Does anyone think he’ll do it? Watched a video of Eddie Hall backstage after his attempt - BP over 200 - he thought he was going to die. Hall will be dead in a few years.
J
-
I think he'll do 501, not 520. He did 470 pretty easy a few weeks ago.
-
he already pulled 501 in his gym, he wouldn't go on live stream with million+ people watching him fail that lift, ain't gonna pull the 520 thought

420 pissed it
-
420 pissed it
Like standing up with a baby in his arms. They said he weighed in at 205kg. Fuckin scary huge
-
Well that came up quite easily
-
Definately
-
New world record!!
-
Eddie Hall on suicide watch
-
I don't think 520kg is going to happen today. that's a big jump.

-
520 won't come today, maybe 510.
-
looks like hes done for the day
-
Would be smarter to save it for another day, make it another show
-
So now he is going to box :-\
-
Yes he is brutally strong and huge beyond belief. One hundred percent legitimate strongman.
That shit ain't no kind of World Record.
-He's wearing straps- that changes everything.
-The bar is slightly elevated. WTF?
-What the fuck is he wearing? No recognized federation allows you to wear whatever you want and not wear shoes.
-World records require a full power meet. Where was his squat? Where was his bench press?
-No clock making sure he makes his attempts in the right time frame and sequence.
He's galatically strong. Huge huge huge. But that shit ain't no kind of World Record.
-
That went up smoothly.
WR or PR? hmmm.
Definitely home gym advantage.
-

It's a strongman world record
Straps are allowed
He's wearing a suit, same as Eddie Hall who's record he beat. Can't answer about the shoes, I noticed that too.
It's not powerlifting, no squat or bench.
He was being timed between pulls.
While it will go in the strongman books as a world record, I think he'll need to pull it in a competition for it to be considered legit.
They said he weighed in at 205kg, about 450lbs. Absolutely insane bodyweight and strength.
-

Fucken exactly. Straps are bullshit. Part of the deadlift is grip strength, between straps and Inzer singlets! They are getting another 300 labs.
J
-
Yes he needs to do it again without being barefoot!
-
-The bar is slightly elevated. WTF?
Must be your eyes that are slightly elevated?
-
He's the strongest being alive at the moment.
-
It`s a strongman world record, not a powerlifting world record. Truth be told, no powerlifter comes close to his strength...

You seem to be a bit confused friend. This is a Strongman record, not PowerLifting.
He pulled on calibrated plates, which they even individually weighed out on video before he started. Used the same type of bar and equipment as the previous Strongman record was done and had the most respectable head judge in their sport calling the lift. Not to mention it was smooth and without controversy given their rules.
This is about as legit a lift as there is.
-
i'm more impressed with this. 1947

Well to Chaos's original point why was Eddie Halls record in a meet and this one was not?
And to Toms point great lift no question, but this wasn't a strongman contest it was one person doing one event.
-
Trouble with strongman is they need a governing body to say if this was a record or not. Hopefully one will come out of this.

J
JAGO, how much you think he could deadlift without the straps?

Because of the virus shutting down all the available venues. He originally planned on pulling it in competition. This was streamed on ESPN and sponsored by Rogue. It was professional and well run. Not just some schmuck lifting in his basement
-
i saw this old dude do triple body weight for 21 reps when he was in his 60's.

almost exactly my complaints. crazy power, but a modified deadlift at best

didn't that guys son use to be on Getbig?
i sent him a magazine with an article on this guy/his dad
-
I don't care what this is called, a record or not, but thus was just insane.
-
Not mad at it at all. Eddie is the better showman, but I think Hafthor will pan out to be the better deadlifter.
-
JAGO, how much you think he could deadlift without the straps?
How the fuck would I know.

This. I feel for Thor but for the world to consider it an official record, he'll have to do it in a comp. The WUS can call it a record all they want, it's their organization, just like some PLing orgs allow half squats and soft lockouts, some don't, their org, their rules.
Anything you want to call it, you can't say that it's not impressive.
-
I doubt even but a few Getbiggers can pull that off!
-
How the fuck would I know.
J
478 pounds?
-
Bar was lifted on a rogue platform and no, it was not elevated. Don`t really see the difference between being barefoot and using ballerina slippers like Bolton did. It is 501 kg done with a suit and straps, no more, no less.
At worse you can call it exhibition lift but done with official rules for the given sport.
Eddies record was lifted in strongman deadlift only competition and everything set for him by the organizers.

It was called Thor’s Gym!! It might as well been his basement...
It was a great and it’s always good to see Magnus Ver Magnus.
-
How the fuck would I know.
J
So what does that work out to in kilos?
-
i'm more impressed with this. 1947
I've read about Peoples' rounded-back deadlift form but somehow I've never seen pics. No way in hell that's a completed lift, he's a shrug away from finishing the lift.
Great lift by Thor. How so many people don't realise why he's done it under those conditions (same for the rest of these World's Ultimate Strongman events) is beyond me.
-
Bar elevated? Wut?
Those plates were on the same floor he was standing on.
-
Unimpressed. Equivalent of a 200lb man deadlifting 600 of which there are many. If he pulls 1300 i will be impressed. He fucken weighs 450 get real.
-

Hall is already retired and off the gas hard. He's only 32 yes old he's not dying in a few years

Home gym lift.... Not in comp, not legit.

Maybe you failed to notice the calibrated weights weighed out live on stream or missed out on the part where he picked up the weight and locked it out easily
-
Good strong lift - he made it look a comfortable lift- 501kg !!! Damn
Doesn’t look very healthy in the Face at all.
It’d be interesting to see what he would pull in a sanctioned powerlifting meet.
-

Bells palsy or nerve damage, guy looks a mess to be honest
-
I agree in order for a lift to be legit a skin doctor needs to check the athlete afterwards to see that his skin is alright
Very important
-
Bells palsy or nerve damage, guy looks a mess to be honest
Yes he had the Bell’s palsy 2/3 year back never quite recovered- and with the extra weight & Bloat in the face it’s not a good look at all. I’d think he’ll lower his weight & dosages now for awhile.
-
Thor is clearly the better deadlifter but this isn't an official record and it would set a bad precedent to label it as such.
-
Half = thor
Half the strength of Thor
That means Thor have a 1002kg Deadlift
-
Bells palsy or nerve damage, guy looks a mess to be honest
Lol, coming from a dorky granny face.

After the lift he said "I'm healthy also"... which I took to mean the opposite, that he's been thinking about his health. This prep put him in the danger zone and now he's hoping a little time off will get him in a healthier zone quickly.

Stab at Eddie..

Better than who? Eddie ?
Eddie has the better lift his 500 was way ahead, it took Thor and everybody else in the world 4 years to beat it by one kilo....
No one remembers the second guy that broke the 4minute mile.

Who was the first guy to break the 200k world record?
-
This is equivalent to Andre the Giant picking up and body slamming a midget
-
Nobody remembers the Getbigger who was first to post 500 times
-
I didn't mention calibration or any other shit you dumb fuck... I said not in competition then not legit....
Rogue bar, calibrated plates, Magnus at the head chair. Locked out, set down properly. This lift is as good as any other ever lifted in Strongman. Get over it Nancy.
-
There's something odd about Hall... maybe his "sunshine" persona and oversized lard drum he calls a body.
May Thor destroy him.
-

He always takes time off and shrinks down, I think this is the biggest he's ever been.
-
Crazy... and congratulations...
Strongman Fans Can't Fathom How the Hell Hafthor Björnsson Deadlifted 1,104 Pounds
Hafthor Björnsson, also known as Thor or The Mountain or that incredibly strong man from Game of Thrones, just broke the world record for deadlifting more than any human in history. The strongman and actor was able to deadlift 501 kilograms, or an astonishing 1,104 pounds. The lift was two pounds more than the previous world record, which was set by Björnsson’s rival Eddie Hall in 2016.
Thor’s warm up was a casual 925 pounds deadlift followed by a 1,025 deadlift. On his third attempt, Björnsson went for the goal of 1,104 pounds. Commentators pointed out Thor never picked up that much weight before, even when training. But with little struggle, Thor was able to deadlift the half-ton weight.

In his response video it looked like he was really bothered and pissed about Thor making the lift and then the talk about the boxing match Lol. Of course these rivalries could all be fake, I don't know, but Eddie looked bothered for real :D
I think Eddie has "issues", probably ADHD, depression, anxiety, maybe some antisocial traits too. To some this is endearing and others dislike him. Eddie has called Thor a bully for his behavior at comps and apparently Thor has called Eddie a cheat. I haven't followed the scene closely so I don't know who did what but these guys have gathered quite an army of haters and fans. :D

Almost 11K comments. That's nuts for this scene. No bodybuilder or powerlifter gets this type of response. If it's good or bad I don't know and don't care much. But many of the comments are really ridiculous like the screenshot I posted earlier.

how longs Kais video, 17 hours?
-
What’s the big deal?
Most Getbiggers rep out with 500 kgs.
Just ask them.

I bet he got a world record of the biggest dumps too!
