Well... Do you think the gym is the playing field for COVID-19 to spread and thrive? Or do you think we can social distance and stay safe with stringent cleaning and capacity control.
-
Would go to it before, after AND during! open, closed AND mid-close!
-
Personally, I just don't think I'd feel comfortable doing so... I get people aren't necessarily on top of each other breathing in each other's faces, etc... But you're touching all these machines, potentially touching your face and stuff, it's not the most hygenic environment in general
Plus, having kids and a wife at home, would make me feel even more guilty if I were to catch something.
Maybe that's an overreaction, but things are so unceetain right now overall.
-
Would not train at the gyms. Even if there was no pandemic outbreak...
-
The best answer I can give is maybe. If it was close by, I'd stop in and see how people are actually handling it before I made the commitment to actually go back.
-
Would train with IronMeister in his garage / jacuzzi / bedroom (No Homer)
-
Everyone will be required to wear masks when entering the gym when they re-open.

It will be impossible to train wearing a mask, especially in warm weather.

Yes, I agree, but those are the regulations where I stay.
It's not practical, I think people could pass out.
-
I would except I have to protect my wife's health so not yet probably
-
I’d be there the minute they open. This has been far over blown and sheltering in place does nothing to help our immune systems. If you’re healthy with no underlying health issues wtf are you afraid of?

I see someone has been gobbling up his programming. Excellent work slave, you may now go for a short walk to get your essential exercise.
Dont forget your face mask!
....i am trying ever so hard to be as polite as possible here. But really I have to ask- are you trolling? Please tell me you are.
-
No I am building my own gym.
Thats how serious I am about training! You cant let other people dictate the amount of muscle mass you pack on! Thats no way to go through life!
-
I was going to the gym right up until they closed.
So, yes, I’d go. If COVID19 is going to be around for a while, it’s inevitable we are all going to get it.

Did you ever stress on the flu when at the gym? It's business as normal in the non hysterical world, wash your hands, wipe down machines, don't touch your face.... No drama.
-
Nope

Not true, for example just because you got the AIDS doesnt mean everybody else did, thats just something you keep telling yourself to feel better!
-
No, not until I know more bout this Covoid which we are being lied to about currently.
-
Gyms in my area reopen this Saturday at 8:00 am. I will be there Saturday at 8:00.

What are you training on Saturday?
-
Of course I would. I wipe off all the equipment before using it anyways - have done that for years.
Covid doesn't form an aerosol so it won't be spread in significant doses just by breathing the air in the building...
-
What are you training on Saturday?
Back and shoulders. Last gym workout was March 18.
-
Found a gym in the Bay area that is open. Going on Saturday

SF doesn't have "the AIDS". Autozone tests all the workers weekly for sexual diseases and if you fail you are out. Everybody knows that. That is why I am not afraid to hold a solenoid in my bare hands after buying it there.

If the plan was for the U.S. to become a nation of hypochondriac's, than it's starting to work. That would include germ phobia, the underlining terror of that "G" word and anything related to it.
With a normal person, in reasonable good health, the abilities to strengthen the immune system can be greatly heighten, even before all the virus panic, in a average public gym setting. That gym you love may also be a potential cesspool of germs (microbes), but your body have put into affect those wonderful abilities to adjust and to reinforce the bodies immune defenses.
So might suggest, that if returning back to your gym after all this overblown virus panic, you are not dead withing the first 30 minutes after, than enjoy your workout and the many more to follow. Covid-19 is not the Black Death of the middle ages, it's a milder form of the yearly seasonal flu.

Yes it's an overreaction, lol. Your kids have a better immune system than you. Statistics just out of Connecticut shows no one under the age of 29 is adversely affected by Covid. Nobody.
-
It depends on your location. If I was in NYC I wouldn’t. Where I live it’s not bad so I probably would.
-
During normal times my gym is overcrowded; on a typical evening they could easily have 200-300 people in the building. I would not attend. If they limited capacity to 10 or 20% and restricted you to 60-90 minutes so more people could rotate thru I would go... and would be willing to take a number and wait for entry.
-
Not sure. Maintaining quite well right now. 1000 push ups a week and lots more. Workout M,T,Thur and Friday for an 1.5 hours. Chest actually looks better with just push ups then it did doing bb presses for 30 yrs.

yes, gyms reopening monday in switzerland :D
-
Much as I miss doing my workouts at the gym, I will have to give going back quite a bit of thought before deciding if I want to risk the exposure. The gym I was going to right before the shut down is privately owned. The owners and staff were doing everything feasible to keep it sanitized and to facilitate maintaining social distancing. However, there was and is always the chance of exposure whenever you go anywhere right now.
-
I train at home so purely hypothetical, if I lived alone I’d go but having kids in house I’d prefer not to take risk. It’s one thing to not give a shit about yourself but very wrong to potentially infect others for own selfish needs
-

Exactly. If I lived alone, I am sure I'd be more willing to risk it. It is a decision each of us will have to make for ourselves regardless of what is suggested by those who are supposedly the experts.
-
I live alone. Plan to get to the gym just when it opens, and out quickly.

Just like how some are gay and think everyone is gay

Here's a message from the folks at the gym where I workout:

Once health clubs are allowed to reopen, you have our solemn promise that we will maintain the highest level of cleanliness and sanitation in our clubs to ensure that you stay healthy while working on your fitness goals.
We are using this downtime to deep clean both of our clubs (YOUR clubs) and have recently acquired the services of the 5 Star rated Northwest Cleaning Solutions Co. who will be cleaning and sanitizing all touchable surfaces on a nightly basis. We understand the importance of maintaining the highest level of cleanliness in our clubs to ensure that our patrons stay healthy.
As a small family- owned business, we will need your trust and support to to get “back to business” as quickly as possible! You can count on us and depend on our commitment to you and our community as we weather the challenges of this unprecedented crises. We can’t wait to see you all again!
Yours in good health,
The Owners and Staff of NPOC

My local Home Depot limits the number of shoppers in the building at the same time. People wait in line to go inside (line moves pretty quickly) and wear masks. The gym should open but they need to dramatically limit the number of members in the building at the same time to a fraction of the norm... and keep lots of sanitizer and disinfectant throughout both floors. Even 20-40 people at a time would make it ok to reopen. I think most members would understand and appreciate the measure. I would go.
-
Just wear a condom to be safe.
-
ACH how did you break your foot? Healing going in a positive direction?

What about wearing masks in the gym?
-
What about wearing masks in the gym?
If you severely limit the number of patrons to, say, 20-40 people at a time I’d probably be willing to forgo the mask. But this would depend on the size of your gym and its capacity. In some gyms 40 people might be a lot... at others it would be a small number. Again you’d need a lot of sanitizer, wipes, and disinfectant spread around to make people feel comfortable with being there.
-
I wore a mask and I still got the VID!! :'( :'(

Unfortunately where I am it will be a requirement to wear a mask in any public place including the gym.
-
I'll be there the second they reopen. Will be adding a tablespoon of lysol to my preworkout shake.

I wore a mask and I still got the VID!! :'( :'(
On the bright side look at tbombz. He wore a condom and still got aids. Then gets a lot of GH from it
-
I wore a mask and I still got the VID!! :'( :'(
That’s because wearing masks is horseshit for the general population. In medical environments masks are used just once and often for less than 15 min or so. Covid is spread by physical contact and you need repeated exposures. An in-depth study at a medical institute in Singapore thoroughly studied modes of Covid infection, right down to the soles of their shoes.
It’s spread by people either touching each other or immediately touching a surface right after a covid carrier touched it.
Masks as worn by the general public are useless. They just make people feel like they are protected. Kind of like a cheap condom lol
-
ACH how did you break your foot? Healing going in a positive direction?
Hey man thanks for checking up on me...
Stress fracture from running that turned into a trauma break when I jumped away from a breaking glass cup and landed on it wrong.
It's specifically called a Jones fracture and they have a tendency to be very slow healing... So I'm babying it, absolutely not putting any weight on it and I'm going in for my two and a half week follow up and x-ray tomorrow.
On the plus side I'm still training everyday (upper body) and doing ok for the most part keeping the diet tight, with a few days lax here and there.
-
I wore a mask and I still got the VID!! :'( :'(
From what little I understand, wearing a mask does more to protect others than it does to protect oneself. Also, it really depends on the mask. This one, for example, would be a bad choice.

Like I asked, who caused the infection, the pretty girl who bump into you, or the dirty social media phone you didn't clean?
24 hour fitness should have been opened 2 weeks ago.
Social distancing just protects you from potential aerosols, not poor hygiene when get home.
-
Oh no!! I am much too scared. I am horrified. I am scared shitless.
Fucking retarded fucking question.
-
We're legally obligated to wear face masks over here whenever we're in an enclosed space. I'm not sure how comfortable that'd be after a while.
I dunno - I'd like to start back. I haven't been since the beginning of March. I've been using TRX bands at home. I'm actually surprised at how much I've been able to maintain. Turning into a fat bastard though - that might be a reason!
-

Thought it was unprotected?!? ??? ???

After a while, wearing the mask seemed impractical but I kept doing it because most stores required it.

Same.
I wonder how many people will hyperventilate and collapse.
As I've mentioned before, people that wore those masks as in the 'Creed' movie have had collapsed lungs from using them weight training.

Where??? I live in san jose. Willing to commute!
-
Without a moment’s thought, yes.
I was lifting right up to the day before they were required to close.
Been working straight through this “pandemic” (oh brother) and couldn’t give less of a shit about it all. If I haven’t already been exposed to it, and I’m quite certain it would have been impossible NOT to have been in my line of work, I’d risk it in a heartbeat.
The chances of becoming seriously ill, or dying, are rather slim. And if I do, well, there ya go. Still wouldn’t change my tune.
Any given flu season presents me more threat than this Cornhole nonsense.
Open the fucking gyms.

We all going to Die - No not that I particularly want to it just Fact some young some older.
I’m not liking being locked up / lied to / & dictated to. (I’m in U.K.)
This has al been a test run by certain people Frighten/ scare people lock them up & tell them what they can & cannot do or go, For our own Good 🙄🙄 And it’s worked very well.
What will Be Happening next a Big Recession/ Monetary Rest?? I don’t know,

-
I will definitely go back
I was there the night they shut it down

I’ve been fortunate. I’ve only had 3 weeks of down time, been back in the gym consistently for going on my 4th week. Open or not, still training
-
Did you purchase that mask??
I'm wearing it at this very moment....in fact, I never take it off. ;D ;D ;D
-
One good thing that will come from this is a permanent change in gym etiquite. Before this, it was already a crisis of people in gyms leaving their sweat on machines, coughing and being sick in the gym, no towel to wipe own anything, not reracking weights, and the fitness industry had been discussing the problem for decades.
Now people other than alpha bodybuilders will say "Wipe your fucking machine down, and rerack your weights, I don't want to touch either." Hopefully this becomes a normal part of gym culture now.

Up until I broke my foot I was actually having phenomenal work outs at home plus keeping the diet super tight.... Been on lockdown since March 13.
Bought resistance bands, then more heavy duty resistance bands, dumbbells up to 90 lbs and a bench. It was great.
Still training upper body now but it's not the same.
Now debating if I should outfit the garage with real gym equipment.
-
Nope
I respect this. One of the strongest guys here that went through hell with the virus states no.
-
Nope
Are you all fully recovered now & back to everyday life.
How long did it last with you?
Hope you are all good now.

Agreed. After this, I think more people will be buying home gym equipment. I was caught flat-footed when my gym closed, but I was able to buy a bench and some dumbbells before the rush started and prices took off. I'm limited to what I can do at home, but it's better than nothing.
-
I will miss the cheaper gym prices, but I preferred it a decade plus back when local gyms were priced at £50 a month and not as packed. Look forward to returning to those days.
Also these dumbbells have proven to be money well spent. You don't need anything other than these and a chin up bar during lockdown.

Bump for bigmikecox and usmuscl to give some 411 on where we can work out

I’m gonna say prob had it 3-4 weeks,I was feeling pretty good up until yesterday(worked a 12 hour day and got home and felt horrible) when I started to feel like I did in the midst of it.Little better today but some anxiety thinking it never left me. But yeah I’ve been good for a few weeks now.
Still have no interest in going to a gym though.Ive got a flat utility bench with dumbbells 25,30,35,45,60,80 and 100s so I’m good.i was training in my buddys basement prior to this and he has lots of equipment and was going to gym 1-2 times a month to mix it up but I prob won’t enter another gym for a few months even if they open soon cause everyone and their mother will be rushing to gyms I imagine.

O'fallon Missouri. Had my second workout this morning!! Five gyms in my area open, more opening next week.

People flocking to the gym may not be the case. I suspect many people will be reluctant to engage in activities which could possibly expose them to other folk's germs. As much as there are a lot of people pushing to reopen and begin economic recovery, there are also many who will be quite cautious in this. My guess the recovery is going to take some time. We may never return to the way things were prior to COVID-19.

Are cities with smaller populations in Missouri, like O'fallon more or less likely to open up sooner rather than later? Counties in Oregon must meet certain criteria before they can begin the process of opening back up. Smaller cities and counties are more likely to be able to do this. At least, this is the current thinking.
-
Gyms need better advocacy groups so they can be necessary and open businesses like pot dispensaries. :D
...at least like dispensaries on the west coast and a few other areas.

Ofallon is in St Charles county (population ~400,000) that has eased restrictions. We border St. Louis and St Louis county that have not eased restrictions. Less incidence of Covid-19 in St Charles county than the city.

Glad to hear that you’re pretty much over it. The 12hr shift does hit home hard, that I know as I’ve been doing some recently & some night waking shifts, it catches me & feel real lifeless/ tired.
Hopefully some good food / rest / sleep you’ll be back firing on all cylinders.
Not so good to hear you’ve little interest in going to gym / lifting - I’m chomping at the bit & struggling now not going. - it’s not doing my mental state much good either.
👍🏻
-
I would hold off a few weeks.
I can maintain plenty with my KBs. They were however given to me by a friend who owns a gym so once "lockdown" is over here in the UK he may require them back pretty quickly. There is no sign of the gyms opening in the UK anytime soon anyway! When they do, I would go at 7am. The gym opens at 6am but 7am is always quieter as a few train 6-7am then head on home/to work.

Wish I had bought those Bowflex dumbbells years ago. They are sold out everywhere and selling for over $1000 used. Is yours the 90 lbs model or the lighter version? How durable are they? Can they be dropped fully loaded like normal dumbbells? Do you have the stand and if so is it steady?
I'll be getting these for sure but who knows when you'll be able to get them again at normal prices. I have not worked out for 2 months now but do walk for exercise. Physically I weight the same and can't really notice any atrophy yet. However I am sure that will change if I don't start lifting again soon. I'll be building a quality home gym as soon as possible.

I prefer to work out anywhere from 11 pm - 5 am and usually have the gyms all to myself. Occasionally I'll go during peak hours but probably won't again for the foreseeable future.

We may never return to the way things were prior to COVID-19.
Spoken like a true flame-broiled phaggot.
The only thing not returning to the way it once was is your blown-out O ring.

👍🏻
I’m loving lifting at home that’s why no interest to go to gym when they open back up.I get more out of home workouts cause no ego and I just lift and feel the muscles.

For me it's about getting out of the house and enjoying the eye candy.

I'd be happy just getting out of the house and going somewhere besides the grocery store.

The bowflex dumbells suck. The ring you rotate to select however many pounds (lol) is the first to go and not necessarily only because you drop it.

Wow man that must be nice. Owning a home gym and all while the less fortunate sit at home and suffer. You should build a juice bar to go with it so you can hit on fitness chicks while you muster the strengrh to post on getbig.

90lbs. Can't drop them, but at that weight you shouldn't really need to. No stand, but I have a small cheap ass reinforced wooden coffee table with a rubber mat on it which I use and that's been working great.
I do wish I had added some fixed regular heavy dumbbells. High reps for chest can get boring as fuck.

Ahh ok - That’s great - apols I didn’t realise you have a home gym set up.
Good you’re Training 👍🏻
