, treatments etc. for free. But that is pure communism as you know, even if it help save our lives at the moment.. ;D

Since Getbiggers are from all over the world we have a unique opportunity to get first hand information from a number of different countries.
How is it where you are?
I'm in southern Germany near the Black Forest. It was already a pretty quiet life - just gone a little quieter.
Are you in a lock down?
Yes. Essential businesses still running but they're quite strict on what that means. Supermarkets, pharmacies, hardware stores, some factories....no food places are open, schools have been closed, no retail to speak of other than supermarkets. Only two people allowed out together unless you're from the same household. Fines and possible imprisonment for people caught ignoring this.
Can you still walk the streets freely?
Yes - no problem as long as it's only with one other person and maintaining a 2m distance.
Are the gyms closed?
Yes
Do people make an effort to keep distance from eachothers?
Yes - Germans are good soldiers and generally do what they're told to do. I've seen a few kids in the skatebowl who weren't limiting their numbers but otherwise, most people are doing what's expected of them.
Are there any shortage in foods or medicine?
Yes. No toilet paper, things like flour and yeast are hard to find. Don't know about medicines.
Do you know anyone who been sick?
Yes
Have you been sick yourself?
Both my wife and I think we have/had the virus. We were in a hotspot in France at the start of the breakout. My wife is also a school teacher and her school is also a designated hotspot with many infections. She was sent home with all the symptoms but when she tried to call the health authorities and report herself, they didn't want to know. She said she's been in Strasbourg (the epicentre in France) two weeks before. They asked exactly when - turned it out was 15 days before she got sick. They told her it was nothing to worry about - they're only interested in people who were in hotspots in the 14 days before she called, so she couldn't have caught anything (how German is that?).
I developed a cough which has since gone but I've been struggling to breathe for the last two weeks. It got so bad on Monday my wife called the our GP who called the health department who called us - spoke to my wife (I wasn't capable) and said if it's just breathing problems it's probably nothing to worry about, I don't need a test. Makes you wonder how accurate the statistics are if they're refusing to test people who only have some of the symptoms.
(just to finish the story, we called the GP back and the local hospital. Both said if I wasn't dying hospital is not the place to be - told my wife that if she notices my lips and/or fingers turning blue she should call again).
I'm still here - still holding onto things so I can suck in air. Hopefully this goes away soon.
There are things I like about living in Germany but the bureaucracy isn't one of them.

Here in Portugal, population 10 million, has 246 deaths and 9900 confirmed cases, 68 recovered.
Most people remain inside their homes, but there is still alot of travel. Yesterday very strict laws passed to enforce confinement.
Gyms are all closed, so are restaurants and pretty much everything besides supermarkets, pharmacies and gas stations.

In South Africa, almost 2500 arrested so far for breaking lockdown rules.

From most reports if you make it past 7-10 days after initial symptoms without needing hospitalization then you should be fine.
Here is a breathing technique to help you with your recovery.

Thanks bro. I've been doing this CO2 style breathing for awhile now - I think it's the only thing that's been helping. I'm under no illusions that there are many people worse off than me - just sucks being so oxygen deprived you're too dizzy to even stand sometimes. It's a 'two steps forward one step back' situation for me. Getting better - just very slowly.

Germany
Rules:
Avoid contact to other persons, family of the household is ok
In public hold a distance of 2 meters to other people
In public rooms only two persons
Stay at home order, only going out for important things like work (with permission), buying food and doctor visits.
(Doctors not possible. They wont look in your throat. They give you a number from the health office. When showing symptoms and youre lucky they test you after a long latency time. Can take weeks).
You can go out for sports (alone) and walking the dog
Meetings in public with more than 2 people and meetings or parties in apartements are forbidden
Catering industy and service providers closed
Deliveries are ok
Violations of the rules = 500 -25 000 Euros fine / prison sentence up to 5 years
I go out with my family and dog.
I go to work.
I wear no mask, gloves.
I dont use any disinfection solution.
I feel fine and dont think that this is a reason to shut down the world.
Two years ago overhere was the flu with 25 000 dead people and no one gave a shit about it.
Right now 1234 dead people. Most of them very old. They had also pre-existing illnesses.
Imho this looks like a joke. A reason to shut down, get people under arrest, flood the country with migrants, get rid of the cash money,
pull up a forced vaccination and at least a chip under your skin.
Im not afraid of corona, never been.
A problem for me is the forced vaccination thats coming, to find a way to avoid it.
Thats just a short report from Bavaria, Germany.

Was living in Brixton/Kennington area of London and bailed before it really kicked off. Spent the last two weeks self-isolating and working from home in a rural part of the midlands. When I left most people were following the gov's advice and helping each other out (the estate had two community groups set up etc), but could see it all going south once the weather warms up and the local drill group/gang no longer had drugs to sell.
Pretty certain I had it beginning of Feb - fever, aching kidneys/eyes/testicles/limbs, dry cough, trouble breathing. My cardio hasn't returned to what it was. I work in Soho right next to China town and one of my work colleagues came back from Vietnam in a shit-state.
I'm sure my taste went for a while, but that happens with most colds.

I am in Los Angeles, actually in the San Fernando Valley 20 miles north of LAX.
Lockdown with essential business open for three weeks now - people are mostly calm out here. I work in the nutrition industry, we are open (not to the public), and we deliver to businesses that need supplies (protein bars, vitamins, especially Zinc and Vitamin C and many others, water, protein drinks, protein powder. That be it, business is down over 50% because all the gyms and stores in the offices are closed. Also, gas station stores are down 70% in business too, as well as others. We do deliver to other stores.
No parks or hiking trails are open. Nothing is open other than stores to buy food, restaurants for pickup, etc. Pretty much everywhere has put up 'social distancing' signs, stores have adapted with Plexiglass between the cash registers , but there are lines to get into the stores (but only because they limit how many people in the store), not because they are really busy.
Only items hard to get right now is toilet paper, hand sanitizers, masks, paper towels, cleaning supplies like Wipes. Yes, each store is out of their own items, but the other store usually will have it. Soon though, a lot of these items are coming in stock, even we are starting to sell hand sanitizers due to demand.
Schools are out, tough for the kids, trying to be good, although being home all day (we have a backyard) is not easy after three weeks.
We do use Zoom, or Google Hangouts to see and talk with family and friends, and a lot more on the phone talking, etc.
Watching more television, etc, but we have dogs so we due take a mile+ walk each day, etc to get some exercise

They pulled me over yesterday hassling me out cause I was just driving around, I put my window down 1cm.
If they hassle you out ask for their details and tell them you are going to make a complaint for harassment, bad behaviour etc, watch them change their tune. Complains made against them give them a lot of trouble.
Idk mate, there's a different vibe at the checkpoint. Every traffic stop I've had here for the last 20 years has gone just fine (pun intend). But at the roadblock they've been immediately shitty from go when I address them through a rolled up window. I imagine they get a lot of people being dicks about it so even though I'm very polite throughout, their mind was already made up when they first saw the window up.
The vibe is severe. I don't think it would be wise to talk about making complaints while at the checkpoint. Two worst incidents so far were:
A woman insisting I roll down "becasue we wanna talk to ya" and her charcoal 85 IQ trained monkey bellowing U MUS RALL EET DON!! U MUS RALL EET DON! And I mean bellowing like someone about to skin his pistol. It was tense, and way too quick. It followed me asking one time if I can leave it up in response to her telling me to roll down. One question from me and I was getting shouted at. Anyway, I said "Ok, one moment please." Put on my mask and rolled it down. My mask was the only one anyone had on. She had a paper one in her hand. It never went on her face.
Second was an old boy who told me to roll down, and while I'm asking the usual "Is it ok if..." he just reached on over and tugged on the door handle. Which was locked because, I figured, given the attitudes I'm seeing, someone is going to do that. He did. If I hadn't had the foresight to lock it we would have been in a tug of war over the door, most likely involving shouting and other officers running over with weapons drawn. It would have gone from 0 to 100 in a split second. It occurs to me that when there's physical conflict you are going to be seen to be a problem while a cop will be automatically in the right. He knows this. The dude was salty and looking to precipitate a conflict. "Next fucker I see with his window up, I'm gonna fix his wagon." Bet he did that day too. Just glad it wasn't me.
After the last one I did consider writing in a complaint but qui bono, you know? Not me. If there's a culture of precipitating conflict at the roadblock then there's almost certainly a "screw this asshole" culture down at the complaints office. I think all I would accomplish would be to get my name added to a list I don't want to be on. There's no Oversight Justice Angel lurking up the chain of command. Just people who didn't witness what happened, are sick of complainers, dislike you, and now they have all your details. Complaining to the police about the police doesn't seem like the move.
This morning I they detained me for about 15 minutes while they ran checks. Early Sun morn, no queue, so hey why not. At least no one acted like they were looking for an opportunity to finally use their weapon.
6 months of this shit tho? I dunno, bro.

1 in 5 adult South Africans are HIV positive.
Curious what effect the virus will have on such people.

Northern England here, Still can go to work until materials run out then fucked as all builders merchants closed luckily anticipated this and got stocked up on current job. Pleased to still be earning. Lots of takeaways shut which is fucking annoying. Big ques at shops but I don’t care that’s the woman’s problem I never go shopping. Otherwise life isn’t much different at minute, if lockdown continues into warmer weather And can’t take kids and dog to beach that will be shit as favourite thing to do in summer. Hope this shit over soon
